FWIW, I've always used Coolanol in my bikes (on recommendation from an MX-er) and never had any corrosion problems. It's weird-looking stuff, flourescent yellow and smells evil. The container says it's just a mix of deionised water and antifreeze but hey, it cools and doesn't rot the cases...

PROVISIONAL results here.

Could it be something as simple as the lever pivot bolt being too tight? If not then yeah, bleed the clutch and if that doesn't help, take a close look at the plates.

San Diego eh? This place is the internet comms hub (called a "meetme room") for all of California and much of the US west coast. Every request to TC goes through here. If this place went tits-up we'd get routed all the way round the world and probably through a couple of those Chinese filtering routers which would be bound to flag some of the grumpier posts by Dabster, resulting in a blacklisting by the communist party. Which would slow things down even more.
So play nice folks and hope those guys in that meetme room in LA are careful with the wirecutters!

ATF should be fine. This question comes up a lot. Search is your friend

To drain the coolant, get a bucket or something ready, remove the drain bolt (yes, the one on the water pump housing), then unscrew the radiator cap. As for replacement coolant, I always use Coolanol which is really just an antifeeze and distilled water mix ('cause I'm lazy - I'd buy pre-mixed fuel if I could ) but it's always worked well for me and I've never had cooling or corrosion problems.

DOH!
It was a twisted chain tensioner. Can't believe that I never noticed or looked for that.
Thanks for everyone's patient advice.

Yep, replaced both sprockets. It *IS* very much like what a completely knackered chain feels like (which is what I had and why I didn't worry too much about it at the time). Due to being a tad short in the wallet department right now, I bought an el-cheapo Iris chain instead of my usual Renthal and knowing how quickly Iris chains stretch, I deliberately adjusted it very tight with the intention of adjusting it properly before tomorrow's trial (hey, every little helps, right?). I guess it might be this tightness that I'm feeling... see how it goes tomorrow.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Took the bike out for the first time in 3 months last week and noticed a weird noise when riding between sections: Approximately once per full rotation of the chain there was an audible "chunk" noise and a momentary vibration that could also be felt through the bars (like when a small stone gets stuck in the rear sprocket). It's not noticeable when riding in sections. I didn't think much of it because the chain and sprockets were both on their last legs (beyond in fact) and I assumed that it was a kink in the chain or something.
I've just put on a new C&S and when I spin the rear wheel the problem is still there - it's as though the rear brake is getting stuck on momentarily although it feels like it's something at the engine end - gearbox? It's difficult to describe so I'm hoping someone knows what I'm blathering about!
Any ideas?

The source is here: http://ourawesomegames.com/pub/bigfun.html but I couldn't make it work, either by running it embedded or downloading the JNLP file and downloading/executing interactively

Hell yeah, I'd forgotten about that site. Time for a re-visit I think!
I know what you mean, it's almost impossible to be as accurate using the joypad as is possible using a mouse although I discovered that if you turn the look sensitivity right up, you can get pretty close (with practice). Having said that, even with a mouse and auto-centering turned on, I still never managed to get to grips with Rainbow Six: Vegas on the PC - hardest game evAr?
Here's another thought: Team Fortress 2 anyone?

Due to being completely crap at almost all games, I wondered if any similarly rubbish TC members fancied an online thrash from time to time...? PM or email and maybe we can get a regular game going!
XBox Live gamertag: NeonSurge
Games: COD4, Halo 3, PGR4

What are the FIM doing about it? I'm assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that Octagon's contract is with the FIM and that there's a clause that mandates penalties for bringing the sport into disrepute. If not, it's as much the FIM's fault as anyone else.
My personal opinion is that the IWTC isn't really trials; it's just a trick-riding demonstration but I appreciate that at least as the riders are concerned, it's where the money is and it's the only wide-scale public exposure that the sport gets due to its TV-friendly nature. However, I keep coming back to the thought that an updated, international version of the old Kickstart format would draw a much bigger audience, be cheaper to run and more effective at raising the profile of the sport. Let's face it, there's not much to see at indoor events for the non-afficionado once the initial "wow" factor has worn off.

AA, you really should check out this site.
Tin foil hats doesn't even begin to cover it.

Shares in sunscreen manufacturers would be a good long term investment?

I did look into manufacturing replacement plastics a while ago but you'd need to shift bloody loads of them to recoup the initial setup costs (moulds etc.) - either that or set an SP not far off the OEM price in which case what's the point? Guess that's why there's no-one doing it
-
If it's anything like the Rev3s, the weight is attached to the flywheel using 2 large-ish cross-headed bolts, right? The only way you're going to shift those buggers is with an impact driver.

Some good photos on MXTrax. Look for the post titled "Knighter gets his a*** spanked by a kid on a trials bike"

Just heard that Michael Brown won the trials race at The Tough One extreme enduro yesterday AND won the

There's a big difference difference between "best" and "greatest". Undoubtedly Toni Bou is the BEST rider right now (as Doug once was) but he's got a long way to go before he can claim to be GREAT (as Doug *IS*). It takes more than your name appearing at the top of a few results sheets...

I saw this happen yesterday. Bike cartwheeled down a bank and landed hard on the bars (and on top of the unfortunate rider!) on the throttle side with the engine wide open. The impact obviously damaged the throttle because it wouldn't move and the kill switch did nothing. In this case, someone simply grabbed the throttle cable and ripped it out of the housing.

Full results now on the front page.

Oooooooooh, unqualified opinions, faux intellectual superiority and ad-hominems! I know how this works, can I go now please?
