General Trials Talk

Rather than the usual which boots I thought I would ask which goggles? I ride a few national trials a year on the road and also the odd long distance trial and have been using a cheap pair of goggles & the elastic is crap just wondered if any one had found and make,style better than any others. Also any advantage from having a face mask built in.

In responce to Jeff Geisen' thread made me curious to what the actual percentage of Handle Bars used by Riders is. Click honestly (one answer per member) so we can see what the ratio actually is. Gaff.

It's about time I got my son a new helmet, he has a Hebo at the moment, but I'm not too impressed with it. I do like my Shoei, and I did try an NZI whcih felt horrible. Anyone recommend one ? or any advice ? Cheers

Hi After 20 years of non riding, I`m returning to this nice hobby that has given me so much. Things have changed dramatically since my old days and have to admit that I`m not that fit to do this, but hope that this will improve after some weeks riding. I have tried to find open helmet, but the only models that seem to be available here (Finland) are ZEUS and SHOIE. As this is anyway very important part of safety, Im willing to invest some money trying to find out a model that would be safe, light and would have some nice grapchics in it. What number or colour is a good general purpose one for stopping Beta loosing it's bolts? Want something fairly strong...needs to hold the flywheel weight on amongst other things? thanks

I'm toying with the idea of selling my '14 Gas Gas 250. It's getting frustrating trying to find parts or find information. If I buy a new bike, who has the best support in the U.S.? Are Betas or Montessas easy to get parts for or is it the same situation as Gas Gas? Thanks! Doc

I'm thinking of changing my bike in the not too distant future and have narrowed it down to the 07 250 gasser or the 07 250 sherco. I wondered if any one had any advice. I'm 40 year old rider and not very good or likely to be any good so i just want something thats easy to ride but light and responsive any comments folks?

I am in the market for a new trials bike. I currently ride an 2009 Beta Evo 2t 250 on stiffer springs all round. I have heard the pros & cons of many bikes but wanted to know what the over all opinions are of which is the best new bike to buy?

This summer I want to buy my very first brand new bike, so naturally since I will be dropping a significant chunk of change on it I want to make sure I get whats best for me. I can get Betas and Gas gas's the 2010 gas gas looks absolutely amazing, the beta.. not so much. I wont be doing any comp riding just trail ridding through the woods and such. what are your opinions on which bike will be more reliable and maybe handle higher speeds better? I currently have a '99 Gas Gas TXT 270. Love the bike, but want to upgrade to something newer. Here in my part of the US used trials bikes are very hard to find. As such, my Gas Gas is the only trials bike I have ever ridden. I don't even know anyone else that owns a trials bike. Hi folks I'm new to trials bikes and so would like to ask what is probaly a silly question, basically which is the best oil to mix with my petrol ? I have a Gasgas JTX 250 which I am currently using petrol mixed with 2 stroke oil for my chainsaws etc thank you in advance for your answers

I currently ride an '04 Gas Gas Raga for trials, but I'm wanting something for the longer trail rides with my buddies on their modern KTMs. Where I live, we have lots of steep, technical singletrack. My Gas Gas can handle it just fine, but it's almost too easy on that bike. Looking for a great lightweight trail bike. I was leaning towards a TY or a reflex, but I'd love to hear some other options. Street legal is a plus, but not a must. I do not plan on competing with it, just looking for a reliable, fun bike to trail ride around here.

Hi all: I have the chance to buy either a mint Gas Gas pro 2004 280 or a Sherco 2.9 2004, I couldnt test either due to seller restrictions (seller is far from my place where i live..), prices are similar... I havent decide yet what to buy... Some say the Pro still have reliability issues, but to my knowledge (correct me if Im wrong...) 2004 models have all this issues solved... others say Sherco is not so flickable as Gas Gas and is a bit underpowered and heavy compared to the Pro... is that true guys??? Ok so there are 2019 model trials bikes already available from some sources along with the 2018 ranges and very nice they all look to! But which one would you buy and why given that you had say £6000 burning a hole in your wallet? Answers please to include known issues good and bad together with maintenance ease or difficulty. I like the thought of lashing out on a four stroke, but then think that there’s more to wear out when compared to a two stroke. That other niggling worry also comes to mind and that is will the manufacturer chosen still be around in the near future? Lastly the old chestnut, how good is the dealer network and support? I’ve not put down my choice…

Having discovered the showa rear shock is pretty much beyond repair I'm now looking for a new shock I'm ruling a new showa out on price Next is either ohlins or trp at between the 400/450 But I'm also drawn to the fox float mxr The wieght is ridiculously light in comparison to all other shocks and can be had for £347 The two things putting me off is durability and the fact they are not a common sight on trials bikes Would like comments or feed back from anyone who's used or using one

With plenty of talk on all the forums and at your local trials as to which rule is which thought I might have a crack at this poll thing. Also hopefully added what you prefer to ride and what you think is the best way forward no pun intended, for Trials at all levels whether that be competing, observing or sticking the flags in!!!

Ok, let's stop going around in circles, each to their own, no one will be happy with whatever rules we have, but let's just see what you all would vote for if you had this as a choice (fun) So here's your choice: 1. No stop as it is. 2. Stop allowed as it is. 3. 1 to 5, one Mark for each of the following up to 5 in total, combing some of the current rules in no stop and stop allowed, i.e. stop 1 (a 5 after 3 seconds?), foot down 1, go backwards (slightly roll back) 1, lean any part of your body/bike (except tyres and sump) against an object 1, etc, etc, up to a total of 5. As a rider, I like no stop, as an observer I would go 1 to 5 every day (it would make my life …
