As this is the next running maintainence job I need to do (to sort a slow oil leak) I am wondering if anyone who had done one before can shed light on the following:

1) I understand that it must be done with the selector shaft removed as you can not prise it out and replace the new one over the selector shaft

2) In order to withdrawal the selector shaft, I believe the clutch basket needs to come off? Is this splined or tapered and is it easy to get off, or like the montesa, a real pig that needs a heavy duty puller?

3) When reassembling is their any line up marks that need to be paid attention to to ensure all gears select OK

It is possible to take the seal out without removing the seal without taking the shaft out. Lay the bike on its side and take the lever and outer casing off, the if you have a sharp implement such as a scriber you should be able to pierce the old seal and then wangle it out. Patience is needed but once it comes out a little bit you can get something into the side of it to make it easier. once its off you can slide the new one on and use close fitting pipe as a drift and thats it. another way is to screw a couple of self tappers in to the old seal.....then pull it out with some grips.
