February 21, 200719 yr Hi, my dad has just bought a sherco 290 and was told it is a 2003 model, but it has 2002 plastics how can we tell if it is a 2002 or 2003. Thanks Steve

February 22, 200719 yr As a note, there may be exceptions on early built bikes that may still carry the prior year digit in the 10'th position. These are built just after the new model release but yet prior to full changeover to the new year. In that case, it will have a very high last four digits, probably near 6000 or greater i would think. I have had a couple ov "early" bikes this way. Yet they still have all the new model stuff!
February 22, 200719 yr Swingarm length was different between them. 03 was a tad shorter. Would probably need them both side by side to tell though. I think I have both in the trailer if you need measurements.
February 22, 200719 yr Author Thanks will look at the vin numbers and if in doubt will ask for the swinging arm lenghts.
February 22, 200719 yr 02 had a solid brake pedal, 03 has one with a like end on a spring type thing so it doesant bend if you hit a rock. hope this helps, HONDA TLR 03 > 02 was just solid Edited February 22, 200719 yr by honda_tlr
February 23, 200719 yr But my old 02 looked exactly like this picture??? 02 did not have a half link in the chain. Best of balance. Neo Edited February 23, 200719 yr by Neo
February 25, 200719 yr Vin number to Rathmells would be your best bet. Plenty of year and a half Shercos too, they were not afraid to change things during production, lots of 2005 bikes with 1 piece frames, lots with 2 piece frames (like the 4T) also.
