    TY80 Starting

Had the same problem at the weekend with my sons, it had recently had a tune up kit for the ignition and the plug had only about 4 hours use. After stripping the carb to no avail I put a new plug in and it ran pefect. I was thinking of changing the grade of plug from a B6 to maybe a B5 to see if it lasts a bit longer and not hole the piston hopefully
  2. As far as I'm aware they're no longer avaliable, when my Beamish needed new bushes I got some new ones turned out of nylon and they do the job and should be longer lasting. It also worked out a lot cheaper than buying the swingarm repair kit already mentioned. The hard part is taking the old ones out, the way I did it was with a lot of heat to burn the rubber inners out and then carefully cut the outer with a dremel multi and then punch the remains out with a chisel.Hope this helps.

    ty80 no spark

Can anyone help me? I cannot get a spark on my son's TY80, there is power getting to the coil because I can get a spark from the low tension wire onto the cylinder head but there is no spark at the plug despite fitting a brand new coil and checking that it is earthed properly. I don't have any means to check if there's enough power going into it so is it possible that a change of condenser and points will fix the problem? thanks in advance.

    coil needed

Thanks Ross, I've managed to source one from America brand new, theres some on ebay that are new old stock from a Can Am skidoo that are the exact same as the SWM ones, if you search under bosch coil and look at the international sellers you should find them if you need one. James
  7. Some of the new Chinese bikes on the market use them and you may be lucky and find that the parts are the same size as you are looking for, try ebay. There is also an Indian company on the net called mekeen .com that advertise silent block bushes. However when I was replacing the ones on my Beamish I found it was just as easy to get some bushes made out of nylon, while they are not the same as standard they do the same job and have the advantage of not rusting into the swinging arm. Mine took rather a lot of persuasion with a blowtorch, chisel, dremel multi and a selection of hammers. Hope this helps

    coil needed

Not tried Martin as yet Ross just had a quick look through the net to get a general idea of the price and was surprised by the cost of the ones that were on offer, however they might not have been suitable for an engine as old as mine, just wondered if any other coil would do as price and avaliability are better if the TY ones are compatible. Thanks again Ross

    coil needed

I am getting close finishing the rebuild of my TL320 and have just found out that the coil is no good. After a quick look through the net the only prices that I could find were way too expensive, does anyone know if coils from any other bikes will do the same job. TY coils are less than

    172 Gear Lever

Hi does anyone know if the gear lever from a Montesa Honda MH200 is compatible with a mid seventies Cota 172 ? Thanks
  12. Hi Ross, thats just what I need thanks very much. James
  13. Can anyone help me with the dimensions and shape of the pivot bracket for the propstand off a 320TL. I am about to strip the paint from the frame and swinging arm and I thought that I could replace the bracket that was missing when I purchased the bike. Judging by the weld that's left it looks like it was 35mm long and 5 or 6 mm wide where it fits onto the swinging arm. I haven't been able to take a photo of it but will add one if I get the chance. Thanks
  14. I'm pretty sure that Francis Barnett and James both used 8e engines rather than 9e and this would explain the vertical barrel. I hope this helps.

    Disc Valve Position

Hi Ross, just got the engine and gearbox together, still have to sort out the outer casins cosmetically and plate a hole where the chain has damaged in the past. Should have that done tomorrow and then I can start on the frame etc. Still on target to have it running for next month fingers crossed. James

    Disc Valve Position

HI can anyone tell me where to position the disc valve in relation to TDC or BDC on a 1980 tl320. I cant see any marks on the engine and as I received the engine in several boxes I am in the dark. I think that the disc should start opening just as the crank goes past BDC but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

    Ty80 Shocks

Swingarm fine but have since took the springs off the spare set and one siezed, will now take the other set off the bike and see if there is one siezed, hopefully not both and I'll be able to get one pair out of four , thanks.

    Ty80 Shocks

I have just finished rebuilding a TY 80 for my son and now that it is up and running I have found that the shocks are way too hard, they hardly move with me on them. I was wondering if there is any way that I could rebuild them and replace the springs for a softer set and maybe replace the oil, seals etc. I don't really want to go to the expense of buying a new set as it doesn't seem worth spending a lot of money on it. I have two sets of units so I'll be able to try at least one set out and if it doesn't work he'll have to get used to riding a semi rigid ! thanks James

    Swm Rebuild Manual ?

Can anyone help me please, I have just bought an 81 SWM 320. The problem is that the engine and gearbox came in a vaiety of boxes and many different parts. As I have never stripped one of these before I am not sure how to put it back together, has anyone got some exploded diagrams, perhaps on cd-rom that I could use this would be very helpful thanks. James
  23. In Ayrshire the Dalmellington club and the Stevenston club both organise good trials I can recommend either of them and they have a joint series every year which caters for all levels of rider, Stevenston have their own website and you can get all the information on that. Hope this helps.

    Ty80 Questions.

I usually use 50 to 1 mix chainsaw oil and have done for many years on various trials bikes. This makes it easy to mix 100ml to 1Litre and I have never had any problems. Hope this helps.
