December 15, 201411 yr Long time woods rider. Picked up an '09 2.9. Needed a small bit of work. Clutches stuck together. Timing off a little, leading to starting backward. Have a flywheel puller ordered to fix that problem hopefully. Other than that it's in good shape. Tight engine and wheel, suspension bearings, etc. Changed the tranny oil. Good deal on the bike for what it was. Now to have fun.
December 15, 201411 yr While you are doing the timing it's worth taking the small clutch cover off & pull the clutch plates out to free them up otherwise you'll need get the bike moving before getting it into gear then stand on the brake for a bit. It's a well known problem with a few brands of trials bikes when left sitting for a couple of weeks or so
December 15, 201411 yr Author Clutch plates have all been removed, freed, lightly sanded, oiled, and replaced.
December 15, 201411 yr Author And the offending transmission oil drained and replaced. It was gray and nasty looking. Put in Honda 80-85.

December 15, 201411 yr Author Just read the Beta fix. This one didn't have cold stick, it had STUCK plates as in stuck together completely. Like the PO put the plates in dry and let it sit. They were that bad. 15 minute fix .
December 16, 201411 yr Clutches can stick like chuck if left sit too long. Never trust them! I mean never! At very least place the bike in 4th gear and sit on the bike rocking fore and aft with lever pulled in to break them loose prior to starting! Never seen one run backwards either unless the woodruff key was sheared possibly, but who knows?! If woodruff is ok and top mark on stator plate is aligned with top edge of case web, you likely need a stator plate.
December 16, 201411 yr Author Is this clutch sticking more of a trials bike thing, a two stroke thing, or what. My ktm 4 strokes never thought of doing this. I don't really remember any of my off road two strokes doing it either.
