Montesa

  1. Started by irishjohn,

Es?I have a ‘90 MontSea 310 which I need a carb for. Can anyone tell me what size I need

  2. Started by syspig,

I wasn't looking forward to bleeding the rear brake on my 4rt after reading some of the posts here. Especially since an empty brake line was going back on with plenty of air to disperse. Came up with a trick I've not seen before that worked great, not only for ensuring all air gets out - but it's easy to do single handed and addresses the difficulty in filling the reservoir. Remove rear fender and muffler. Remove reservoir and two bolts holding the master cylinder. Pass the master cylinder through to the other side around the shock (yes, there's room - barely) then suspend it up high with the rear fender bolt in the right rear fender hole. This keeps the master …

  3. Help please , I was riding in a trial today and whilst in a section my 4rt just cut out, I couldn’t get it to restart, did the usual reset but no joy, it was like as if I’d ran out of fuel but I hadn’t. I Retired and went home. Any ideas ?

Hi everyone, I wish my first posting here was about something cool or interesting but instead, I need help with a stupid mistake I made. I have a Honda Montesa Cota 4rt260 and while changing the oil, I misread the torque value for the bolt that holds the oil filter cover retaining plate In place and snapped that bolt off. I am going to try an easy out for the broken bolt but before doing so, I would like to get everyone’s opinion on how necessary the retaining plate is. The oil filter cover sits tightly in place and is covered/kept in place by the crankcase cover. The alternative to the easy out is removing the engine and taking it to a machine shop which I really d…

  5. Did some Montesas 2ts come with a curved inner muffler tube, the perforated one that gets fiberglass wrapped around it? Are they still available somewhere? What years and models came with them? Did they make the bike quieter than a straight pipe? I have an 01 Beta I would like quieter and wonder if this is an option.

  6. Started by cord,

Does anyone know if 4rt swingarms are year specific? Or are all years interchangeable? Cheers.

This may seem a stupid question but I have a 1976 Cota 247 UKR which I have owned from new. It hasn't been used or over 20 years and I want to tidy it up and see if it will start assuming the seals are OK. I know I need to clean out the carb etc but is it ok to run on unleaded fuel from the local garage, what oil should I be using and what ratio petrol/oil mix please. I know that with classic cars there is also a problem with modern fuels destroying the seals in the carburettor. Is this likely to be a problem and if so is there a new seal kit that I can buy which is suitable for unleaded fuels. Thanks

  10. Bob - New from Tucson, Az 67 Montesa LaCross I pulled the Montesa out of the garage after 25 years due to a different location. Life just gets in the way. What amount of oil do I put in front forks on each side? How do I hook up the condenser? Which side of coil? Does wire coming out of engine go to positive side of coil? Bike has set for 25 years - still turns over well. Do I understand that there might be an issue with starting because of the magnets inside of the flywheel. Do they loose their magnetism ? Is there a procedure to start this for the first time? Thanks for your help in advance.

  11. Started by ChrisCole,

Could anybody point me in the right direction to get a copy of a manual for my 1977 Cota 247. I have had my bike a very long time but never got round until now to try and get a manual for it, I must be getting old wanting to know the right way to do things rather than trying to work it out for myself

Hi all, removed the swing arm from my 247 after having to cut the spindle bolt. I’ve soaked it in wd40 now for 3 weeks and can’t get the bushes or bolt out. any advice? Tried a big hammer and drift, didn’t move. should I use an oxy to heat the swing arm and then try the big hammer again. thanks

I have this hub that I am planning to use for a project but I am not sure where it comes from. Someone mentioned it might be an old Montesa unit, could anyone confirm? ID for the sprocket is 130mm, I can post additional measurements if that helps. If it is, where can I find sprockets / brake shoes? Thanks in advance for the help.

  19. Hi, I’ve just been getting a 2018 repsol which is practically new. Rode for about 8hours absolutely perfect. Then developed a bit of a splutter , the revs drop and It’s cut out a time or two during the ‘splutter moments’ if I rev. When I’ve looked again, the fan has tried to start and flickers at the exact same time as the engine drops revs and runs very briefly below usual idle speed, before picking itself up again. I’ve swapped plug and cap to new and it’s the same. Cleaned air filter. There’s a host of others things to try that I’ve seen online but was hopeful someone here could identify the issue without me having to tamper too much. Any help would be much appreciated…

OK - it’s time to bite the bullet. With much trepidation dragged out the 349 montesa from under the bench in the garage . Yep it’s a box of bits. The frame isn’t the issue - it’s the engine - I’ve an owner’s manual - it has exploded diagrams which are helpful. However, I’m looking for a strip and rebuild manual for the engine ( along with all the associated wrinkles to make the rebuild a smooth experience ) . I’ve plenty mechanical experience , but it’s always better to read a manual/ article before starting. ( many years of experience has taught me this is a wise way go! ). Apparently the montesa has interesting shimming!!! Any advice would be greatly app…
