It's time for me to change the oil in my 4RT for the first time (okay, it's overdue). I was hoping to be able to get to the oil filter without removing the skid plate (gee, I expect so much), but that appears to be impossible. The last time I pulled a skid plate off a trials bike was on my Aprilia TXR312M. Getting it back on was a mission so close to impossible that I had to call in Tom Cruise. He brought lots of vice grips and various other tools. I got it back on, but it was not a pleasure. So, if I pull the skid plate on my '07 4RT, how easy will it be to reinstall?

Just bought a HRC programmable throttle body ... came with a CD with 4 maps on it. They are 05rtlex0, 05rtlha0, 05rtlhl0, and 05rtlml0. All ep2 files. the "hl" is obviously standard (everything 0) and the "ex" looks like the extra power map (lots of pluses) but anyone know what the other two ("ha" and "ml") are like? Want a softer response off idle but happy with mid and top end as they are? Or can anyone recommend a good clubman map? Thanks, Andrew

Hi My mate has a Montesa Honda MH200 (circa 84-85) and the gearbox is noisy and difficult to get into gear. We wanted to drain the oil and refill but don't know how much oil it should have. I assume it uses light oil like most trials/moto-x bikes? Cheers Stumpy

Hi Folks, I wondered if anyone else has had this problem and found a fix? I have a standard 2006 4rt, no silly ignition maps or owt like that, but the spark plug is getting sooted(spelling?) up something bad. It looks as tho it's running rich. The bike starts to run rough after a couple of events and tick over is noticeably lumpy and stalls more easily as time goes on. I run on 98 octane fuel (more often BP fuel) and have use both puterline and pj1 filter oil to coat the standard air filter. the next thing for me to try is 95 octane fuel. After that I'm at a slight loss as what to try next. cheers Leigh

Bought a 2005 4RT about 3 months ago now. When I first got it, let it idle when starting up until the fan came on. About 2-2 1/2 minutes. Read an ad about a product known as 2 Two 2 Cool ... claims to reduce engine temperatures. After reading all the claims and testimonials (only bad comments from people who haven't tried it), I decided to give it a go (is fairly cheap especially for the small amounts used for a 4RT). Now it takes 6-7 minutes for the fan to come on when starting and the frequency it comes on during a trial is so much less. Just my experience. Andrew

Is the flame trap (metal mesh cage) beneath the air filter needed? I've just changed the air filter for first time on a new 4rt, the cage didn't fit onto the new jitsie filter so i left it out. The plug has fouled a couple of times, the cage must restrict air flow a bit. Plug looked a lot better with new filter in.

Can anyone tell me how many RPM's the 4RT revs to & how often it needs rebuilding. I am thinking of buying either an 08 Beta Rev 3 270 (so long as the stator problem is no more, ive been told its now sorted since enquiring) or a Montesa 4RT. I like the 4RT better but with its more complicated engine i am wondering about how often it will need a new top end and the comparative cost against the 2 stroker. My theory says that a low reving 2 stroke engine has got to be about as reliable as a high reving 4 stroke engine & when it does need rebuilding it is allot cheaper. I havnt heard of a 4RT going bang other than at championship level but someone here might have expe…

So Toni Bou, not unexpectedly, won the 2007 Outdoor WTC to match his indoor title. Laia Sanz won the Women's 2007 European title and should surely gain another world title. Dani Gilbert won the 2007 European Championship and Montesa sealed its second consecutive manufacturers award. These 4 strokes will never catch on.
