  1. Thanks for the responses, the National sounds like fun, but we'll be on a flight back home. Undoubtedly I'll visit a shop or two... after visiting family working in London, taking in the sights and maybe even relaxing a bit I am sure I wont have as much time as I'd like. Regards, Wardo
  2. We'll be staying in the village of Coombe, about 15 miles south of Gloucster. Wardo
  3. Hello all, I am a Yank living in New England, Vermont to be specific. My family and I have arranged a home exchange with a family in the Cotswolds area for two weeks in late August. Are there any events occuring down that way on the weekend of August 20th-21st? Any great trials shops to visit? Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, Wardo For some reason the forum software makes the B in GB lower case despite my efforts to have both be upper case, sorry!
  4. IKB, Excellent description, the idea had crossed my mind but I figured I should ask first. I'll fabricate something tomorrow and change the spring. The one challenge is going to be getting the plastic far enough down. The spring is pretty stiff so it looks like I'll actually need to enlist some help. Thanks, Wardo
  5. Hello, When I bought my bike used the seller commented that he had put one stiffer spring in, and gave me the stocker. After riding the bike a bit I've decided I need to put the stocker back in. After pulling the caps and mic'ing the springs it looks like the right one needs to be swapped. What is the easiest way to remove the spring from the cartridge rod? There seems to be too much preload to push it down and get a wrench on the rod holder... so do I remove the whole cartridge from the bottom? The gasgas.com shop and parts manuals don't seem to be working. It would be nice to have an exploded view. What do other people do? Thanks, Wardo
  6. Actually I am keeping the Sherco, the Sherco was my first modern trials bike, and as reliable as a wedge. I got a reasonable deal on the Gasser, so figured I'd try something different. If the bike is as good as it feels, and is reasonably reliable then I'll be glad I made the trade. Only time will tell. Regards, Wardo
  7. The snow has finally abated enough here in Vermont for the south facing ledge near my house to be rideable. I rode an '04 Sherco 2.9 last season, but picked up a nearly new '03 300 Pro from someone. After riding them back to back on my sections I am very impressed with the 300. I am sure the Sherco is great for some people, but after riding them back-to-back I was amazed how much better the Gas Gas worked for me. On a bike that I had never ridden before, I was able to ride everything I could clean on my Sherco. The suspension seems substantially better, I can balance on it better at a standstill and while moving, and it seems to turn tighter. I don't know why it rides so much better for me, but I am happy! I look forward to expanding my horizons on this bike. Now for a question: While crawling in first gear on flat ground with virtually no throttle, the engine seems to knock. If I slip the clutch, as I usually do and keep the revs up it doesn't happen. The bike has the stock gearing and jetting. Any thoughts? Thanks, Wardo
  8. Hello All, I just bought a very nice, low hour (20 or less hours)'03 300 Pro that is box stock except stiffer fork springs and fat bars. I've been riding a '04 Sherco 2.9 that I enjoyed very much, but when I decided to get a second bike I had to try a Gas Gas. From the moment I got on it the bike felt very comfortable... light but planted with easy predictable turning. Unfortunately, all the ledge at my house is covered with 12" of snow, so my impressions are limited to doing figure eights on an iced covered driveway. So far I've looked at the various threads to check on oil etc.... Having reviewed past posts, I want to make sure I didn't miss anything. What setup things should I check? I live at 1300', and ride in all temperatures, what jetting is recommended? Does the carb boot need a mod? Are there any other mods I should know about? Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, Wardo
  9. The wire wheel is probably a good suggestion, although a dose of double dog turds did the trick. We'll see how they hold up. As an aside, I love changing tires on my trials bike! For enduros and desert racing the stiff sidewalls, double rim locks (XR 650R) and extra HD tubes make it more of an ordeal. Without all that I can change a tire as quick as the ISDT guys.... Ward
  10. I think I went wrong by not cleaning the inside well enough, what thinners do you use T-shock? I put a plug in it today, we'll see how that works... I've got my doubts as it is right on the junction of the tread and sidewall, certainly a high stress area. I'll just keep at it.... So far none of you have offered an opinion on the sidewall rigidity breaking down while riding my last twelve sections... my enduro experience would tell me there is definitely damage, but I'd love to hear from more experienced trials folk. Should I be able to feel a difference? I think I do. Thanks for all the input! Wardo
  11. Hello All, Last weekend I got a 1/4" pinch flat slit in my Michelin tire, right where the tread meets the sidewall between two knobs. It happened with 12 sections to go so I just rode it out, the bead never popped off and the rim was undamaged (but my score was abysmal!). Having never repaired a tubeless tire before, I just placed a patch on the inside of the tire per the instructions. Initially it held air, but within a couple of sections of practice it was leaking bad again. How can I permanently repair a slit like this? Can I pull off the old patch and put on a new one? Also, the sidewall feels flexier, did it break down while I was riding it flat? Thanks for the help. Regards, Ward
  12. Charlie, Thanks for the direction, here is a link to the exact page: http://www.gasgas.com/Pages/Technical/tria...nsion-tips.html . I didn't mean to imply that I didn't trust Ryan's input, but rather I was looking for alternatives that I could consider. Ryan's experience and success speaks for itself, I just like to try different things out and want guidance in which way my testing should go. Thanks, Wardo
  13. First, I don't want to hijack the discussion, but it has raised some questions on my own bikes setup. Although I know how to setup an MX or Enduro bike I am somewhat clueless about where to begin on my Sherco 2.9. I spoke to Ryan Young and he said he doesn't mess with sag, etc. At 170lbs, the stock springs seem to be close, what about sag? What other things should I consider? Are there baseline settings that those in the know use? Thanks in advance for any help. Regards, Wardo
