I was advised of this issue before I purchased my 2003 Rev-3 and sure enough, they stick like glue when cold. I immediately assumed warped drive plates, as they will certainly cause this symptom, but I was told this is not unusual at all and due in part to the material of the fiber plates. Some guys run ATF in the tranny to help it, but I was advised to take the plates out and scuff up the drive plates real good with some wet/dry. Don't be shy about scuffing them up, as this allow more oil to stay within the plates preventing them from sticking. I was also advised to clean the friction plates too, which I assume to mean roughing them up a bit as well to remove any glaze. This was described to sound like routine maintenance. All of this effort would be assuming the plates are within spec and not warped.
Not to dismiss the results that can come from new plates, but I'd measure them before I threw news ones in. I'm new to trials so if this sounds off base from other's experience ignore me.

sounds nice. got any pics? The previous owner put '04 plastic on my 2003 rev-3 250.
-
Mine only seemed to do it when in motion, similar to the video. Don't notice it at all when in neutral.

No high speeds for sure, but there are so many cracks in it I'm not sure I want to bother with it. There are 18 cracks that I can see, some hairline some all the way through. Many like this:
It may be fine for some gentle putting around on for a short time, which I plan to do as I learn, but I like to have things in good order. It will bend easier if I hit something where these cracks are, and no doubt while I'm learning I'll not have the finesse to avoid it. Not sure if this is typical trials carnage or if these Morad rims are just junk.

Pricey as I expected for a rim, and I'm not that impressed with them, although it does match the rear. What other options are there? Excel? Shoot me some pics of yours I may be interested assuming it can be straightened out.

Someone else today told me these motors have this distinctive sound and it's normal. Having never heard one it does get your attention, but I actually like the sound as well.

My new to me 2003 Rev-3 has a couple spots where the front rim was flared out a bit on one side from some obvious hits by the previous owner. I removed the tire so I could get easier access at hammering the rim back into shape and discovered that a few of what I thought were scratches on the rim are actually cracks. I got things straightened out pretty well, but I'm not sure I want to trust this rim for very long. I've been doing a bit of searching and learned that this Morad rim is made by what was previously Akront tooling. I've seen one source for them that I hear is good: Central Wheel in London. I'm wondering if anyone knows a source for replacement here in the US, as opposed to going to USBeta which I assume will be very expensive.
Thanks.

I just purchased a 2003 250 and noticed it does the same thing. It seems to run fine except for the whine, which I felt was coming from the clutch. This is my first trials bike and I'm not sure if it's normal or not, so I'm curious to hear some feedback on this as well.
Did yours whine before you did the main bearings? Just found this
where you can hear the whining when the guy takes off. This is what mine sounds like. Yours?

Yeah the previous owner patched this one up already, fixing a huge hole and the frame bracket. It's workable now, but cracking apart and needs more work. I figured if I could find a reasonably priced replacement I'd get it. The WES unit is less than 1/3 the cost of the Beta unit they quoted me here in the US, so I'll definitely go that way. Looks like good stuff from the pics I saw on a TY250. I found a US importer and trying to get a price from them now, too, but if it's like other stuff I'm finding getting it out of the UK will be better. Thanks again for the link to bvm.

Thanks!Being new to trials I've never heard of WES, but I see they make things for older bikes as well. I saw some pics of their stuff on some old TY's and it look very nice. I assume the quality and fitment is good?

Keep an eye on it because crud can damage the seal, making it more prone to leaking. This is why they make special boots (bullets) to slide the seal onto the fork, as even the edge of the fork can burr up the seal.
See if you can find these MotionPro SealMate Fork Seal Cleaners over there. They are fairly cheap and work better than 100 ISO.

I just purchased a 2003 Rev-3 250 and the silencer is in pretty bad shape and needs replacing. The tire did its thing on it and it's beat all to heck, so I'm wondering if there are any options for replacing it other than the factory bit. Anyone know what the factory silencer costs USD or pound just in case I have to go that way?

How does one actually watch the videos? I assume you have to go to their site at the time of airing?
edit: OK I see this is a channel on Dish (and other?), which I don't have.

I am sort of in the same situation trying to figure out what bike to get. I've been riding mx and off-road for years and now at 52 looking for my first trials bike. Initially I was looking to spend as little as possible and have looked at a couple TY350's, but I've decided to go for something a bit more recent. Maybe a 2001-2006 model 200-250 or something. I've heard the bigger bores are a bit of a handful to learn with. I hope I find something soon.

I'm lurking in here to learn a bit about trials. I'm doing a bit of research for picking up my first trials bike. Been riding off-road for many years and want to give trials a go. My intention is to get better obstacle skills for the bigger bikes, but who knows I could get hooked on this.
Great site!
