ask greeves Posted January 6, 2007 Report Share Posted January 6, 2007 Hello Ronoc 88, Best thing to do, is to remove the old chain and count the links. Count them more than once just to be sure. Make sure you end up with an even number, an odd number could indicate that at some time a half link could have been inserted as a stop gap measure. As previously stated, always buy the longest chain and cut down to size, if you bought a 'too short' chain you would have to extend it with another split link, as split links are the weak link, the chain would be twice as likely to fail. So maybe buy a quality chain and also a chain link extractor tool. When fitting the spring link make sure the sprung steel clip, faces in direction of rotation. It whipped across my foot, which is still bloody sore this morning and if it wasn't for my boot I would be in a sorry state. I need a new slave cylinder now. You love a chain ? And a couple a year? I've only used DID, Regina, Sidewinder, AFAM (or was that just sprockets?) and only go thru them every 2 yrs or more when i change the sprockets. The only one I had a problem with was a stock Kawi DID chain that broke 1 side plate when a rock got in the chain/sprocket. I wouldn't cheap out on a chain on a bike with a 10 or 11 tooth front sprocket. That tiny sprocket is harder on them than any other abuse you can do to them, especially at trail/road speed. Put your bike on a stand and pressure wash the back wheel. Tell me which chain has least resistance. An iris. I think that as a Renthal is probably unbreakable then it must have more drag.
