Well, I'm still awaiting the engine back from the guy who said he'll strip & rebuild it........he's been so busy he hasn't managed to do it yet, which in fairness, ain't no real problem. Ok, so twiddling my thumbs, I noticed the bike has "lighting wires" coming from the magneto so "assumed" this could have been for a road registered bike? I had no paperwork for her, no plates, no nothing to say she had ever been on the road. I read loads on here & other forums & it seems nye impossible to register a bike with DVLA without some sort of paperwork. I wrote a really nice letter, very informative, photo's of the frame & engine numbers etc etc exp…

I am looking into fitting the lighting and speedo assembly to my 2008 4RT and I'm puzzled by the speedo cable. I realise later models changed to using a sensor on the rear wheel, but mine has a speedo gearbox and the 'street legal' kit has a speedo cable that appears to be a traditional thick cable (with rotating inner) at the lower end, but ends in a pair of electrical wires at the top. I realise that there is a sensor involved that is detecting the speed of rotation and feeding an electrical pulse to the speedometer itself, but a couple of things bother me:- I can find no reference to this cable on any of the parts lists, of any year, that I have found. How …

Hi, new here and just acquired a MH 349 in bits. Sadly it appears to have different length fork legs and I was wondering which one is correct ?. Also would anyone know where to get another replacement please ?. The frame has been painted red at some time in the past and I’m not sure if this is the correct colour as I’ve seen others grey and black ? Thanks.

Guys, my 242 has the later 304 forks on, just changed the seals etc, drained out 450ml of fork oil = 225ml per leg.....is this too much? Always thought these bikes took around the 200ml mark per leg & just wondered whether you think 225ml per leg is too much oil? Appreciate any views/thoughts.

Hi, Can anyone shed light on the tank & seat units (White) on these models (80/81), I have noticed on photographs that there are two variants! One being the seat area rolls over on top of the rear shocks and the other being smooth (shock totally exposed) My model is the totally exposed version. Somebody has pointed out that it probably isn't original and could be off a 250? Regards

Can anyone help me with the correct way to assembly and setting up of my cota 310 kickstart shaft. I have fitted a new spring and now cannot get the mechanism to work. How do I set up the cam type gear and do I tension the spring after fitting the cover? Any photos/ diagrams would be appreciated. The only time it worked properly there was a constant ticking of a gear not disengaging properly.

I recently purchased a Cota 200 and am able to get it started but I had some general questions regarding the carb and the decompression lever. There is a lever that moves either up or down located on the carb. What position should this be in when starting? What is this lever for? Also, when it is running and I move the decompression lever it stops the engine. Will the engine start with the decompression lever on? what is the purpose of this lever. thanks for any help you can offer. I think the carb needs rebuilt.

Hi all privileged 4RT owners! :0) I have an 06 4RT (Repsol) which I bought about 14 months ago to see if I took to 4 strokes; I did and love it. I compete most weekends and the bike is rarely ridden between trials due to work etc and the poor machine is maintained to within an inch of it's life. I enjoy working on bikes as much as I enjoy riding them and the Montesa is an absolute pleasure to fettle with. My last trial was 2 weeks ago and towards the end of the last lap I noticed a noise, which had manifested the previous weekend, which was becoming "noticeable". After cleaning the bike off at home and restarting to try and trace the "noise" with a big screwd…

After spending my life on Fantics and then Beta's I decided it was time for a change. The bike sure does make you smile when you get on it but I seem to be good at stalling it and make a good effort to go over the handlebars, another good one is remebering to keep it topped up because of the lack of reserve tank. The front end does seem heavy compared to my beta Anyone got any tips on how to not stalling it etc? Thanks In advance mick

I've had my '74 Cota for 22 years, always ran on points & coil, always hard to kick but always started, I'm getting old, recently had starting issues, installed compression release, still no start but had spark, pulled flywheel, checked points & decided to replace condenser, when I removed old condenser the wire pulled out from center of condenser, so thought that was issue, after 22 years with that condenser, replaced with new condenser & moved to under tank but then completely lost spark, decided to install Electrex ignition after reading on this site that others have done this & have 1 or 2 kick starting. while it now runs still have very hard startin…

Again, I use the word slowly to emphasise the rate this refurb is taking. Local engineering guy turned me out a couple of spacers for the front & rear wheel, how anyone previous can lose a spacer, heavens knows. Doesn’t really matter as a tenner for both spacers is money well spent. Both front & rear wheels now line up pin straight. The rear shocks were quite short according to one of the comments on here, so a pair of Betor ‘steels’ were acquired from Bike revival uk, ace guy Simon listened patiently to my thoughts then came up with a pair of these, £105 all in inc delivery, again, money well spent. The old ones were 310mm & these are 360mm, makes the a*…

I flipped my 2011 4RT (repsol) and cracked the rear mudguard at the rear attach bolts and I’m looking for another mudguard (and decal) but can’t seem to find one. Any ideas? is it even possible to order one from Honda ? (Though I’ve no idea what the part number would be- the parts manual I have is 2017 I think) thanks in advance!
