  1. Hi, I have 2004 and initially I was using light gear oil, as I do in my MX bike, but the cold sticking clutch was really bad so I changed to using a standard cheap 10W40 (Carlube 10W40) motor oil after reading in a forum and checking with a few of mates. I've been using this for a while now and it seems to have eased the cold sticking and the changes seem much smoother. Cheap and worth a try.....
  2. Just a thought, could you not find a bolt of the right size to bung up the pipe to stop it leaking? I did this on a unused vacuum hose on my supermoto once and it worked a treat.
  3. The bumps go down, dip, as well as up, bump, and to keep the tyre on the ground the forks need to extend as well as compress and without sag there is nowhere to go.
  4. T and t is closer but their web site says nothing about a service department. I will give them a call in the new year. Thanks.
  5. Hi All, As the subject says I'll be needing a dealer at some time shortly for a rebuild of my Sherco ST290 (2004). As I'm based in Birmingham area, West Midlands, UK, I was wondering if there was a local dealer I could rely upon for this. I was thinking BVM but they are 90 mins away.... Yesterday, I had an issue where my bike just stopped on a cold weather ride and today it started third kick but the plug was black. I was sure it was not clearing out all day and that seems to be right on the money after looking at the plug. I'm thinking that it might need at least a set of rings as the bikes history is unknown. If it was an MX bike I know who to take this to but not sure they are into trials rebuilds. Basically I'd like to get the engine to a known position and work from there. Thanks!
  6. I ordered the same as my shoe size (UK8)and they are ace with seal skin socks. I can even drive in them.
  7. Nice to see a DRZ in action.... I never thought of using mine for long distance trials though...hmmmm ideas!
  8. Hi, Pretty normal for a trials bike. I thought the same when I got mine but a search on here for clutch issues lead to many other with the same thing. Mine is better when I use straight 10W40 car oil in the gbox, not recommended but works for me! John

    06 Crack...

Hi all, Just thinking about this pivot bolt length issue and relating it back to my MX bike. As far as I can see the threaded portion on my MX bike extends into the hole on the side of the frame and so allows the tightening of the pivot bolt to pull the two side together to take up any clearance on the swing-arm and spacers. This is what the original bolt was doing as It looked to have enough engagement to me. What popped into my mind was, if the swing-arm inner races and spacers were not long enough, then the frame would need to be pulled together too much and this in itself would put undue stress on the side frame rails and this might be worse than a short bolt. Just my musings.... John
  10. OK All, Stand down! I've stopped looking for the diadora spares and looked to more normal machine screws and found some lovely stainless M4 x 6 Pan Pozi Machine Screws on ebay. Next, is to fit them with Loctite me thinks.
  11. Hi All, Just cleaned my Diadora Mud boots and noticed that I have lost 3 of the black screws that hold the front edge of the buckle to the boot. Anyone know here I can get spares from the these boots? I'd guess that they are the same as the stone 3's buckets too. Tried ebay and google so far. Thanks.
  12. That's a good idea! Thanks! By the way, has anyone looked at the notoil replacement filter for the Sherco? I picked one up as a second filter for my 290 and it seems well made but much heavier in construction than the Black/Orange (STD?) one that the machine came with. I might be getting a couple more.
  13. Nope, I just put the clean filters in a plastic bag in the Garage and retrieve and oil as required. <Latex Gloves at the ready> The only bad point with pre-oiling, that I see, is the possibility of them picking up dirt while hanging around my garage as it's not exactly an aerospace workshop...
  14. I'll second the "NoToil" method as I've been using it for years on the Enduro and MX bikes. For my YZ I have a bag of 6 filters and once they are all dirty I stick them into the washing machine with the powder release agent and a bit of normal washing powder and 30 mins later 6 nice mega clean filters..... Easy!
  15. Hi Kev, I have just purchased a pair of these (Trick) as I went looking for something a little less revealing!!! They are still a mixture of lycra but have a fair proportion of what looks like panels that are from a material I have only seen on MX type trousers. Much better and a great fit around the waist area when compared to the MX bottoms that I have been using. This should stop me having to constantly pull them up..... All the best,
  16. Hi Tony, I was estimating based on the length of the kick start that the YZ would have been higher but I could be wrong. Thanks for the input. Anyone else have a figure from a reading on a new machine or better recently run in machine. I'll get the tester out on mine tomorrow and let you know the reading.
  17. Hi Both, Thanks for the replies. I was sure I had read this somewhere and guessed that it was on here. For the small price, I'll change it and have the peace of mind and updated looks too. On another topic, what is a good reading for a compression test? My YZ250 was doing over 200psi when fresh but I'm guessing these are a bit lower.
  18. Hi All, I seem to have read somewhere that the ignition covers with the attached sprocket guard allow water in. Can I fit a later version (06>)?
  19. Hi It's the same at 450cc's. From what I can see they have evolved rather than big changes each year. Well, upto 2010 anyway.
  20. Hi All, I just finished watching the Ryan Young DVD. Wow, much better than I expected. You are bang on about his methods and explanations. Really gives you the feeling that this is do-able! I have to say that Ryan makes it look easy, but you just know it's not!!! I'll be watching this again and again!
  21. Hi All, Thanks for the advice. Paul: I did think about putting in petrol to break down the old oil but wimped out. Others: I'll just run it on Saturday for a few hours and then dump the oil again. I'll do this until it comes out clean. I'm pretty sure there is no water leak a the coolant is not going down. That said the water could be from it sitting for a while as the previous owner said he used it 4 times in two years.... This gets me thinking about the thread with the rusty mains bearings. Fingers crossed. By the way, What's the best method for emptying the oil as it seems to fill the sump guard.... John
  22. Hi All, Recently, last Wednesday, bought a 290 and just got round to looking it over etc. Condition is rather good for the year with a few oddities. Coolant - OK. Plug B9EG???? - changed back to Std. BP5ES. Clutch Sticking - standard it seems... Air Filter - got bits of leaves etc. in the sock and appeared to be dry? - Cleaned and Oiled, washout airbox too. Then I thought I'd drain the oil and check the clutch. What a pain! Easy to remove the bolt but then the gooy cloudy pickish and light tan oil creeps out slowly onto the skid pan and runs everywhere. Quickly, tilt the bike to try to direct the slop. It takes 20 mins to empty and then I fear the worst as I whip off the clutch cover. Clutch looks fine with no notching of the basket tangs but covered in the thick goo. I clean off what I can and re-assemble. Then comes the slow pouring of oil into the tiny hole that they call a filler. Will be using a 100cc syringe next time. It'll take a few oil swaps to clear this gunk out of the gbox. My main worry is the colour of the goo that came out? Any ideas or seen this before? Thanks in advance! John
  23. Hi Dave, Junior is a level not an age rating..... Everyone over 16, I think, starts in the Juniors. Some stay there for a long time. That'll probably be me as I don't really have the do or die attitude you need to keep up with the kiddies, and I've only been doing it for 10 meetings. the Trials bike is part of my plan for improvement!
  24. Hi Rich, Pete, Thanks for the information. It seems I'm well blessed. Probably see you soon then, I'll be the wobbly one with the huge points total.
  25. Hi Pete, Thanks for the advice! Where is the best place to find out about clubs in the Dudley Area?
