A mate of mine has just bought a 2008 rev 4, when he got it home he was concerened about some noise from the engine, he stripped it down to find a good bit of wear on the valve guides.

He has contacted the importer & the valve guides are unavailable.

Does anyone know if there are other valve guides which will fit of any other bike & are these engines naturaly noisey tapetty sounds etc.

Thanks.

Many motors run the valves a bit loose in the guides it seems. Although this may defeat conventional wisdom to an extent and vary with design. Thi primary issue is still the valve sealing upon the seat area, and if this is still good(seats and valves sealing surface not worn) , a bit of tick may be dismissed.

Do you have specs and limits?

It takes a REAL specialty shop to do these things as far as renewal goes, not amature work, probably similar to the Honda heads, but may still cost nearly as much as new! :crying:

engine shop has confirmed there is accesive play inbetween stem and guide ,i am waiting to hear from beta if guides are avaiable ,if not they may need to be made

Sometimes the guides can be knurled and then re-sized to original spec. as long as the wear is not excessive and you can find a reamer that is the original size

cant remember for certain but .25 rings a bell you best speak to the mechanic at lampkins uk what you do is fit the valve so the stem is level with the top of guide where seal fits then rock the head of valve and measure the movement there ,if it looks accesive it probably is ,,also look at side movement on the rockers
