  1. I thougth that was hilarious, Fuji's quite a funny guy and it looks as though him and Dougie get on well together, nice to see the lighter side particularly of Fuji - he always looks so serious!
  2. Ok Thats kind of what i expected, there are no ridges so I snad the top coat off with 600 - 1200 grit paper, what do i polish it with then to bring back the finish?

    Side stand

Never really thought about this but my JTX250 has the stand on right (disc side) of the swingarm and justs bolts onto the swing arm if that helps. Can I ask why you need it on this side???
  4. Anyone got any recomendations for painting the back fender on my JTX, its in good condition but badly faded which lets the rest of the bike down. Never sprayed plastic before very successfully and it'll be rattle cans and obviously needs to be able to flex - so whats the advice? cheers
  5. I had a feeling the early ones were different but wasn't sure how, thanks for that.
  6. Some really positive repsonses here, I'm trying to keep costs down as I've started working for myself so if I change its probably gonna be something 2003 or less, are the 98 - 2001 models any worse than the newer ones or is it the old adage of buy on condition rather than age? cheers
  7. Just like to say thank you to Robin and his helpers for tonights trial, bit of a rush for me to get to the 5 oclock start, when i finished work at 4.30 but despite the pouring rain it was a cracking venue with sections which were just right for me, (might've been a tad easy for the top guys but thats the way it goes). Can think of a better way to spend a sat evening than a good trial, sausage and chips on the way home then a couple of beers to round it off. Just got to wait and see what the results are. cheers Hoggy (no82)

    brakes problem

Success at last tried the master cylinder off the pit bike and hey presto, stoppies everywhere. So master cylinder repair kit to be ordered and if that doesn't sort it I'll get a new master cylinder complete. cheers all for the help. hoggy
  9. Cheers all for the info Its kind of what I thought that they seem to be good bikes so I'll have to get me a quite blat on one to see what I think then possibly take the plunge. cheers
  10. Hmmm looks like you lot really like them, anything specific to be aware of, are they better after a certain year etc or is a particular engine size better than others (not even sure if there are different sizes - should really check). cheers

    brakes problem

I don't think that its an underlying design fault as at one time they'd be the best available but other bikes older than this that I've had previously (admittedly not trials bike) have still had reasonable brakes. Its the spongy-ness of them thats the problem, its a really "long" lever that does eventually firm up but you're nearly trapping your fingers by this point and if I adjust it up then I lose what little braking power I had. Bloody annoying really and if I remember correctly it wasn't like this to set off with but I'm not 100% on that bit.
  12. Don't tell anyone but i've snealed over here from the GasGas forum, started trialling last year with a 97 JTX250 which isn't a bad bike from my perspective but now fancy something a little newer and really like the look of the Scorpa's budget wise would be around

    brakes problem

Still having problems, I stripped the piston out the master cylinder and found no damage, re-installed and adjusted the lever out which gives better braking but its still "soft" and after facing up the caliper and replacing the seals, pistons and seal o-ring, there is still some sign of flex in the caliper. What do i do next as on long downhills, I'm running out of brake. Do I fit a 4 pot, or does anyone have any better advice on what might be the problem. Just thought it already has braided hoses so they shouldn't be the problem.

    brakes problem

Well tried facing up the original caliper and rebuilding and whilst its marginally better it still flexes and with screwing the adjuster in further & further at the master cylinder, theres now a "squishing noise" at the master cylinder and i think a seal has gone on that now - Arghhhhh. Could still do with someone measuring the bolt centres on a TXT or Pro 4 pot caliper please. Hoggy

    brakes problem

Possibly gonna go to plan B anyone know if a TXT 4 pot caliper will fit or failing that anybody got the measurements for the caliper mounts to see if they match? Having used the bike this weekend the caliper flex is quite large and facing it up may improve but can't see it will sort it where as I think the 4 pot si a better design.
  16. Ahhhhh - there speaks a man without children! As to suggesting she comes with me, good god, telling her I was going was bad enough, theres more chance of her saying she's going and on my bike than her coming with me - lol. Would it be better if the weather was good or bad? Good - we should have been out doing something with the kids, bad - shes stuck inside with the kids - no win situation so heres hoping its good so I don't get wet (its a "dry" site).
  17. Hands up if your in the dog house for going trialing on Mothers day, she's deffo not happy!!

    brakes problem

Ok Jon at least I know its a known problem know, I take it then just lay a fresh piece of sand paper on the glass and take each side of the caliper and smoothly move across until i get a "witness mark" right across the full caliper then do the other side to match? Does that sound right? I've heard of this before but never tried it, does it need anything on the sandpaper i.e water? like doing car bodywork? thanks for the help Jon

    brakes problem

Need some help chaps Front brake on my JTX250 is a bit spongy so tried to bleed it with no real improvement, during which I noticed that there appeared to be a weep showing, on the "bridge" of the caliper, i.e. on the top section where the caliper joins together (AJP 2 pot) when you squeeze the brake on hard. So new seal kit installed with new pistons and 'o' ring that joins the caliper sides together. Cleaned everything with brake cleaner then new fluid and bled up form the bottom up using a large syringe - no air present but there is still a sign of moisture on the joint on the top of the caliper when you squeeze on the brake. Its still no better in that the lever feels spongy generally and the stopping power is very poor, you certainly couldn't get the back wheel up in the air (not that I could anyway!!) So - any suggestions??
  20. I would love to see a pic of the trials DR350 and also to hear what its like to ride, in my imagination it would be absolutely horrible but if its been done well maybe not. i guess it wouldn't be harder than riding an old twinshock perhaps?? never ridden an old twinshock but imagine it takes quite a bit more skill than I've got.
  21. Hi Wondering on opinions on a poor front brake on a 97 JTR 250 There is reasonable pressure on the front brake but not like there is on my VFR 750, it seems to travel a long way before becoming firm and it doesn't pull the bike up sharply at all. I've tried bleeding it - no better, tried tye wrapping the lever back overnight - no better so was thinking that possible the master cylinder needs re-building??? Whats the opinions????
  22. Bit more info for anyone who's interested (probably no-one by know - lol) Averaged 35mpg over the 1st couple of tankfulls which is a mix of 85mph trip to Birmingham and the remainder around town so don't think that was too bad really. Very comfortable to drive and with it being the Hdi its got the power to pass stuff easily without dropping a gear or clenching yer cheeks. It handles well without being too bouncy, thougth the dashboard gearbox would be weird but its really quite good, heater takes a bit to warm up from cold but once going its fine. I definately miss having central locking - its pain having to check every door (6)!! theres plenty of room for me and my 2 kids in the front (ages 9 & 11) despite what it looks like. The right hand side handbrake takes a bit to get used to - I've forgotten to put it ona couple of times - oops!! luckily I always leave vehicles in gear and it was on the flat anyway. Haven't tried a sports bike in it yet but i think it might just fit crossways. All in all I think this is to be reccomended. Thanks for the input before and as I said I hope this is of use to some of you.
  23. So it appears i was kind of on the right idea, would love to try one of those LDT's but don't think theres any up Cumbria way and the Gasser isn't road legal so kind of rules that out. Jam - if you were gonna get another green laner what would it be then - Pampera??? or try to convert a trials bike to be more long legged? Are we trying to make something what it is not??? or do we just like tinkering about with bikes??? Lol
  24. I might regret asking this but..... I was watching a you tube vid the other day of some guys green laning and they were really struggling with a long hill climb, ground was dry but steep and heavily rutted, tree roots etc and while they were struggling it looked like something I would climb up on the trials bike easily (and I'm crap as!!) This led me to wondering why its so hard on a trail bike/enduro, the tyres are as good if not better (wet grass, mud use etc) so is it the additional weight, the gearing not being as low as on a trials bike or is it the frame geometry and physical size that prevents you trickling up finding the grip? I've done a little bit of greenlaning yrs ago so should probalby know but it doesn't seem obvious whats the difference, the only other thougth I had was that with the higher overall gearing on an enduro bike that when you adjust the throttle by a small amount it has a greater efect on the rear tyre. What do you guys think or should I just go and have another beer??
