Montesa

Does anyone have any experience of using Silkolene Pro Boost? Would it be OK to use in a 4RT? Is there any downside, eg engine wear etc? Cheers

Hello im in the process of sorting out a 349 cota gearbox (would guess mid seventies bike). The owner took it apart but got the shims wrong and as such only had 1st and 3rd gears. I have the montesa manual but its vague about the shims, especially the sizes. does anyone know the specs of the shims (width/diameter etc) or can work them out from the montesa part numbers? Thanks for your help! Can take pics if you know them by looking no measuring.

  3. My mates Cota 315 98 model keeps stalling when we are out. The bike starts ok and runs for say 15 minutes. Then for some reason stalls and will not start again. It will start if we leave it for say 1 hour but as you can imagine this is very annoying! So he has had the stator cap off and found that the gasket had perished and a bit of crap was around the stator. He has now cleaned this up and resealed. We are going to give it another go at the weekend but I recon a new stator may be in order. What does everyone think? Has anyone had a similar problem? We will obviously give it a go first but I know electric probs can be a pig!

  4. Started by dabber,

Hurrah, Mrs Dabber has gone and ordered a Repsol for my birthday. (should have arrived 3 weeks ago, but still hasnt). In terms of setup I plan to detune it and lower the gearing to make ait as soft as possible. Today's question is how adjustable is the suspension? I weigh abour 16st and want to wind it up so that it's bashplate doesnt drag all the time.

I have it on fairly good authority that the new model 2007 4rt has been out in Spain since october. So why none here or has someone got one already? Why are they so late? Linked to the Appleyard deals?

Before I get the drill out to remove them I'd like to get some replacements in hand So can anyone tell me the diameter, length & threadpitch of the Front caliper bolts on an 06 4RT And what material should I get the new bolts in? I know titanium is good, but would something else suffice? And as a hint, if I drill the head off will I get the shaft of the bolts out with some vice grips, or am I going to need some heat for the lock tight, or am I going to have to also drill & retap the holes? So if you have managed to get yours replaced, can you describe the degree of difficulty. Thanks in advance

I am getting the Montesa ready for an MOT, to which I have taken the spacer from the front wheel and put on the speedo drive unit. However the right angled actuating arm seem to sit in a channel on the wheel with nothing to drive it round. Am I missing a part? Any ideas as this seems very strange, any pictures appreciated. andrew.dodds@btinternet.com

First day out for dad today on his new toy, absolutley loved it loads of grip on the banks and hopping and flicking about just like the 2 stroke. Brakes seemed a bit weak? maybe need bedding in a little but any help would be good if anyone else has had this problem on the new bike? Lowered the gearing a little (43 rear I think) but still abit high, whats everyone else running? Nice to see him on a new bike at last he deserves it, just hope he doesnt get much better on it though

I am thinking of doing a few upgrades to my 315 montesa. I've heard of a different barrel and head being put on. Boysen rad valve being put in, flat side carb, has anybody done any such upgrades to their monts and was it worth it / how much did it cost. I've put the jitsie shock plates on, different clutch plates. I don't want to throw money at it as its always only going to be an old 315, but I don't ride often now and have got money left over from selling my 4RT. Any suggestions?

Is there an Iridium plug available for the 4RT? I seem to remember someone saying that a CR6EIA-9 crosses to the stock CR6EH-9 but it has full threads. What's with the partial threads on the stock plug?

Urban trials bike. What about adapting a current bike or similar for 'urban' use. Where noise is almost always the worst problem. The idea is the bike is a proper trials model, but it has to have a lot more sound proofing. Bigger silencers, thicker exhausts, cases etc. Ok its heavier but would it be possible to reduce the sound levels considerably in some way. Still suitable to be road registered. It would still be comparatively light but would be expected to run in a different 'class' perhaps. Might be handy in Japan and the UK at least. Another bike varient for the manufacturers to make as well based on the same technology. Ideal for my garden!
