Hi, I’m going to try and get my Cota 348 road registered. Looks like it’s going to be a right pain, but I’m going to give it a go. I can’t find an engine number but the frame number is 17M7**7 according to a website I’ve looked at, the number should begin 51M http://www.lamaneta.org/numerochasis/montesa.html Any thoughts ? Cheers, Tim

Hi, I've read loads of stuff on here about montesa clutch issues, mine won't disengage, I've bled the slve cylinder, took the clutch basket apart, got it working then it wouldn't work again, before I go down the route of dimpled plates or removing 2 springs, out of interest how far is the slave cylinder supposed to move,, mines only moving about 3 mm tops. Any suggestions would be appreciated cheers.

I have my left and right flywheels, not swimming, but there is a lot of oil on them as I turn the crank. If I wipe the oil off its on there again after one revolution. I have recently changed the crank seals, so this seems odd to me. Is this a sign that the crank seal is failing already or is it a possibility that somehow oil is getting through from the gearbox or somewhere else on the primary side? Thanks, Daniel. 1971 247 Cota

Hi all, I've moved back to Colorado and brought my 315R with me. It is jetted for sea level and ran great there. Not surprisingly it is super rich at my house now (I generally ride from 7500-9k'). I have lots of jetting practice and brass from my MX and enduro bikes, but have never opened up the carb on this bike. If anyone has recommendations on jet size to get in the ballpark that would be super helpful. Also what is a good source for jets for this bike? I have lots of brass for my enduro bikes but they are all Mikunis and probably much larger jets. Thanks!

Hi Guys looking for a little assistance, took the clutch apart as Im overhauling a 349 Montesa circa 1980 and I'm having difficulty putting the 3 little clutch springs back. I know I should have taken a photo first before removing them but I forgot, is there a set up to reinstalling the clutch

Stupid question - think. I have a 260 so the lower spec Tech forks. The spring preload side (left side), what is the base setting? The Manual talks about "turning" it, what direction? I pulled up the tech docs directly from Formula and it says: "Our advice is to start leaving the adjuster in middle position (you can reach the standard position by screwing it completely and unscrewing it 5 turns). After this, you can try to modify the preload, turning the governor one turn at a time, in way to feel every possible little change." My hunch is CCW is less and CW is more? Based on the paragraph above I would assume turning it CW until it stops and unscrewing…

Hi, looking for some advice, I'm currently rebuilding a 330 Montesa and can't find enough detail in the manual to solve the following: • what is the arrangement with the lower rear shock mount? I've replaced the spherical bearing. Is there a bush that fits inside this or a shouldered bolt? • does anyone have simplified wiring diagram? Does the pink wire from the stator go to a kill switch then to earth? • is it worth moving condenser up to underneath tank? What's the best way to do this? Any help appreciated. Steve

I have a Montesa 248 Currently in the process of changing the crankshaft seals. I have been able to access the seals on the Magneto side but having problems with the clutch side. I am aware of the possible issues in removing the primary gear but at the moment I am unable to remove the nut on the crankshaft. I know the Magneto end is left hand thread but what thread left or right is the clutch side. I've tried moving it won't move at all Any ideas thank you

Hi, I was looking to replace the piston and re-bore my '71. Piston kits look pretty pricey, am I missing something or is that just the way it is. The cheapest I've seen one is £175. Thanks, Daniel.

Hi there, I have recently bought a Montesa 315R to start riding trails in order to improve my riding skills, I already loving the bike and the sport and can’t wait getting better in it. The bike was standing still with the previous owner and has not been used much, so I cleaned the entire thing, cleaned the carb, cleaned the tank, bled the brakes, put in new oil and coolant, new spark plug, new exhaust fibers and a new air filter. The transmission was dragging/sticking a lot, the oil change (Elf) did help and driving it around in all gears loosened things up. However, the clutch still does not work quite nice. It does not disengage completely. When on the s…

Hi, just got into trials riding and currently have a 2017 4RT. Bike is standard, and after talking to a few people they advised me to try 10/46 sprockets to slow the bike down and get better grip in the hills especially when wet. Unfortunately they didn't mention I'd need to add links or buy a bigger chain. Could any one who as any one changed their sprockets and needed to lengthen their chain help me out. Thanks in advance Kyle

I have three Montesas, Two are project mopeds. I have a Cota 50 that is mostly complete but in need of total restoration I also have a Fura 50 that was partially restored but needs some engine bits. Where do you think is the best place to find buyers for them? I do most of my part finding on eBay but I am concerned I might not find the most enthusiastic buyers there. As they are fairly complete parting out seems a shame and I know I will then still end up with all the useless bits. Really I need the space more than the money but they do stand me some cash which I would like to get back.

hello what it is the original setting of your 315r?phbl -because mine was with 13 turns for the air screw -for the needle its the 2st step from the bottom I changed the settings -air-screw :3 -needle:3 step from the bottom but she still does things strange to me: -if I put the starter, she go really high in the rpm(I almost thought the cable was blocked ,so much hight rpm) -It doesn’t all go down right away when I drop the throttle -she Knocking crankshaft its ok , but maybe the 3 ring its bad , not sure while riding, it runs just fine. but i think the idle speed its not pretty to listen but she holds the idle s…

I seem to recall seeing a diagram, presumably from an owners manual, showing the construction of the silencer with regard to changing the end cap from the homologation item to the one normally used, but can't find it on the web. Does anyone have a pic of this to show how the end cap comes off? Having drilled out the rivets, mine seems to be trying to bring the perforated tube with it, ie it's not keen to come off and I don't want to damage anything.

Sure it’s been asked before... Whats people’s views on the full termi versus mitani system... I’m edging towards mitani as I’ve been told it’s lighter and it has the cover which can be replaced if damaged whereas the termi doesn't. Cheers!

Hello All - Newbie question....Can anyone confirm why (1) there are two plus in the swingarm and (2) there are two spark plugs in the engine? I am thinking (1) chain lube but I think there might be a nozzle in the bottom missing. Still can’t figure out why there are two plugs. (2) spare plug? Best wishes Moray
