Sorry to do this but I feel it is necessary.

I my personal opinion i would not bid on the following item as it is a dog and not worth what you would pay. My dad won the bike and went to have a look at it in Manchester, losing a days work and found the bike was not anywhere near as advertised. It had the following faults.

The bearings in swing arm and wheels gone.

The Fan comes on when started and the engine rattles like a food blender

The front fork seal are shot.

Both sprockets and chain need replacing and not just "needing adjustment" as the owner tried to convince us.

The last service was done over 18 months ago, so as you can tell it is not well maintained. The only thing he has bought for the bike was a new back mudgurd which is already broke. Don

Cheers for the warning, and sorry to hear you had a wasted journey, though I suggest that you rephrase your post to say "In my considered opinion" and "I don't think you should bid" as otherwise you are leaving yourself open to litigation.

mines in much better condition than that and i was expecting only about a grand for mine. only mine needs a bore and piston but thats it. think im realistic in my asking price.

btw all gas gas 's rattle when the clutch is out even the new ones my 05 does it , i got told if it doesnt do it then theres something wrong with it ...although some are louder than others..

you cant bore barrels on watercooled machines, as they are 'chrome' plated and so cannot be 'bored' what you can do is a new set of piston and rings will help alot, but after that its a 're-chrome' costing about

My lad had a txt200 a few years back. Steve Saunders from BVM looked at the barrel for me because it was rattling badly. He said it was a C barrel with a B piston in it, presumably fitted from new.

We ordered a C piston from Gas Gas which turned out to be not available.

My lad continued to ride it until (months later)it finally disintergrated. Fair play to BVM, they gave me a good price for it against a new bike, even with a shot motor.

The moral of the story is; don't assume you will be able to get the parts until you are holding them in your hand!

thats the beauty of ebay, I buy and sell fairly regularly and have bought and sold bikes.

A friend of mine though had a similar experience to yours when she 'won' an Omega watch that was not as described

you can sell anything on ebay, sellers can be economical with the facts about faults ( they dont have to tell you anything) and heap praise on the positives where as a buyer we often want to think that its perfect and that we got a bargain

I would always reccomend viewing the item before bidding ( no genuine seller would object) and asking lotts of questions online before bidding, always check out the feedback ,not for the 'hes agreat ebayer' comments but to see the kind of stuff their buying or selling ( in this case are they a trials rider are they buying mechanical stuff) also check out the photo not just of the item but what its surroundings are like does it look like you expect a riders home would look or are there kitchen appliances in the back garden, is it somewhere you you would buy something 'unseen' from or even visit.

To be fair to the seller, he gives very little description and your interpretation of 'needs adjustment' and his on something mechanical can be different

as the winner of this item though you are legally bound to purchase at the winning price and the seller can claim the diiference between the price he does sell it for eventually and the costs assosiated with reselling it at a small claims court (now an online process) and as at that time the items have been resold you have NO way of proving what condition it was in.

Please don't think I'm being harsh here, but if the bike was so bad, why hasn't your Dad posted negative feedback to warn other ebayers instead of just coming on TC which a lot of buyers won't see?

LC 350's are re-borable, as they have a steel liner in the barrel, modern trials bikes do not, instead they are coated with nicosil (not chrome, or nickel plating), directly to the barrel casting. If the nicosil coating fails, it can be re-applied to the barrel. When the cylinder plating is damaged either by wear or a seizure, a replating service can be carried out using diamond-hard "nicosil". Not only does this save the barrel but the "nicosil" is far superior to the original plating. No matter how badly damaged a barrel is it can be repaired by welding and re-machining.

If sending a barrel for replating, strip out all studs, All ports should be dressed and chamfered by the plater, and the barrel is ready for use. This should cost about

Well i keep learning and being corrected, isnt there more than one type of plating that has/can be done. And a different manufacturer may use a different one? thats the impression i got when i had mine sent away.
