OK, just for laughs and not wishing to offend anyone who has REALLY hurt themselves, but let's share some daft trials injuries/ accidents. Many years ago I fell over at a standstill trying to push my bike out of a very muddy section after I had fived. I managed to land on the section marker and cracked a rib. This weekend after washing my bike following a trial, I was too lazy to push it into my garage via the side door. Me, being Dougie Lampkin, decided to ride it in. I can attest to Rev3 bars being wider than my garage door. I can also tell you that the brake lever leaves a lovely white indent in your right middle finger. It didn't hurt at the time as my hands were c…

Hi I am fairly new to the sport of trials. After 18 months of cuts and bruises I have taken to wearing some armour , knee and elbow . It has made a huge difference and will not ride without it now. I know the pros would not be seen dead wearing armour but why do so many club riders refuse to wear any , its the club rider that takes most of the damage. I use light weight mountain bike gear , it does not get in the way , it gets a little hot in the warmer weather but its a trade I am happy to live with. What is the general feeling from the old timers of trials ?

My dad and a couple mates' dads who are old trials riders are getting on a bit but have thought about getting back into the sport after many years absent. They just want to ride easy clubman sections and maybe just do some observing. They have a dilema as they don't want to buy a new bike simply because they are a bit too snappy with the power, don't have modern engines & brakes & suspension and most importantly for the old fellas - there's no seat. They don't want an old bike because they're not very mechanically minded and don't want to be restoring or fixing things. The only option it seems for them is to buy an old fully restored bike which commands top doll…

This topic has been discussed several times with people having many opinions and all with there for's and againsts, but which one is more challenging to the rider ??? I see it this way: STOP - gives the rider, albeit with a time limit at the higher level of our sport, within reason enough time to assess a difficult part of the section allowing him to hop and skip to get him back on line, certainly a great skill for the few that can do it and walking the section you don't have to be inch perfect everywhere as you can stop and hop back on line to get you out of some trouble if you get it slightly wrong. NO STOP - gives the rider one chance and one chance only to get his …

I'm about to buy a trial and find out what this sport is about. I have read that you should start with a small cc bike not more than 250 anyway. I've been looking for a 200-250 bike but they are hard to find. Although there is plenty of 280, 290 300 and there are also some 125. So I was thinking of getting a 125 to start with. It's probably the right thing to do if my aim is to contest but it's not. It's just for fun so maybe I could start with a 280, 300 bike and take it slow. (I'm used to motorcycles) Can someone please explain why I shouldn't start with a 300 2t? Please give me some examples of when a smaller cc bike could be better. Thanks

The last few years have been a great experience for me as I have learnt to maintain / restore a number of T/S bikes following me getting back into trials. I am slowly learning a number of skills which I would have previously not had the confidence to tackle without the help of forums such as this, so firstly thanks to all! So my next learning curve is around a Bultaco 175 which had its first shakedown ride but i have put this in the general section as it is around tuning... My symptoms of poor starting and irratic pick up from tickover in sections points to the slow idle jet still being blocked (the bike was stood up for a long time when I bought it and opening up the c…

So when do you go from Novice to Clubman? There seems to be a lot of talented and skillful novices, who've been trialling for years and seem to clear all sections all day.... Shouldn't they go up a class? Or do they like the glory and fear a challenge?

Fajardo seems to have moved ahead of Dabill. What is the reason? Is Vertigo not as good as Beta? Is Dabill handicapped by developing new bike? Has Fajardo / Beta combination improved relative to others? Should EFI 2T now be beating carburated 2T?

" Fully synthetic is fine for modern motors, not for our 50 year old ones. I think I have tried most, but have settled on Lucas semi sync. At around 32 to 1, that is 187 cc to 6 litres of fuel. I may be right, or wrong, but my motors run just fine at that. " This statement was posted in another forum, I asked for some evidence, or even a hair brained explanation, nothing !! I'm not sure the o p actually rides at all, who mixes up 6 litres of 2 stroke ? Is that overfilling a 5L can, or part filling a 10L can ? Anybody care to comment ?

I have a PWK 28 and there is fuel leaking from the idle air screw. Yep, the air screw. Baffles me how it can happen, but I must have something wrong. The carb is pretty new, maybe only 25 hours on it. Any ideas?

That is the question that will be engaging quite a few minds after his Sheffield domination. Bou's Honda may be good but if it were really much or even any better than the 2Ts Fuji would do better, so its a fair bet Bou's domination is down to rider ability. Pretty well all the top riders can balance as well as each other but Bou seems to be able to find a bit more traction particularly at the harder obstacles. They are all presumably on the same tyres and similar pressures. The difference between Bou and the rest would seem to lay in body positioning and throttle control. When applying scientific principles to other sports great use is made of videos and computer an…

Has it always been so hard for a talented rider to get sponsorship ?. I see posts were very good riders can't afford to attend the world events because it's way beyond there means, is the profit margin for factory, importer, dealer so close to the bone that the best a top rider can hope for, is a loan of a bike and/or help with expenses if lucky. I see some think the cost of a new bike is too much, on the other hand I hear the profit margin is so small that, people in the business to make a living, are struggling to keep afloat. I may be wrong, but it seemed to me twenty years ago the shops had more lad's out on the hill with a bit of sponsorship, the importer coul…

I've just bought a 2000 Rev 3 which has a fairly new back tyre which won't hold any pressure for much more than about half an hour. The air seems to be escaping from where the spokes are attached to the rim. I have spoken to Lampkins about this to see how to cure it and they suggest I strip out the, what looks like, black mastic and re-do it. Has anyone done this and what products have they used. Cheers, Tim.

I Suggested cleaning out the fuel tank on hrmad's 4RT poor running post. In stead of posting again on their I think it is worth starting a separate topic. Dependant on your location / country ethanol may have been in your fuel for some time. The detrimental effects of ethanol are now becoming apparent. A few key points Fuel containing ethanol can deteriorate significantly within 15 days Ethanol absorbs up to 50 times more water (from the air) than petrol Ethanol has a much lower energy output (calorific value) than petrol Ethanol attacks plastics and some metals used in fuel systems. In 2T premix the lubricating oil only binds to the petrol, not the ethanol. If le…
