He's just a playboy :guinness:

Well done to Brawn GP for giving Jenson a (half dozen? wins) head start to the season even though Jenson nearly threw that away later on .

The two guys behind JB on the grid (Hamilton and Vettel) at Sau Paulo still managed to finish ahead of him and JB was supposed to be busting a gut to wrap up the drivers championship !!!

The real gifted genius here is Brawn and his F1 technical-rule-bending capabilities. Nice touch that Brawns first words after winning were to thank the people that he had been forced to lay-off at the start of the year.

it was Team Brawn who put him there with testing for the new rules etc. jenson was just in the right car at the right time.

On the money Ham.

This years farce shows how much of F1 success is down to the car. That being said it's been the most exciting championship since Mansell threw it away on the last lap at Adelaide.

Bloody typical!!!! lets set some things straight.

1 Button won the Championship this year with a race to spare and even if he doesn't finish will still have 5 points lead after the last race. Last Year Hamilton won on the last lap by one point.

2. Brawn did have the best car and it's diffuser was protested. However Both the Williams and Toyota had the same advantage as did Barrichello. None of those made the best use of the car. Even since the other cars gained the aero that Brawn had, Button has maintained a gap to the rest of the field of over 10 points.

3. You do need a good car to win the World Drivers championship. However with 3/4 of a second covering the field in qualifying it could be said that everybody has a chance to win. Button took that chance when he was able and maximised the points when he wasn't. Barrichello, Vettel and Webber too often fell off the track or got involved in race incidents to really chanllenge Button.

4. At San Paulo Button put in four overtakes that allowed Brawn to put him on the "Safer" two stop strategy. It was "safer" as the Prime tyre was the best on the track and the softer option was marginal. Hamilton started on the Soft and the safety car meant they could go a three stop strategy using the "Prime" tyre for nearly all the race. Lewis did a few overtakes to get there but not as many as Button. Vettel Stuck to the one stop and that just put him behind Hamilton and in front of Button. It nearly paid off as the track came to the Soft but nearly's don't count.

OOOh you're so macho ^_^

Didn't JB have a 26 point lead earlier in the season? .....and he waited until the pen-ultimate race to secure the title?

The plain facts are that the rest of the F1 teams caught up with BrawnGP's initial technological advantage and this highlighted JB as a very average driver indeed.

It looks like JB's failing is in his in-ability to get the most out of cars that are less than perfect,it seems as if he simply cannot drive around 'set-up issues' in his car the way that the best F1 jockeys do.

''I keep making silly mistakes'', ''Wot yellow flag? ''

Good drivers know how to set up their cars for qualifying/race-day etc....Jenson isn't and doesn't.

Does the current world champ have a job next season?

Whoa there big boy. Nowhere did I say he was a crap driver. Indeed of the current crop he's arguably the most talented. Point is with the cars and technology the way they are now you can put the best driver in a crap car and he'll do nowt and a "crap" driver in a good car and he'll win. All drivers in F1 are bloody good. They're at the the pinnicle of their profession and (mostly) have done some bloody hard yards. But it doesn't alter the fact that the results are skewed by the car.

Buttons results until this year have been mediocre at best but this year Brawn got it right and his results rocketed. Barrichellos results bear this out.

Now tell me it wasn't the car.

Hi all,

If Jens hadn't won the championship a lot of folks would have called him a rubbish driver given the great car he had.

If his wins had come at the end of the year rather than the beginning he'd have been hailed a hero more than he is right now.

Jens has been around for years in F1 but never got anywhere......some folks say he's not really championship material, others say it's because he's never had the car.

Some say if Hamilton had had mediocre cars for his first couple of years he'd be nowhere.

Some say ANY driver in a McLaren or Brawn the passed couple of years would be on top.

My point here is that there is arguments for every side, however, at the end of the day Jens won the 2009 championship and whilst there were other more experienced drivers, Rubens in the exact same car, other cars that were better towards the end, luck!..............

At the end of the day Jens won the 2009 championship. It wasn't a 1 race championship, it was 17 rounds over which the highest average lifts the crown.

Well done to Jenson...........FANTASTIC!

PS. Rumours around that if Jens can't broker a deal with Brawn for 2010 he might be heading to McLaren alongside Hamilton. Wow!

Ian.

The Brawn car is a mule. It's had six inches lopped off the chassis to accommodate the Mercedes engine. The Gearbox was designed to mate with the Honda and a mod had to be made to pickup the Engine output. The Cooling and aero is compromised because the Honda ran symmetrical exhausts and the Merc doesn't. It is prone to setup problems because of this. Jenson also had to adjust his driving style as the Brakes were changed to accommodate a new sponsor half way though the season. Qualifying was compromised by this. He has however RACED his way to better positions in the races. In the process He has overtaken cars ON THE TRACK which many of his rivals have failed to do. He has also only failed to finish once this year and that was the only time He finished outside the points. Even when he couldn't overtake them on the track his pace in free air between pit stops was blistering. Nobody could match his mid race pace in those circumstances and that put him ahead of his rivals on several occasions.

As previously stated Hamilton won by one point last year and it took him until the last corner of the last lap to do it.

Yes the Brawn over the season was the best car, but arguably the Ferrari was last season's best car and despite the assistance of the FIA neither Massa or Raikkonen could eventually beat Hamilton. Team and driver discipline was lacking.

Other drivers, Barrichello took seven races to beat Button, Vettel couldn't take the Pressure when Button went after Him in Turkey despite having the "better" car on raceday. Webber was at best inconsistent, at worst way too aggressive. Able to race well when starting at the front but getting involved in pointless car damaging moves when somebody threatened to overtake.

Hamilton, Massa and Raikkonen had cars that were not the class of the Brawn at the start of the season. But they also were not the class of the Red Bull, Williams or Toyota either. The fact that they came back to hopefully finish well speaks well of the development they could throw at their problems as well as the competitive nature of their drivers.

I'm lovin' this tech info.

I've not shown much interest in F1 since Senna died so my re-call of current F1 events is blurred by my apathy.

Don't you think that JB's smooth driving style was counterproductive when the team was having problems with maintaining tyre temp?

Any driver that ignores or fails to spot a yellow flag and is demoted 5 places on the grid is a doofus in my book ^_^ .

The tech info you give on the car is amazing, it's shocking to think of the multi-
