Are there any Gasgas experts on here who can tell me if this movement is normal? If not do you know what might be causing it?

As long as your clutch basket is not contacting the underside of the clutch cover you are still ok. Check for any witness marks under the clutch cover. 

 

If you have witness marks under the clutch cover then you want to check the thrust washers inside the cases. It would require you to split the cases and there is one at either side of the main shaft. Circled in red. 

 

 

 

Make sure you don't have up and down movement like in my video here. That is bad movement and causes a loud whine. This was caused by a stuck throttle run away which resulted in a piston cylinder swap.

You are chasing your tail. When the bike is assembled that shaft has outside pressure and cannot move. I still think you have a piece of metal in your primary gear that came from the kick start pawl. I`ve seen this happen over and over. It sounds like a rod knock and it drives you crazy. You have to use a magnifiying glass some times to find it.

I did have the big bearing behind the clutch worn on a ''project'' bike i bought. But it could move up and down. I did replace the bearing and some spacers etc and it was problem free.

This play will not cause a knock. I agree. Its in the primary hear or clutch basket.

 Since I made that post. My vintage ride for the weekend started knocking. No ****, this all happened in the last two hours. Beta TR33 which I last rode in October. I had cleaned the carb this weekend and started it after I made this post. Thought for sure it was the rod since it ain`t no Gasser. Look what I found. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 I am hoping to ride this weekend as it was the two half washers holding the bearings in place. Talk about ironic!

You were right lineaway there was a tiny dent in the clutch basket tooth that was not meshing with the primary gear properly.

But there is signs of rubbing on the clutch cover.

I'm getting excited now because it's nearly fixed but I don't want to rush it back together if there is still an issue with to much end float.

I once had that when on of the fingers of the clutch was not correctly in. Luckaly did notice it straight away and solved it.

 

 

The bike does seem pretty used!

Ive sprayed the inside of the clutch cover now so I will know for sure if the marks are old or fresh.

 Glad your noisy engine is quieter. While fixing my tooth  last night I also found more metal wedged into the teeth. Which now has me convinced that`s all my trouble and I should be able to compete this weekend. Good luck.
