First of all, sorry for asking for help on my very first post.... I'm new to trials and have recently bought a 2001 315R which has conveniently broken down on me out here in the French Alps. I've been reading back through the forum and see that stator problems are not unknown to these bikes, and if I were a betting man I'd say this was my problem, but I'd like your thoughts please; The bike started misbehaving the day before. It felt exactly like an oiled plug, which given the altittude up here wouldn't surprise me. So I got it home (it ran ok after a good gunning) and the following morning I fitted a new plug and she started up first kick, clean and crisp. Problem s…

I'm sure theres an easy solution. Took the chain off for first time to replace the rubber chain tensioner. I put it back on the bike - but i cant get the chain ends to line up so i can put the pins back in. No matter how hard i pull - im 3 mm off. There's got to be a method to this.. anyone? One day i'll look back at these posts and think "what a numpty" Jza

Can anyone recommend a good forum for the old bikes? Is there anything like the Bultaco Owners Forum (been around for a long while, plenty of members, etc.) for the Montesa?

I recently purchased a 2002 Montesa Cota 315. I got the bike for a good price and it is in pretty good shape, except for the front brake. The previous owner described it as having a "wooden" feel, and he sent me new pads that I installed. This seemed to do a lot for improving the feel of the brakes, but they still were not right. I ordered a master cylinder rebuild kit from "Apex" and I think they sent me the wrong one. I have since spoken with Denise at Apex, and she is checking on the possibility of them listing the wrong part. So far they have been great folks to deal with, and I'm sure they will get me straight on the rebuild kit. My problem is when I took th…

Hi Folks, I have a 2000 315r, and have a little question...... When the seat/mudguard unit is removed, there is a small notch on the upper part of the airbox. The corresponding part of the mudguard has a small fibre patch riveted in place to (partially) cover this notch. Although it seems to be original fit, I think its a bit "Heath Robinson", and will allow water from the back tyre to wash onto the top of the airbox. Can this be right? The previous owner has filled the notch with some hard set silicone....do I remove this, or is it a common modification? Any ideas? My natural instinct is to replace the silicone to reduce the risk of water getting onto the airbox....…

Any suggestions on how front and rear sag/setup should be on a Repsol 4RT? I have the Jitsie linkage and rear set pegs. I was wondering if there was any standardized protocol like KTM's 'golden rule' for example. Thanks, Brad

Can any of you 'converted' 4RT riders give us an appraisal of relative pro's and cons versus your average GG/Sherca/Beta/Scorpa 2 stroke? Are there more converts than disappointed 4RT buyers - there seem to be a few 4RTs for sale recently with the owners quoted as 'going back to 2 strokes'. Any thoughts?

Hey Guys, I have to start this thread by saying that i havent used the rear brake that much.. apart from on the long downhills where i have time to think "i'd best use the back brake"... in other words it not "natural" for me to use it yet. Some of the guys down the club where messing about doing wicked skids to spin the bike round 180 degs... They said to bang on the back brake to lock it.. then pivot the body aroung to start the slide. I couldnt get the brake to lock at all However hard i press the pedal - there isnt the power there to lock the tyre up. No i do weigh 18 stone so maybe this has an effect? Whats going wrong? Is the fact i dont use the back brake m…
