Since it the only month our trials club takes off I’m diving into some much delayed maintenance. I pulled the rear end apart and serviced the linkage and swing arm bearings they are in good shape for being ignored for 3 years and don’t need replacing for now. I going to have my Showa shock serviced my a local suspension tuner with lots of dirt bike experience but this is his first trials shock. Upon external examination he is pretty confident it won’t be too different from a Showa dirtbike shock. I’m only having him service the shock with new seals and oil. It’s 15 years old and likely has never been serviced. One thing I cannot find a spec for is oil …

Hi to all I have a 1981 cota 349 which had one problem when I bought it. The gear shift only engaged 1 & 2 gear and that very badly. As the front wheel hub was brocken it took a while for me to find this out and after opening the casing I found the cam was obviously in the wrong position so that it wasn´t possible for it to move any further after 2nd to engage a higher gear. After having moved this back I could get all the gears but 2nd. was very difficult to engage and could only be selected from 3rd. going back down. I have now tried again but cant get the right positioning of the selector unit as I don´t know how it should all be. At present I can now get 1st and…

Hey folks, I'm a new member here, and to the trials scene. I started into the dirt scene late at 56 with a 17 350 KTM XCF and have thoroughly enjoyed myself, but I don't always feel like thrashing thru the single track at speed all the time. I do like to smell the roses at times. So here I am ? I just acquired an 04 315r and a 15 4RT recently and looking for a little clarification dealing with bar height and choice of. The 4RT has a set of S3 World Team Replica fats that I think i can live with, but the 315R sports a set of Pro Taper 7\8 Trials Lo that seem lower than what I am comfortable with. I would like to go with a fat bar setup and am trying to understand my option…

I’m sure somewhere in this forum is info on what I’m looking for. But so far no luck. I need info and places to buy wheel bearings and seals for my 72,73 Montesa Cota 247’s. I believe the rear bearing number part is 6204. I cant find the seal that covers the bearings. Mine are either gone or wore out. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, just picked myself up a repsol 260 - what a bike! ? Can anyone recommend a reliable and easy to use tachometer for setting the idle speed please ? Is something like this suitable? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNI-T-LCD-Digital-Tachometer-Speedometer-Tach-Meter-Measuring-Rang-0-99999-P8T8/312860215918?hash=item48d7ec0a6e:g:s4kAAOSww5Zd20vg I'm led to believe this needs to be checked regularly as the atmospheric conditions can affect and alter the idle speed... any truth in this? Does the operating temperature of the engine also affect the idle (I.e. hotter engine = higher idle speed) or does the efi self calibrate this? Thanks in advance

I'm contemplating buying a 4RT or Repsol, having only ever ridden a 2 stroke. I keep reading comments about how they ride differently, how people shouldn't ride them like a 2T. I understand that they are heavier, but other than that what is the difference between say a TRS and a Repsol when riding a section. My level of skill is pretty low, I'd normally ride one up from the easiest route at a club trial. I also much prefer messing around at a practice ground to competing. So no need for they don't hop better on the back wheel thanks! I'm also not able to get a test ride on one sadly. Really interested in understanding how they differ.

Hello All, I'm working on a 2007 Montesa Cota 4RT and I'm having some issues with the speedometer gear: I had to hammer it off the front axle! Now that I'm ready to fit the front wheel again and I've lubed and greased everything it needs some hammering to go back in again. I'm guessing this can't be right but because this speedometer uses a kind of mix between old school mechanical and new school magnetic I'm actually not sure if it's normal for it to be so tight. Could anyone please confirm? The other issue is that my Honda dealer here in Portugal said this part is discontinued. Any ideas where I could find parts for this 2007 Cota 4RT? Thank you very much…

Just thought I’d show you my version of a chain guard for the Montesa 348. Didn’t like the idea of paying upwards of £50 ish for something that might get wiped out in a section. There is a chain tensioner courtesy of In Motion nestling next to the gearbox sprocket, the upper chain run is protected by black water pipe ( cheap to replace if it breaks) the lower chain run is protected by thin pond liner sheet, this deflects falling crap from the tyre. There is also a lower chain guide made from bullet proof nylon (well the guy who gave me the plastic said it was ballistic grade). Hope you like. Any exposed glue (Gorilla) has now been carefully removed...it was just a belt a…

What is the difference in the top end of the new 301 vs the big bore kit (S3) for the 300rr? The bigbore brings it to aprox 299cc. Isnt it what the 301 measures? On a thread i started while ago I was contemplating the big bore and i had mention I was curious about the new edition!! Turns out the 301 is pretty much the 300 with a big bore and some adjustments in the valve that controls the engine brake in the lower end (correct me if I m mistaking please). Updates: Got the programable Throttle body from factory on 2018 RR so I just purchased hardware and softwares for re-mapping! Termignoni exhaust and header are next! Big bore is on its way via mail! If you re…

Hi All, Having got the leaking clutch case sorted, it was the seals around the gear selector and clutch actuator shafts, I am now in the process of road registering it. It now has an MOT and the NOVA docs are with HMRC as we speak. The bike has a wiring loom and I am trying to get working lights on it but the switch is not original and there are a couple of wires not connected. Does anyone know of a suitable alternative to the originals as these seem to be around the £100 mark. Cheers.
