August 1, 200620 yr When your front axle passes the start card's or gate your in the section, and when your front axle passes the end card's your out. I would assume this applies to gates that you are not to ride through in your specific class, if the front axle and the plane between the two gate cards were the decider on weather a rider received a 5 or not, then I could see how some thought it to be unfair, but you have to see it from the observers position, not down the hill spectateing. On the other hand, riders taking a different line providing they don't cross any boundary markers and gates not pertaining to their class shouldn't be marked five because the observer thinks it's an easier line than the other riders took. This is all hear say though, and the observer is the one making the call, not the spectator. Mario thought it was also a tough call, http://www.phototrial.it/2006wc/unitedkingdom.htm
August 1, 200620 yr I didn't see what happened with Laia at Section 15, but I know she got yellow carded. She came to the press office later to protest and was backed up by one of the photographers that she was polite when asking. Anybody see what happened? I didn`t catch it all but we seen the tail end of it and it looked very much like all the toys went out of the pram! followed by lots of shouting the bike being thrown on the floor and more shouting and hand waving a few tears, A angry tear off of the score card and stormed into the Montesa pits and more arm waving I know the woman is **** hot on a trials bike, but god when she loses it its a pathetic spectacle she done the same in the US too. If she wants to ride with the men then why cant she take it like a man if it dont go her way ?
August 2, 200620 yr Author does anyone have any idea why he gave laia (who stroked my dog at section 8) a five It would almost be worth the cost of a trip to the UK for that! That Spanish blood has FIRE in it! "From now on you shall be known as 'Ron The B*****D' I thought we beat the Nazi's? Still a few around possibly? Edited August 2, 200620 yr by copemech
August 2, 200620 yr Observers with a track record of bias or ineptitude or down right pig headedness should not be given the priveledge and responsability the be in a position to cause these situations to arise. There is always a fine line in observing and in a WTC event to have a known contentious puncher is not worth the frustration or heartaches that come from his actions. For his name to be freely posted here is an indication of his track record.
August 2, 200620 yr I was watching at section 15, Ron was fiving riders for going out of the line of the markers, not riding through other markers of seperate courses. Ron had told all the riders where they could go, and where they could not go. Ron 5'd Cabestany who was quite clearly out of the line. I watched Fugi ride through and he quite clearly went out of the line (for back up - see andy's video of fugi on section 15) and he was given a clean. I dont mind any observer being keen, as long as evryone is treated the same, quite clearly as can be seen in the video's this did not happen.
August 2, 200620 yr I agree , Its easy to have a go at an observer when they are deemed to be 'harsh' but what about the countless times that observers see flouting of the rules and do nothing. I read in the FIM rules last night that if a minder or mechanic changes the condition of a section then thats an instant 5. Now everybody does that so did you see any 5's being handed out? I never. If your going to put a rule in then it must be consistently used else remove it from the rule book completely. and dont castigate someone for applying them correctly either. p.s. I did see a youth rider (section 2) get a 5 because his minder didnt have his helmet on looking in the FIM rules theres a fine for that too !
