  1. Just in time for round 1 of the BTC in a couple of weeks and the youth and ladies' nationals later in the year, the new SDMC web site is now live. In addition to all of the features of the previous site, we've also added an RSS feed of all news items and regs and results documents and full integration with the club's Facebook pages and Twitter feed (new news and documents are automatically cross-posted to all these locations). Member sign-ups and email notifications will be live during the next week or so and to compliment the discussion forums available on the Facebook pages, we're working on a members-only message board to replace the old forums for sale and wanted ads and for club-specific discussions. Everyone's welcome to join us on Facebook and/or subscribe for updates. All comments, questions and criticism are also welcomed - please reply in this thread or email web@scarboroughdmc.co.uk (questions about SDMC events should be sent to gensec@scarboroughdmc.co.uk.
  2. Full results from SDMC web site. I was observing the event and while there were a couple of negative comments about the severity of the sections, the majority of the people I spoke to seemed very happy with the event - "tough but fair" seemed to be the general opinion.
  3. Haven't been round these parts for a while and this is the second thread I click on. Nice to see nothing's changed
  4. I never thought I'd consider myself to be lucky to be permanently skint and bike-less because at least I have a job and can still pay the bills. If you feel like fuelling your anger, read this (long read but worth it). It's pretty much all down to one senior manager at AIG who pulled a Nick Leeson but on an exponentially larger scale. And all those involved are still kicking back in their mansions and lighting fat cigars with $1000 notes. Modern life is rubbish.
  5. wingnut69 has posted some pics and video of Dibs winning and Doug losing the trial on the last section of the day on the SDMC forums here (scroll to the bottom of the first post for the videos). Sorry Doug. Nice ride, Dibs.
  6. OK, so the tests are completely useless, the results are always late, it's 80% ads, there are lots of better classified resources on the web AND they employed what I personally considered to be underhand bullying tactics to crush what I'm convinced would've been an excellent, impartial UK-based YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE before it really got off the ground. So why do people still buy TMX? Habit? Tradition??
  7. DVD Shrink is good for removing unnecessary guff (foreign language tracks, DVD menus, extras etc.) but for multi-region ripping use DVD Decrypter. Slices through copy protection like a titanium footpeg through cheap boots. Put it in ISO mode, let 'er rip then select the ISO file, stick in a blank DVD and write it back out. Rob's yer mum's bro. Should only be used to make backup copies of DVDs you already own etc. etc.............

    Hells Gate

Must be an age thing While I still love trials, I no longer have any real interest in riding a trials bike. Quite fancy having another go at enduro though. I might even drag the CRM out of the corner of the garage where it's been rotting for the past few years. Funny, I quit thrashing myself around forests and moors on a weekend and got back into trials because I didn't want to hurt myself. I've had more injuries riding trials than I ever did while riding an enduro bike... it's all starting to make sense now. Enduro is the new "old man's" motorcycle sport!
  9. Most. Boring. Trial. EVAH! What the hell were they thinking? "I know, let's have a mahooooosive step into the section, then on the off chance that anyone gets past that, let's put another one in the middle." "Brilliant Pedro, now what about the next section?" "The same, but with skips this time. They'll never notice." "Genius. Siesta?" "Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" If I were the commissioning editor at Eurosport, I'd be pretty p****d off this morning.
  10. According to the boys over on the KTM UK forums, Jarvis has pulled out due to a recent arm(?) operation which hasn't healed as quickly as was hoped
  11. So Dougie's riding the Tough One this year... but in the pro/expert enduro class (trials bikes are banned from the main race this year)! Should be a good one - Knight, Lampkin, Blasusiak, Jarvis, Braybrook... anyone fancy picking a winner from that lot? Pro/Expert entry list Speed Trial entry list
  12. I'm recycling an old PC as a universal media player/digital video recorder and the last piece of the puzzle is an HDMI cable to connect the PC to the TV. No problem, just nip down to Curry's and grab one, they can't be more than a tenner, right? Upon perusing their AV cable selection I almost passed out - check this out. Then compare and contrast with this. WTF??? Now I know that audiophiles will argue for hours about the relative merits of electromagnetic shielding and vacuum sealed connectors etc. etc. but at the lengths that I'm interested in, I'm totally unconvinced that such ****ery makes any difference at all. Grrrrrrrrrrrr........

    Odd Knock

I was having a very similar problem a while back - going up one size on the pilot jet cured it completely. I have no idea what was ACTUALLY causing the problem since the bike was absolutely standard which suggests that increasing the jet size was just masking something else. Having said that, I'd already eliminated every other possibility within my (admittedly limited) mechanical capabilities including air leaks, timing, electrics etc. etc. and the bike never missed a beat afterwards so I stopped worrying about it.
  14. "I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith and without faith I am nothing." "But," says man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves that you exist and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED." "Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that" and promptly disappears in a puff of logic. - Douglas Adams, HGTTG.
  15. Funny you should say that. I've had this site bookmarked for a while. It's the only political ideology I think I could believe in but I have some concerns about the practical implementation of libertarian principles. Guess this isn't the place for that discussion though! EDIT: dfwilson, my apologies for the accusatory tone of my previous post re. Ayn Rand - I misinterpreted what you were saying. I still think she was a nutcase and it's unfortunate that she's so frequently associated with the libertarian movement because although there are some shared principles, it's NOT what Rand was really about. In my opinion of course.
  16. I'm an Atheist. I've read "Atlas Shrugged" and several of Ayn Rand's academic essays and quite frankly they're crap and she was a freakin' nutcase. What pseudo-scientific ideology would you like to accuse me of being under the influence of next? Just because someone isn't with you, it doesn't mean they're against you.
  17. I don't really have much of an opinion on the outcome of the election apart from to say in my opinion, either McCain or Obama would be a huge improvement over BushChaney Corp. (a division of Halliburton Inc.) - and that's NOT a pop at conservatives, it's directed solely at an individual who I believe was astonishingly underqualifed for the job he did for 8 years and clung onto power through the promotion of hate and fear. Havig said that, I've been fascinated by the bi-partisan political system in the US and have spent the past couple of weeks trawling various well known left-leaning and right-leaning web sites in an attempt to make sense of a lot of stuff I didn't understand. The thing that's really disturbed me is the apparent viciousness and hate on both sides. The left's relentless assassination of Sarah Palin at a very personal level for example and worse, the right's suggestion that Obama killed his own grandmother for votes and following the result, the assertion that "what we couldn't do with our vote, we'll do with our bullets". This wasn't just one site either, I saw the same thing on two, very well-known Republican forums. Regardless of whether these were simply the extremist fringes of both sides or not, doesn't it suggest that things are getting a tad out of hand and that what the US really needs in order bring some perspective to the whole political landscape over there is a 3rd party?
  18. You going there to ride? As far as I know, there's no legal public practise area in Hutton-Le-Hole. EDIT: Just remembered that Eboracum run events in the area. Carry on!
  19. OK, it's not a trials bike but I guess my question is pretty generic: My KTM Duke 2 has developed an oil leak from behind the water pump. Unfortunately the pump is driven by the camshaft so it's quite a big job to remove it and replace the seal. Is there anything I can do to temporarily (or permanently?) to stop the leak until I have time to do a proper job? I'm thinking hi-temp silicon or something. This bike is my daily transport for the time being so downtime isn't easy to come by. Thanks for any advice.
  20. The leaky carb problem is any easy fix - the simplest is to adjust the float height slightly although there are other ways - search this forum for "leaky carb" and you'll find loads of information! As for the hard starting - assuming the carb's clean and you've tried a new plug (and cleaning the plug cap) then check the electrics. If the bike still has the original switchgear on, that should be the first place to look because the factory kill switch has an annoying tendency to stick on or partially on and there's no effective fix. Bin it and replace with a Yamaha-style 2-wire switch and check all wiring for breaks/shorts etc. It might be the stator but in my experience (and most long-time Beta owners do have experience in this area), if the stator goes the bike just stops dead and that's it. The problem was supposed to be fixed on the 06 models but the stator went on mine after 3 months. The good news is that JLI are pretty cool dudes and will usually supply you with a stator and CDI on sale or return - give em a call.
  21. I don't know whether there's a recommended setting - 10-15mm seems to be the norm but like most things, it's really down to what feels right for you. It's very easy to experiment so take an allen key the next time you practise and adjust until it feels right. If it's ploughing right now, drop the forks a few mm and take it from there.
  22. Managing/mentoring Browny and Dibs in a JLI-supported all-Yorkshire Beta team!
  23. That and the crappy footpegs are to keep the aftermarket accessory manufacturers happy. Mind you, at least Beta use decent quality bolts that aren't made of soft cheese (I'm looking at you, Honda).
  24. Not much if the "WFT?" expression on his face in the first photo is anything to go by!
  25. Nope, I've given it a great deal of thought and come to the conclusion that I AM a lazy, worthless loafer who shouldn't be allowed to influence anyone about anything, much less assume any degree of responsibility. I've decided I'm pretty comfortable with that In before this turns into another LOL XIANS thread and gets deleted
