I'm just interested in peoples opinions, as I can see if there was say 100 4strokes riding in one event (it might happen in a few years) there would be a huge noise problem maybe leading to clubs losing their little precious land they've got left.

I really dont know here, it is loud yes, too loud i dont think so, its hard to say as the only times ive seen them theres only been the odd one and they sort of... purrrr.

I like the noise, but i really dont know on this on so im going to sit on the fence.

New 4t Monteas at trial today and it is not that it is loud, more it sounds differant and not what we are used to. Much more throaty (if you know what I mean) so I don't think there will be a problem with loads all at once.

I was practicing on saturday and there was one of the new 4T's there as well. All I can say is, what is all this fuss about noise???

I don't think it is that loud, and when a couple of guys on Rev3's were going for the same splatter up a rock face, I thought the beta's were a fair bit louder than the slower reving Mont.

Also looked like the thing could climb wet glass, it just grips all the time!!!

Dunno if I'd be comfortable paying over 4 grand for one though, and the guy riding it said it was taking a fair bit of getting used to...

But still, I would if I could!!

When i think about it and read vibes opinion i now agree, not loud different.

There was a 4RT at the stratford club trial on sunday and I never even noticed it was there until it was parked next to me

Dont sound any louder than a 2 stroke. Much better sound! Dont know what all the fuss is about - heard one on Sunday for 1st time and the bike is no louder than anything else.

Honda couldnt really make the exhaust larger judging by the shape of the bike & it would not pass the noise regs if it was too loud.

It's not that loud really. Its no way near as loud as my KTM, and to be honest, I don't think is any louder than any in-line 4 600+ road bike.

There was 3 of them at the recent Bassenthwite trial and i thought they were louder than the 2strokes and didnt sound as nice either. My brother was observing and he said when 4stroke rode away from his section he could hear it a lot longer than the 2strokes.

My dad was observing on sunday and he said it wasnt too loud... Says it sounded like a four stroke and they always will sound like a four stroke

The problem with the 4RT (and all 4-strokes) is not the "loudness" (the number of dbs shown on a sound level meter at a distance of 2 metres), it's the lower frequency of the exhaust note that travels further and penetrates solid objects more effectively. As has been pointed out, the Beta 270 is, purely in terms of dbs, louder than the Montesa but the shorter wavelength of the sound means that is decays far more quickly. Lower frequencies travel further. And that's the real problem, I think. The 4RT would have to be much quieter than the Beta for the noise to dissipate completely over the same distance.

So in theory Wonder boys head is too dense of a material for the sound to penetrate

I think the poll has some merit - but it is the general public who are shutting down the MX tracks because of noisey four strokes - check out John Dickinson's page in TMX. - We also lost a local practice area in Kelowna BC, because of the noise generated by the MX style four strokes - As somebody mentioned - Four Strokes "Boom" and echo for miles. - It's a neat sound but only to Motorcycle enthusiasts.

Yes, it's loud. I own also a TLR200 and owned a XLX, the sound of the new Cota is definitively louder than desired.

We are working with sleeves to reduce the backing noise (when throttle is closed). Here is a prototype that worked good with sound (but it restricts the top rpm).

ive done similar ,a 14mm sleeve seems to work for me
