  1. I have been using PJ1 oil. It is a clear goldy colour whan fresh The image below shows after no more than 3 hours riding in one day. In total the oil was in the bike 2 days Near the center of the bowl you can see a drop of fresh oil that i put in to compare the colours It was a guy in a well known bike shop that advised the oil and petrol mixture, is this realy a bad idea? I thought that it would be safe in the gearbox

    Vin Check

My frame number starts with VBNS129TR6 From what I can see on the internet, all Sherco frame numbers should start VNBS129TR6 N and B wrong way round Could this be a print error at the factory or is this normal. As i do not know the registration number of the bike, Is there a way of checking up on the bikes history just from the VIN? I have done a search on google, but every where wants the reg number aswell as the VIN.
  3. Might be a little far for you I have been out on the bike today for 2-3 hours, then done an oil change when i got home. The oil is a dark grey colour. Does not look to have any water in it as the colour is nearer black then white. I have left the old oil in a jug in the garage, i will let it settle over night and see if there is any water on the top of the oil. Any ideas what the problem could be? I have been advised to drain the oil after me next ride (hopefully in the morning) then if it still looks dark, put 200ml of oil mixed with 100ml of petrol into the gear box. Run the bike for no more than a minute then drain and fill up with gearbox oil. The added petrol is suposed to clean the gearbox out. Anyone else heard of this method?
  4. DONE!!!! But i dont want to get too excited just yet. I put it all together (good tip with the grease- the washer did not budge ) and started her up. Left the bike ticking over for no more than 2 minutes and no coolant came from the 'weep hole'. So thats a good start! I will get the bike out this weekend for a couple of hours, then back home for an oil change. I will be sure to update you then. Any of you guys go to 'Bumpy' near Leeds? Thank you all for the help and fast replys!!!
  5. Thanks for the help I have now got all the parts gasket 2 seals shaft Impeller I will probably come across as a complete retard now, but I do not want to get this part wrong. Here goes anyway, The seals..... from all of your help so far i believe that they go together flat end to flat end. To me that does not look/feel right. It looks as though the open ends should be together (I know they will not actually be touching once fitted to the bike). By open end i mean the side where you can see the spring clip. Could someone put me in my place please??? Cheers
  6. Thanks for the replys guys! I now have the bearing out, damaged it in the process so i will need to replace them. They're only about
  7. The bearings are stuck inside the casing, not on the shaft. How do i get these out without damaging anything. I think I have already scratched the inside of the bearings, so i am not that bothered about damaging them in order to remove them.
  8. I now have the water pump shaft removed from the bike and have noticed that it was not spinning freely. The impeller was catching on the housing of the clutch cover (where its seated). I have put up pictures of the impeller, casing and shaft. Should the impeller wear as much as it has done? I know its only a photo from a mobile phone, but does the shaft look too worn to be serviceable? Is the casing supposed to be worn like it is? or do i need to buy a new clitch casing? if so roughly how much?
  9. I ended up using some penetration oil, gave it a little tap with the butt of a screwdriver. Waited about 10 seconds and hey presto, off it came with a little wobble, easy!!! And no violence required
  10. Dont you need a real numberplate to get the bike through an MOT? Not just stickers with the in correct size and spacing, also, if stuck to the rear mudguard it will be facing into the sky! Just a thought
  11. I have drained the oil now and it looks like the seals have gone. The oil has only been in the bike for no more than 4 hours riding. But looks like its been in a lot longer. It is not a grey/ white colour, It is just off its usual goldy brown colour. Which with my small knowledge on bike mechanics looks like the seal is just weeping when the engine gets hot. Shercoholic, I was hoping that it would have been the overflow, but i am certain that it is coming from the 'weep hole'. I drained the coolant off and about 450ml came out (looks to be the same amount in the bowl as when i drained the oil) is this roughly the correct amount? on the Sherco website it says just fill it to the top of the neck. But i just want to know how much it should hold. Im in the process of taking the bike apart, following the instructions on the link STEVEC sent (thanks), but im stuck already getting the bloody kick start off. Allen key came off pretty easy, just cannot manage to slide the kicker off the shaft. I have tryed using a screwdriver to help prise it off. But i am more concerned that i do not damage the rubber seal underneath. Any hints or tips of this. God this is going to be a disaster!!!!!
  12. Thanks for the replys, i will be doing an oil change in the next hour or so, so I will have a better idea of what has gone wrong by the colour of the oil (only done 4 hours riding on the current oil, and non of them were in mud/water. So if it is milky, it has got to be the seals. The green coolant that was dripping onto the bashplate was only about a tea spoon full, over about 2 hours, and when the bike was very hot. Does this sound like the seals have gone/ are going? I am no mechanic, so dont realy want to take the bike apart if i dont have to Cheers
  13. I think the water pump seals/ shaft have gone on my 07 2.9. When i bought my 03 sherco in 2005 (2 years old, same age as what i have now. The shaft went on that aswell.... Do they only last about 2 years????) When the engine is up to temperature it leaks a very small amount of coolant on to the bash plate from the weep hole - sign of broken seals Gearbox oil was just off normal colour, but nothing to write home about. I was told that the main way to tell if the pump had gone was to ride the bike with high revs in 2nd or 3rd gear and it should sould like your pottering in 5th gear ( a juddering sound, without the actual juddering of using the wrong gear) This time the bike is not making these sounds, so it makes me think that it may not be the seals. Advice please? If i do have to do the waterpump fix i will probably have a go at it myself as I am led to believe that it isn't that hard of a job. Last time it went, I took it to Wadsworth to get fixed. I have looked it up on the internet and know roughly what to do (All should come clearer once i start taking the bike apart) My questions to you guys are Any hints or tips for this transplant? Apart from a shaft and 2 new seals what else will i need? Any sealants? bearings? special tools? etc...
  14. I used to wear fly racing MX pants for trials. but they where binned when i sold my last bike. What do you guys wear, other than trials pants (far too tight a look for me!!!) I am thinking of just getting another pair of mx pants, but there so expensive!!! ideas....?

  17. I have recently bought a trials bike after a 2 year break. What do you lot think about neoprene fork protectors? I hardly see any trials bikes with them on, but they seem like such a good idea. Hebo make sum for around
  18. YSB... What do you mean you dont want people like me as a member???
  19. I may only use it 3 times and that would only be for a couple of hours each time. So
  20. I live in Leeds, but will be in Scarborough most weekends until June this year. Where is a legal place to ride in/ very close to Scarborough. I do not want to join a club out there, just want some where to have a play. Cheers
  21. I have just bought an 07 2.9 after a 2 year break. The last bike I had was an 03 2.9. My little problem is that i cannot find anywhere on the internet- RYP, Sherco USA, Sherco Europe etc etc... how much gear box oil to use on a change. Is is 450ml same as my 03 model? Cheers
  22. Thanks for the replys guys. Whats the lowest power of the LWB is it the 75PS or the 90PS I cant remember if its just 90PS and 110PS that are available in the LWB and 75PS, 90PS and 110PS for the SWB Is this correct? Ryan
  23. Thanks for all the replys. I am only 22 and selling an Astra VXR to buy the van. It will be my main form of transport. I decided on a van as i want to buy a house within the next year or so that will probably need a bit of work doing on it, so the van would come in very handy there. I will also use the van for carrying a trials bike. I used to have a trailer, but i dont have anywhere to store one now, and after one summer of using a tow bar rack i have been well and truely put off them, so a van is the only real option. As im coming from such a fast car i would like a fast ('ish) van. The 2 seater part is not realy a problem for me so i wouldnt like that partner 5 seater. Thanks for the idea anyway Even if a van is second hand, is there still VAT to pay? what about when i come to sell the van, will i have to pay vat? and if so, how/who do i pay? (i am not self employed) Cheers Ryan
