    Hive mind can you help me please. 247 with Electrex ignition and properly jetted OKO carb. Starts and runs fine but when riding it if you open the throttle there's not much snappiness about it and it seems a bit sluggish. Could this be it needing new piston and rings (hope not, too pricey), it doesn't smoke much or maybe a case of the exhaust needing a good decoke and air filter cleaned/replaced? Thanks in advance

    Hi, I am going to replace the carb on my 300 Pro. Dell Orto PHBH26BS, I've been checking prices online and the cheapest genuine one is from a scooter shop. Just looking for confirmation that they are all the same dimensions, cheers

    Spindle play

    Hi, There is a small amount of play between the fork clamp and the front wheel spindle. Even when the locking bolt is fully tight there is still a bit of movement, I'm pretty sure it should be tight. Is there a fix or should I get a new spindle ? Tech 3 forks so I don't want to grind the slit a bit wider so they will clamp tighter. Thanks in advance

    Fuel cap O'ring

    The O'rings on the fuel cap of my 247 are failing quite often now, I believe that it me be due to E10 fuel. At the moment I'm just using basic rubber ones, can anyone recommend a type that will last a bit longer. Thanks
  6. I know it's been asked before but not seen an answer. I recently put an OKO carb on my Cota with great results and was thinking about doing the same on my Beamish. Has anyone done this and what were the results ? cheers
  7. I used it on mine, seems ok but not used the bike much since doing it due to the lockdown.

  11. Done all of the above, wanting to know if it is possible to check the CDI unit. I may revert to the standard system meantime and see if the fault recurs
  12. Hi, I have a slight problem with my 247. It developed a fault recently. It starts no problem but will not rev out. It will pull fine on low throttle openings but when under load it just dies out. I have cleaned out the carburettor and replaced the jets and the float. It has electrex ignition and I was wondering if it may be the spark breaking down at higher revs. If so, is it possible to check for this ?

  14. Hi, just a quick question about the base gasket thickness. I have recently had my bike rebored to first oversize. I now need a new base gasket so I can refit it. I have searched through the forum but have not found the definitive answer to the standard thickness of this. It is still a 250 and I won't be changing it back to 325 so it would be great to know what thickness to get. Thanks in advance
  15. CCMCC trials are good and easy to get to from Dumfries and also a friendly club. Heading in the other direction you can find the Dalmellington MCC, they hold trials quite close to the town to from near Sanquhar and a few sites near New Cumnock. They are a friendly and helpful bunch too. As for practise ground, if you find any give me a shout.
  16. I recently bought an adjustable c-spanner (from Ebandit) to adjust the shock on a Beta 80. Worked great but had to remove the shock to adjust it. Hope this helps
  17. I have a 1980 black engine Beamish, the fork springs are getting a bit tired and I am thinking about replacing them. I was wondering if full length springs would be ok to use without the spacer at the top or do I need to try and get some the correct length and continue to use the spacer. Any advice would be most welcome, thanks

I have only used one years ago while racing in grass track on my scrambler, home made with a bit of string attached to a small piece of plastic cut from the bottom of an early coke bottle in between a set of points riveted onto a jubilee clip. Now I've not even got a stop button on my bike, either stall it or let go and jump when out of control !!!
  19. Just been doing a bit of work on it. I was stripping the forks to touch up the paint, when I took the mudguard off I noticed that there wasn't a spring in the left hand side. It doesn't seem to affect them working OK so was this standard practice ? Or has a previous owner rebuilt them and forgotten to put it back in.

    I seem to recall Yamaha advertising the TY range in the late 70s/early 80s remarking that unlike some mediterranean makes they won't go red at the first sign of water, or words to that effect. Seems some things never change. However my Beamish does have rust on it, but it doesn't make any difference to how well (or not usually) it goes, that's all my own doing
  21. how about 14th July, or 25th August. Thats purely selfish by me as I'm busy otherwise . I'd like to do a Friday night but wouldn't be able to make it on time
  22. Won't be able to make it Tam, I was entered for a 2 day in Cumbria this weekend and had to pull out of that as I have a load of stitches in my back following a small bit of surgery. I'll be fit again shortly but hoping to play on it for as long as possible at work to keep on light duties lol. See you soon and have a good day tomorrow
