I just hope they did a good job and the knocking sound has stopped. seem good so far though.

Took my bike to DMS trialsport today.
They said there is nothing wrong with my engine! He did not leave the bike long enough to warm up to hear the knocking, but said if it was out sereous it would be doing it from cold.
He said that the cause of the knocking could be the fuel i use! Esso ultimate (?) (expensive esso one)
He also asked if my fan worked, he said the overheating could be causing it.
how much should a new fan be?
Does all this sound logical to you lot????
I have left the bike with them as they are doing the fork seals for me (

My dad, an ex-petrol tanker driver recons it would last for a very long time (months, maby years) without deteriorating.
The gas build up is just evaporation and not like fizzy pop where it looses its fizz, if you get what i mean
If you also premix your oil, be sure to give it a good shake again if it has been stood for a while
Hope this helps

The Bikelug twin does look a very good well built trailer, i saw one at the rossendale show last week. And from what i have seen bikelug are the only company making a twin colapsable trailer, at the moment.
I have seen a few single bike trailers that could easily be modified to carry 2 or even 3 TRIAL bikes without breaking its max load, so i think i will have to take this route
Thanks anyway

Thanks,
Im not rebuilding the engine, i would not know where to start
but i am goint to be taking it to a shop to have the problem diagnosed this weekend hopefully.
The bike did not make any noise (that i can remember) when i bought it. I have only used it for about 14 hours (1 hour, 7 hours, 6 hours)since i got it over 3 weeks ago and the noise has gone from only noticable in the high gears at high speed to low gears and low speeds. Even a blip of the throttle when the clutch is in produces this tapping sound
I used the bike for 1 hour 2 days after i got it (cleaning air filter first) and noticed the noise then.
I have since changed the gearbox oil and that made no difference, made it worse if out!
Cheers

thanks Kinky, i am going to be getting the engine rebuilt so if i can afford it after that i will have them done at the shop, if not i will be doing it myself, brobably take a few attempts but will get there evantually!
I like the WD40 tip!

what are the common engine problems with the 290 and how much to have them fixed.
Particuallary interested in tapping sounds (like an old diesel car engine) when revd, it does not do it when just ticking over
any one had this problem, bike rides 100% otherwise, no loss of power or out

I dont want this to look like im snapping anybodys head off, but
at 16 you can do CBT and ride a 50cc moped restricted to 28mph
at 17 you can automatically move up to a 125 with no more than (14bhp if i remember correctly- around that mark anyway)
also at 17 you can do your bike test which will allow you to ride a bike up to 33bhp for 2 years (although you cannot buy the likes of an aprilia RS125 and derestrict it, it will only be 33bhp when derestricted but it will exceed the power to weight ratio!!!) after the two years you can ride any size bike.
At 21+ if you do not already have a bike licence you will need to pass your CBT then complete either your 33bhp test and ride restricted for 2 years, OR do your Direct access which will allow you to ride any bike.
I passed my 33bhp test when i was 17 and bought a TTR250, when i was 18 i bought an SV650S which i still have now (im 19 at the moment)
Hope this helps

My right fork seal went on saturday, and the left looks very corroded and about to go. As a complete spaner monkey novice, how do i go about changing this.
I once did it on a CG125 and made a complete mess of it, first off i could not get the seal to sit properly next i could not get the same amount of oil in both legs. Yes i did empty them both and poor in same amount, but they just dint stop at the same level. But i did it off my own back and did not ask for help off anyone.
So i want to do this one right. Anyone know where i can get an idiots guide to do it? Oh yea its an 02 sherco 290
Thanks

Thanks for all the help. My mate (nyawton) is now going to be buying a bike so we need to buy a twin bike trailer which still folds away. The bikelug twinbike trailer is hugh when built up, a lot wider than my punto. So that one is a big no. But for a single bike i think it would be perfect.
So the hunt is on for a twin trailer second hand or new, just not silly money (

WoW!!!
I struggle with basic stuff, what he is doing blows my mind, how the hell did he do that, i could only just ride up that with two wheels!

cheers, i will try to get down on saturday, will be in a black fiat punto with the blue/yellow sherco on the back. I will probably just wait at the gate and follow some one in. Just hope its a sherco rider!

Thanks for the replys, my bike is a 2002 (i think, but it has 2003 graphics)
This is start of frame number VNBS129TR2
I will try to get down to post hill, i know i wont be able to ride there as im not a member of a club YET!, but would some one who has the same bike be able to take it for a spin and let me know what is wrong with it, if anything at all?
secondly, how do i get into post hill, will the gat by wickes be open? where do i go when i get inside?
Thanks
Ryan
PS will anyone else be going to Bumpy this weekend?
-
hi.
Is there anyone who will be at Bumpy this coming weekend 24/25 september?
Or is there anywhere else locally to west leeds that someone will be riding at?
Because i would apprechiate it if some one who knows a bit about the sherco 290 would take a look/have a ride on my bike, to basically check it out for me. As i am a complete novice and am getting paranoid of all the noises coming from the engine, particualary a knocking sound! could this be the bottom end on its way out?
Cheers

cheers.
I have a white throttle tube (bit on handle bar) I found this out today as i had it in bits. Throttle would not return so i just cleaned it all out and lubed it with general houseold oil.
I have heard about the cable tie trick, but i am going to leave the bolts in and put a leather strab between then, going over the guard to make a handle to pick the bike up

Thanks,
It seems that everyone has their own way of doing things. I will just have to try everyones technique and see which works best for me.
Thanks again

Montman: I have been told that an average small car can only hold 75kg on the towbar, so weight of bike + rack will be well over 80kg, do you have any pix of the bike on the back of the uno? not that i dont belive you, i would just like to see how the car copes with the weight.
Also that mono trailer looks ideal, any ideas where i could get one?
Thanks
Ryan
-
I drive a fiat punto, and have been advised that is will be dangerous driving with a 70kg+ bike on the back plus the weight of the rack. So i am going to have to buy a trailer, but i have knowhere to keep one, well, i have a space about 2M x 1M. So, i need a trailer that will fit in there, but still carry my sherco 290 safely.
Anyone got any ideas, other than buy a bigger car!

Wow.

Hi
I have bought that 290 i was looking at. I love it, had a little play on my street when i got home and we have fallen in love!!!
would you lot please help me with a few little problems i have?
First off the clutch sticks for the first time i put the bike in gear when its cold. I need no push off then when moving put it in gear, after 30seconds the clutch works as what i would call 'normal'. Do all of your bikes do this? or is something wrong with mine?
secondly where do i buy that little rubber seal which is on the cluth lever? Just where the piston enters the reservoir. How much roughly will it cost and is it as easy as it looks (remove adjuster nut and pull it off?)
Now general stuff.
What fuel do you recomend that i use, eg shell or shell ultimate? And the guy who i bough it off used putoline fully synthetic, shall i carry on using this? Is it just normal bike oil or special stuff for trials?
What do you use to measure out your oil/ fuel and what ratio?
Any other points and tips to help me on my way???
Thanks for looking
