Hi there I am returning to trials after a break and am a bit out of touch and I was just wondering how hard and what standard of rider you need to be to make a decent attempt at the lakes??????? What kind of trial would you compare it too???

Sorry I can't compare the Lakes 2 Day to any other trial as no other trial comes close.

There have been times when the level at the Lakes has been a bit too hard but the last couple if years have been spot on for most levels of riders.

We intend to keep the same level for the forseeable future.

Biggest problem with the Lakes is getting an entry, i have heard the Secretary is a bit of a git, but he can be bribed..

So would I be right in saying that as a novice I (Provided I get an entry which sounds like it could cost me vast quantities of beer ;):beer::wall::D ) could turn up and ride and enjoy the trial without crashing and ending up a mangled mess of man and machine??????

How does the entry system work?? is it ballot , first come first served????

It depends on what you think the level of a novice is, someone who can ride at the level of a Yorkshire Centre Novice would be fine but a Novice in most Centres I doubt it. It's certainly not a steady ride out for an inexperienced rider.

Yes a very good trial i have ridden it about four or five times

can't remember off hand. The clubman route is a lot easier, the

expert one is another kettle of fish very hard in some groups.

Iwould say that a rider of average ability should be able to ride

and get through most sections ok!

A couple of years back Shaun morriss lost 20 or so on the expert route one day.

Another indication is experts from the "southern" centres riding as clubman.

Alleegedly an easier trial now. Try the richmond's club blue bar thats good for novices and us southern softies..........|!

Being a southerner who rides a quite a lot of trials in the north on the clubman route, I would say that the Lakes 2 day is the hardest one that I have done. If you are unsure, don't enter. That is my advice. It can be quite hard going in between sections as well.

MAD4IT you have ridden it 3 times by the way.
