Can any one give me some ideas ?

Just put a new tyre on my gas gas and cant keep air in it for more than a hour ! Its leaking from the spokes and i have tried to tightening the spokes as much as I dare and i have taken the tyre of and looked at the rim tape and it looks in real good condition. So i have tried putting some like resin sealer round the rim tape and its still just as bad as before .

Can I use that tyre sealant stuff ? Is that a good idea ? And will it work at such a low pressure ??

Any ideas ?? How hard is a new spoke rim tape to fit ???

Go and see a car windscreen place and get some black windscreen sealant, put it around the spoke nipples. Make sure you wear disposable gloves as this stuff is really hard to get off. Let it dry and then fit your rim tape.

Preface:

Did you over tighten the valve on the rim tape (you might have cracked it)?

Did you clean the wheel before you installed the new rim tape?

Did you ensure you tucked the edge of the rim tape into the rim when you seated it?

Did you use some type of grease on the rim tape to ensure that it stretched out evenly around the circumference of the wheel?

I had the same problem with my Beta Evo rear wheel, I was so annoyed at the time it made me want to convert my rear rim to the newer design where the spoke hooks into the rim instead of going through it.

My problem was that I was using only soapy water to try and seat the rim tape into the rim. A tip from my local GasGas dealer was to use some rubber or assembly grease on the rim. Only put the grease in the channel where the rim tape seats (red in the diagram below) otherwise it may cause the bead some issues. I also put a little bit of grease on the rim tape itself before installing it, dab the grease onto the inner spoke nipples and don't be afraid about putting too much on as the excess will just ooze out between the spokes and can be easily wiped off. Once I have the rim tape in place I use a blunt object (like the end of a plastic/wooden ruler) to ensure the edges of the rim tape are pushed down into the rim well, After that make sure there is no grease near where the bead seats.

See above, I have posted this before. Do away with rim tape and coat the well with 2 to 3 mm of the above. Fix any loose spokes first. Leave overnight to fully cure the put a layer of PVC tape on to stop tyre damaging seal during fitting.

Replace the valve with a bolt in type.

Instead of the above sealant you can use sikaflex windscreen adhesive but DO NOT use acetoxy type silicone or the acetic acid in it will severely corrode the rim and spokes.

I did a rough corroded 07 Beta rim using this method in March and it is still sealed.

As dadof2 said NEVER use silicone sealer.

If it still doesn't seal get a can of tyreweld from halfords, blow the tyre right up with it and ride it round for 10 mins then let down to trials pressure and job done.

Done this so many times since tubeless tyre came out and it's worked every time.

Binned mine and run a tube. Happy days. Funny how it was fine for years and then gave up, could not be a***d with trying to seal it again hence the tube. Got a new Gas Gas with with the two piece spokes now, so thats good news.
