  1. As it says, dropped on a new barrel and piston in the tlr tonight, got it all back together and fired up.. Sounds lovely, admiring my handy work with bike purring in background and notice on the old head where barrel meets bottom case that I dowel pin stayed on old head. Looking through manual, it appears there should be three of them. So probably my only has two now.. Any one tell me what exactly they do? And if I can leave it for a while with no risk of damage?...     Tlr 200 Noise

    Hi again.. I'm just about to tear into the top end to replace the valve stem seals. As suggested in my other thread. Whilst I'm in there It would be sensible to check all possible. Engine runs lovely just smokes white/ bluish until warm. I have noticed that after just starting from cold the engine is really quiet and develops a ticking/knocking noise as it gets warmer I assume because the engine oil gets thinner so can't suppress the noise. Any suggestions what it could be or is this normal? Ta Aj

    Bar Rises

    Hi guys got a 250 2998, I'm 6ft, going to rise the bars up as I feel that I'm loading the grips too much under normal standing position. I have a tlr 200 Honda and I love that position. The bars are about 80mm higher and the foot pegs 30mm higher, so I make that a foot peg to bar about 50 mm. I'm thinking of getting some rises made for about 40 or 50 mm. This seems like a lot. What do you tall guys run.. Ps had my second tral today what a top bike I love it. Cheers

THanks for the reply, just got in from the garage. it looks like a combination of two things. one the gearbox was short on oil!.... and had run all to one side leaving the clutch side dry... replaced & drained twice... removed the exhaust and a large amount of black petrol ish liquid drained out...probably a cupfull... most evaporated sop was fuel.. piston lookes good through exhaust port.. hoping that the very low oil has nt damaged the engine... all sounds and runs sweet.. cheers...
  10. Guys help... Was just prepping lads and my bike for tomorrow. The beta rev 50 is really tight / stiff to kick over. Really tight. it will turn over but is tight. Bike was fine when put away, and has just sat for three weeks on side kickstart. Did wash the bike before putting away, but this was a light was and was started and run afterwards Any suggestions much appreciated. Ta
  11. i have been told that most cheaper aftermarket seals use nitrile rubber, the oe parts are viton.. a far superiour material for this use... therefore if the ebay ones are viton they may be ok.. i have just ordered all original honda parts to be on the safe side it was only a few extra pounds anyway.. cheers andy
  12. The engine had a full rebuild two years ago and a ring and noisy bearing done recently. The previous owner does not know if they were replaced then or not. So let's assume not. He's still digging all the receipts out for me. I will order the gasket set and genuine seals tomorrow. I can't see it carb related as its a white blueish smoke, and smells like its oil. Carb/ air filter issues normally on four stroke make running rich therefore I would expect discharge to be black smoke...correct? Will have a read of the manual tomorrow. Cheers

Cheers. for the reply . a good place to start then. will it be ok to use in the meantime? or is it causing damage? i will have some spare time in a few weeks but would quite like to get out on a few trials first.. is it possible you could list all the items required for this works.. whilst i can use a spanner I think i may just get all the parts and get some assistance . I have a manual, and whilst my mechanical skills are ok, I strip and rebuild forks and seals, ive never had an engine to bits apart from adjusting some tappets on my triumph spitfire 1500!.. Is this something i could tackle myself? or is it beyond my skill sets.. many thanks Andy
  15. Have just acquired a nice tlr 200 1983. It has had some work already complete. Powder coated frame, fork angle, foot pegs, steel clutch plates etc.. The engine was rebuilt with new rings and bearings late last year, have receipts. The engine sounds sweet, starts first kick but does smoke a little, say giving it a few revs from a tick over and for a few mins from starting cold. Could anyone give me a nod in the right direction? Is his normal for an older bike, or assuming the rings and piston are good, then I'm guessing might be the valve and seats? Many thanks

Yes we thought it rather anoying that the the first obstical into the set throws most riders, (other than BOu) last week there were a number of sets where all apart from Bou didnt even make it .. we got a bit annoyed, and started wondering why dont they make the hard item the last in the section?? that way us fans get to see the stage ridden rather than failed at the start. Common sense really..

    Golden Year

    interesting topic... why is 2008/9 considered to be better than 2010-11. surely each year manufactures improve on the year before? unless its a complete re design of bike, but surely the testing is done to ensure its an improvement. i imagine if a new engine is fitted that has a consistant part faliure across riders bikes say like beta stator issues i keep reading about then that model year would be percieved as naff.. but one would think they sort it for the 2nd year of new model? Andy
  21. have been out on the bike at the local trials practice club today... spent some time adjusting it to what felt good to me.. clutch, levers, handle bar positns etc etc.. was first go on a trials bike other than the garden. and im coming from enduros on a 250 xc 2 stroke.. spent day climbing some sandy hills, attempting some sections in woods and sand banks.. what a lovely bike, lovely smooth power, got the clutch adjusted just right, seems to balance and turn with ease. I had a great time and couldn't be more pleased with the purchase. managed to do some sections feet up and did way better than i thought i would.. great stuff Sherco!
