  1. I really like the Dellorto on my 2011 250,smooth and clean running. Easiest thing to try is dropping the needle/raising the clip 1 notch,if still not smooth go with one step leaner carb slide but put the needle back when you do.

I put a 2014 header and muffler on,my silencer was to saturated too clean out,big difference in performance.

  2. Do IRC have exceptionable traction when still seated on the rim? Reason I ask is one of my Vintage bikes has the Nuetech Tubliss system that secures the bead in place, would a IRC then be worth a go?

  3. Ryan sells Maxima MTL 75wt for Sherco trans, use that and you'll be using what they recommend, may take several changes to get the full effect.

Starting procedure I use is to put the bike in 3rd or 4th gear, choke on,clutch lever in,rock the bike forward and back until clutch breaks

free, select neutral, start it up.Won't run away when you stick it in gear then.

That is a awesome sweet bike! Find trials riders to ride with!

Recommend some bar ends, that way when you drop it on the throttle side it won't lie there screaming it's brains out.

  4. This may be controversial but I say all twin shock, drum brake, air cooled, cable clutch bikes should ride together,

let skill levels be the class determiners.Eases tech inspection, economizes on awards. If you're dead set on scoring yourself some

hardware ride the best, newest bike you can afford and tune it to the Nth degree. If you want to have fun just

ride what you want, and don't worry about Tchotchkes to hang on your wall or set on the mantle.

If you are at a big Trialspalooza then all perversions should be accommodated(3spd,amal or villiers carb,

steel fork slider, rigid or plunger rear end with a solo saddle that has coil springs no longer

than 2&1/2 inches trophies to 3 places type of puffery)

It's the USA,not UK,we are happy to have 15 riders at a vintage event,no need for ten classes!

I was the only entrant in the Vintage class yesterday...

Thanks for putting on this event! I wish I was attending, but just far enough that I will pass on it

this time,I will say the Vintage trials ALMOST swayed me to go but I'm going to be short on

vacation time after our upcoming national.

I put on a 1&1/2 line, single class event last year, was a blast(Expert riders had to pick up an extra

split in almost every section) everyone scored together (-:

(easy for me to take this stand,my Vintage bikes are a 83 Fantic 240 and a 84 SWM 320TL...)

(1971 is "PreHistoric" in USA trials!)

  5. What Are your plans for the Airbox and Exhaust? On *HWMNBM's sight I think it advises against using 240 components with a 30x reed valve engines, don't know about piston port 300s though.

BTW,Oko that was on my 240 works even better on my 309 without any rejetting, haven't really ridden it on the main jet enough to truly evaluate,309 is gonna get a makeover moderately soon.

  6. The looping out of the sections and or not adhereing to the imaginary line between markers is my pet hate... that is something the Frenchies love doing and see little wrong in it...

I know it takes more time to layout, but cannot you ribbon or tape the sections to keep riders "in bounds"? removes judgement calls and eliminates conflict between checker and rider.

If the sections are too big or long maybe just ribbon a few feet in front and behind of each flag to force the riding line.

  7. Kawasaki Super Sherpa and Yamaha XT250 are both good choices for Trials type dual sporting, the Kawasaki won't take a trials tire though, plenty of D/S tire choices that are good.Possibly hunting down a TLR200 Reflex Honda if you want an even more trials type dual sport.

I have a Kawasaki KLX250,it's a great dualsport but since I am now a 95% trials only rider it feel too big to get into really tight stuff, but does well when I ride in D/S group rides.

Pavement bores the crap out of me.....plus I live due west of where I work,so commuting is riding into the sun both directions :-P not for me!

  8. Looks like Richard Allen is breaking("Parting Out" in USAspeak) a couple of 247s,same tank, different color,he ships to USA. Allensusedtrialsspares dot co dot uk,you can also find him on Facebook

Go to FB and join "Hard to find twinshock trials & aircooled mono",Also join "Trials Riders" (my group, and I also happen to own a 309)

  9. I really don't care what rules you want to make if you go to the trouble to organize and set up a trial,I will ride without complaint as long as you're consistent with enforcement (and I don't even care if the checkers judge the rules slightly differently,I will adapt to each section's checkers as necessary) I have greatly enjoyed myself at both kinds of trials.

  10. It's important to match your gearing to the sections you are riding in,When I set my gearing to ride the sections designed by the TY175 Yamaha guys first gear runs out so short it's only good for flat, tight sections, and second is still to high/fast,If I gear it a bit taller it first gear becomes much more usable,My clutch is a match for modern bikes so it can be used to negotiate the tighter sections and still have a longer pulling range for uphill runs.Running 11-44(I can't recall for sure the rear sprocket but that sounds right) I may swap on my SWM rear wheel and give even taller gearing a try,It's got a 39 tooth sprocket I think. Sorry, don't know the gearing on a 300 but the point is experiment until you find what works for you.

  11. Doug , I've got a pristine 300 seat on a shelf ... Should I put it in a box and send it to you ? your welcome to it as, I'm never gonna use it at this point !

    Glenn

We could definitely use it up here, either myself or my good Buddy JimmyZ who I've gotten turned on to Fantic,he found a pristine 240 after riding mine plus now he's also picked up an absolute Rat 200 that we need to get ridable.still have my address?

  12. Every little bit you lower the "seat" helps with turning the bike, easier to cant the bike over when the saddle doesn't touch your leg,I recently went back to the stock seat from just a flat plastic panel on the seatrails and can definitely tell a difference.I will be going right back to the flat "saddle" during this winters refresh for sure. If there was an option of Glenn's setup with a small alloy tank underneath that however would be my #1 choice!

  13. Thank you for your replies. 2 things I should have added.

Firstly, I find myself having to keep adjusting the free play up on the lever as I ride a trial as the biting point comes in further and further.

Secondly, to get the clutch to clear fully on the lever, I had to adjust it to the point where there is no cable slack left with the lever out.

    Any observations?

Adjusting screw in center of pressure plate under the plug in the clutch cover is backing off, make sure it has a locknut.

  14. Mine is like Glenn's,exception is I use Honda CR copy levers, cheaper, better fit for my hands. I also did the "Beta" clutch fix to mine, worth the time as It's been sweet ever since. Proper gear oil keeps mine shifting smooth through a entire Trial,ATF would start shifting hard on third loop.
