Montesa

  1. After realising that regular disassembly of the majority of the 4-Ride's rear end simply to check/clean/replace the air filter was a bridge too far, I opted for the S3 access flap kit... fitted today. After careful cutting of the airbox using the supplied template, everything came together nicely; the kit provides adequate access to the filter, with only removal of the seat required and looks well thought through and engineered. IMO, well worth the £59.99 outlay to facilitate air filter changes in minutes, as opposed to hours. Can't recommend enough.

Im starting to rebuild my 348 engine and have refitted the gearbox into rhs crankcase, but my problem is the gearlever/selector seems very difficult to operate, how do i know its in the correct position before i refit it all. I put the mark on the end of the shaft towards where it should line up with the selector quadrant mark, but it just doesnt seem right. I know it would operate better when the shafts are supported at both ends but my head says somethings not right. Any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers Mark

Hope this 2 part epoxy resin holds, seems strong enough and was easy enough to smooth down with the dremel ?

Hi, I'm trying to remove the front sprocket off my 1981 349. I can't get my 3 legged puller on and trying to remove the curved bracket that goes around the sprocket. I've taken the bolt off that holds the chain tensioner on but when trying to undo the top nut the whole thing is turning and won't undo. I'm concerned as to what is at the back of the threaded part as it goes into the case and I don't know if it's undoing something inside. I'll attach a pic when I can resize it correctly. Cheers Neil

What's happened to the annual rumour mill? The 4rt has had 15 years in production, will 2020 bring us a set of shiny new decals or a radical new model?

I am in the process of trying to strip this bike and have a few questions. What are the differences between between VUK and a standard 247? Flywheel nut LH or RH thread? Any secret to removing the gearbox sprocket tried heat, currently sitting with heavy duty 3 leg pullers tension up. Anyone have a clear picture of the swing arm bush/spindle arrangement as the parts list drawing is not very clear? Cylinder nuts, got one off but other 3 are solid, currently bathing in plus gas? The bike has been stored for 20 or more years and almost everything is seized that'll do for now thanks in anticipation from gods own county

My 2016 4RT with 40 hours on the clock makes a bit of black smoke when I rev her. Runs great, lovely machine, starts easy. Full disclosure: I’m a lazy man, full maintenance done when I bought her with 10 hours on the clock. Nothing since other than cleaned and oiled the air filter about ten hours ago. Time for valve tuning? Too much oil on filter? Trade for a 2019?

Any good ideas on how to waterproof the electrics for a 2016 4RT. There was lots of rain today and as I use a trailer I am assuming the electrics have become waterlogged as the bike wouldn't start when I got to the trial. What is odd is that it still wont start even after the long trip home in in dry'ish weather when I expected the breeze would have dried out all the terminals. Anybody else had this problem? Cheers
