For benefit of non UK readers BBC is British Broadcasting Corporation - UK state TV. Twice in the last few days they have shown "evidence" of Israeli missile strikes on or near united nations school compounds in Gaza. It is quite obvious that these strikes were not the result of missile strikes. The damage, blast marks and scorching were far more typical of a small calibre mortar round. It is an old saying that "the first casualty of war is the truth", it is a pity our national broadcaster seems to be making assertions as fact without proper knowledge or research.

We get some really neat BBC stuff on this side of the pond, although it takes some time to swim over and is usually only run on our Public TV stations. My wife and I have recently become addicted to "MI-5", which I understand ran some time ago "over there". Since the lead time can be substancial, my question is: what good programs on the air now do you think I should be on the lookout for in the future? Jon

Having just watched another episode of BBC's Top Gear programme, I've come to the conclusion that the producers have made a concerted effort to 'dumb it down'.... a lot. Now in the past, Top Gear would never have been described as educational, sometimes bearly even informative, but the new series, (in my opinion) is utter garbage. If Top Gear is now a comedy programme then they need to employ some comical writers and some real actors, not Clarkson and co who merely come accross as overpaid arrogant idiots. (Actually excellent motoring journalists; just NOT comedy actors.) I thought the piece on 24 hour road repairs was dross and had reached the bottom of the barrel, …

TC would not allow the file type for this image to be loaded so I photographed it whilst I had my camera handy. It shows the waveform of a 4 stroke electronic ignition spark. The blue line comes in from the left, where it drops is the start of coil charging, this lasts about 3 mS. Then there is about a 1mS squiggle and step as the coil current is switched to fire it. The voltage the rises suddenly to about 38 kV for about 1 mS then drops again. The very high spike at about 24.56 mS is the voltage "pressure" building up before the spark jumps the plug gap and gives the burn time. This 1 mS at 38 kV is the ignition spark burn. For peeps using Internet Explorer or Firefox Browsers, Google do a Tool bar which has many useful features of which one of them is a spell check. When you have typed your post, you can click the spell check button on your tool bar and it identifies all the dodgy spelling. With a right click on the mouse whilst hovering over the mis-spelt word, you can select the correct word and it replaces it.. Or you can just click the Green Tick and it will highlight spelling mistakes as you type.
