My son's handlebars broke Sunday while riding very difficult sections. We were hammering expert lines at the site of our club trial last month. We were halfway through our "second loop", and I had ridden through the trap first. After passing through the end gate, I glanced back to watch Ian come through. but he waved me back to the start gates. When I got around to where he was, he was holding the whole right side of his Renthals, connected to the motorcycle by only the throttle cable and brake line! Luckily, he was doing some small front wheel hops while waiting for me to ride through. If the bars had broken anywhere else, especially in the sections, the results would h…

I'm having recurring problems with my '99 Gasser 270. The bike starts easily (first kick, hot or cold) and runs fine at low revs. However, wind it up and she coughs and splutters like a fifty-woodbines-a-day asthmatic. Main jet clogged, right? Well, last night I stripped the carb for the umpteenth time and while I did find some crap in there, the jets were basically OK. I also checked the manifolds for air leaks and all seems to be fine. Finally I pulled the plug and it's jet black with significant carbon build up. Hmm. I removed the silencer and there's a lot of carbon and oily slime in there (and I only re-packed it a couple of weeks ago). Come to think of it, it *has…

I had "slight" play, up and down ,(none noticeable side to side)on my swinging arm and it looked like the swinging arm bearings had worn on my 98 Techno I stripped all the swinging arm and linkage down ,cleaned the bearings and bushes. They looked a little worn (not excesively though) especially the bushes. Do I really need to get new bearings and bushes for the small amount of play that there is. Or is it false economy ,and going to cause more problems somewhere else like chain/sprocket wear(which I`ve just had new) At

Hello all Looking to get a trials bike to give me more ride opportunities. I've located an 01 Sherco 2.5, 01 & 02 Scorpa's, and a Gasser TXT280 Pro. All in good condition. All for around the same dollars plus or minus a few hundred. Don't know enough about any of them to make a decision. Some are from private parties, others from dealers. I'm stuck in Analysis Paralysis Heard the GG pro's have some clutch Trans issues. I've heard Scorpa's are reliable with the yamaha eng. And they really look industrial too. Any help would be welcome!

Trying to put together some trials promo material (after talking about it for two seasons). Intent: exposure at a motorcycle show where Tommy A has done his demos. I want to address two common crowd comments: 1. That's neat but I could never do that. Focus will be on youth, beginner, and club level stuff to show what the sport is for the average human. 2. Thats neat, do they do that around here? Promo for the local club, schedules, contacts, etc. My intent is a short 10-20minute endless loop video, a couple permanent poster boards, and some single page handout/takeaway material. I took simple home video of Youth-beginner Nov club events. That can be edited by pe…

Just link to the pics. http://www.traumrouten.com/afm/allradwr/index.html Seems they might have used this setup in the Paris Dakar Rally this year? Sure it would be a few pounds of weight, but can you imagine getting 'limited slip' type of front assist on that rock ledge? The nice part is the "gearing" is set such, that w/o wheel spin the rear wheel provides all thrust as usual, only when a certain amount of slip occurs, the front starts pulling. The edit was because I forgot the link LOL!

I don't use my bike ('89 TY 250R) as often as I'd like to, and it may not be used for up to 2 months at a time. Is it ok to leave the fuel in the tank for this long? Does 2 stroke mix 'go off', so to speak? and I've usually got 1/2 gallon of 2 stroke mix in a fuel can stored. Is this ok? Thanks for any advice.

After taking the carb off my 01 Sherco for the umpteenth time (in the warmth of my shed) I'm starting to wonder if there is any trails bikes out there where you havn't got to take the rear guard off and the airbox just to get the carb off. I dread to think if ever I had to get the carb off at a trail after a few muddy laps!! what are Beta's like or Montesa's like?? There's allot to be said for a bike thats user friendly with the spanners in mind The old Sherco seems to be running too lean for my likeing, after fettling with the carb and the ignition timing I'm starting to get p****d off with it.
