  1. Thought I'd try a question in here specific to the Sherco's - looking to change my old bike and like the look of the Sherco's but don't know a lot about them, only looking at the bottom of the price bracket £1200 - £1400 which seems to bet you a 2000 to around 2006 and they look much the same. Any specific issues to be aware of or is it the usual buy on condition ??
  2. Well the only suggestion so far has been the Beta (cheers Pindie) so all the others must be crap - lol - and yes it will be buying on condition rather than age etc but did hope there might be some pearls of wisdom on which models to step past.
  3. I did a very steep long hill climb the other week for the 1st time and found I could feel front lifting so lean forward a little. back slipping, lean back a little, it was quite a long climb but i could definately "feel" the difference of moving your body around and how it affected the bike.
  4. Just a thought but I saw a couple of guys with a Ford galaxy people carrier with their bikes in the back = car & van!! I had a Citroen Dispatch which s just Peugeot 806 and was plenty big enough for my bikes so if you need a car but want the versatility of a van they could be worth a look.
  5. 1997 JTX 250 - nothing specific wrong with it, just fancy something a bit newer, so I can't blame my riding on it - lol - also can be a bit hard to get bits to bling it up a bit more. After a while you just want something else I suppose, probably be better spending the money on riding it more often.
  6. Yeah I know what you mean, I was just wanting a bit of a heads up on specific models to steer clear of or known problems (i.e. the Beta Stators) or the "try to get the 02 onwards as they are....." etc
  7. All being well I'm gonna change my bike shortly and just want a quick heads up on what to avoid, currently got a Gasser and like it, mates got a Mont 315 and its nice but a little heavier so I kinda know what they're about (bullet proof?? lol) so any advice on what years or problems the following are prone to? Budgets probably around £1200 ish Beta Rev 3 - stators I know about - any years to sidestep? Sherco - don't know much about but they look nice!! Scorpa - Anything with the Yam engine is good as far as I know Gas Gas, early pro's were problems I think?? I'm a crap rider so the performance side of it doesn't bother me, I'll learn to adapt I'm sure, just don't want to buy a lemon. Cheers
  8. Just my tuppence worth but..... if you use one of these and its over the weight limit, remember that you might have no insurance at all, you crash you could lose everything and be prosecuted. However we've all broke the law at some point so its your choice.
  9. wish I hadn't now, knew I was having a bad ride but thats confirmed it, 13 mrks more than last year on a low scoring day =((
  10. Anyone know what the results were from the above trial, they haven't been posted on here or the club site??
  11. Confession time i've had problems bleeding the brakes before so assumed that was the issue but on further inspection the other night nothing was coming through the hose to the caliper, thats when I realised something wasn't right, and the problem had got worse after re-fitting the engine. Soooooo..... the hose from the master cylinder was trapped between the engine and swingarm crimping it closed, unbolted the swingarm amd moved it to the side then tried bleeding it with the syringe and it bled up no bother. So the moral of the story is have a bloody good look first and don't assume anything!! Feel a right dick now!!! but its back up and running so never mind. Cheers guys
  12. Arghhh after the day I've had (nowt to do with trials bike!) yes it is a silly question, but I appreciate the sentiment and yes, bleed nipple is loose and clear of obstructions and cap is off. Love playing on my trials bike and love tinkering with bikes in the garage - hate tinkering with trials bikes - they're too bloody small!! - lol
  13. Tried bleeding up my back brakes last night with a gurt big syringe and can get nothing moving - pulling or pushing through the bleed nipple, last time a mate of a mate bled it through the banjo on the rear caliper but I can get no movement no matter what i do. Is it time to strip absolutely everything out of it and check for blockages??
  14. Bad luck on that one - does the Gunson kit have a cap that replaces your lid on the master cylinder?? never used one and dont want to buy one that doesn't fit my M/C
  15. Nice to know Five just gotta be brave i think and cut a hole in my center box, seems worong cutting a hole in it when its not finished though!!!
  16. Not much chance of that, could be anywhere in 3 mile radius of the car park.
  17. Welding its kinda not an option and it doesn't need welding it just needs finding, its somewhere between section 4 and 9, but god knows where. My fault coz I'd been trying to repair it that morning (couldn't) and obviously didn't tighten the bolt in before loading up.
  18. Anyone know if any of the newet TXT or pro rear brake lever will fit a 97 JTX or if there are any aftermarket suppliers, GGUK wants nearly £70 for a new one EEK!!
  19. What about a transit, you get amazing spec with loads of toys if you look around and I'm fairly certain the swb is bigger inside than most of the other vans in class, certainly a lot bigger than a transporter. I've just got a 140 limited which is silly fast, averaging 34mpg at 80mph with cruise on has every extra you can think, 2.5yrs old 50k on the clock £9k plus vat.
  20. Stripped it out yesterday and put 12v across it again, push started it and it does run but it feels "tight" so will try to get a new motor.
  21. Yeh the motor and blade are separate from the housing but the motor housing has 3 mounting points which are part of the motor and the motor looks to me like a sealed unit so I can't see me being able to replace just the motor, I'll ring GG UK to see how much a new one is tomorrow.
  22. Anyone know if these motors fit a 97 JTX, my fan appears to be a one piece and has no rubber boot
  23. Yeh I thought i should be able to get a resistance thorugh it, strang ehow it just stopped though, any ideas on the voltage side??? don't want to buy a fan and find out its something else
  24. If this should go in the Gas Gas section - appologies and the mods could move it? Got a JTX250 97 with a dead fan, was working ok last time out but I've since had the engine out for a freshen up. The fan switch appears ok and I have an overide switch so I know I've got continuity through that (checked with multimeter) From the rectifier on the red wire which I'm assuming is the live I'm only getting 4v when its running at bit more than tickover, (typical section revs) which doesn't seem right. I've tried for continuity through the fan motor but get nothing - is this right? - this was checking it with buzz on the multimeter, I would think I should be able to test the resisitance through the motor to prove that there is a path but I'm not sure. I put 12v through the fan from the car battery but nothing happened?? Anybody got any advice on checking this out further, don't want to buy a fan if thats not the problem
  25. Tis now in - yay!!!! Couldn't get a 14mm bolt so decided to start from scratch again, I'd knocked an edge of the thread trying to hammer it through so had to tidy that up and decided to insert the axle from the other side as that was the one giving trouble. Greased it up and aligned it as best then knocked it through, took a bit of jiggery pokery to line it all up bit it went. Then bolted up the front, bottom and cylinder head supprort. Gotta say tis the most awkward engine I've ever fitted, with having 2 supports at the back, 1 at the top and 1 at the front theres a hell of a lot of support, I assime that the old spaniards know more than me but bloody hell does it need that much. Just gotta clean out the middle silencer next then put the rest of it back together. Then its play time.!! Cheers for the advice guys
