    Seat

Have a look on the France trial classic website. Some of the Bultaco seats on there look like slimline ones.
  2. So your 183 has the 27.5(ish)mm pipe where the middle box joins it? If that's the case i'll start making a new flange for the front pipe then offer it all up and see what else needs doing.
  3. I'm not sure if the clubfoot belongs to the bike or is the other half of the 250's exhaust. They do fit together though. The inside diameter of the end of the middle box is 32mm and looking back through it to the perforated tube it looks quite unrestrictive. The pipe into the clubfoot is only 27.5mm diameter and it's joined by a 50mm long tube on the inside of the middle box and on the outside of the clubfoot. To me that seems a bit restrictive.Any idea if these are the smaller or larger size pipe? If it helps the clubfoot has 13717-043 stamped on it ( might not be a part number though ).
  4. There's probably something in the Italian connection. Some "insiders" think Cal has more potential than Dovi ( i know Dovi's doing better ) and Cal had a verbal agreement to sign with Ducati and was told it was hours away so why the change of heart by Ducati? Can Dovi take any sponsorship money to Ducati or did he settle for less money than Cal?
  5. Cheers Woody , thought that might be the case.I'll probably make a new flange to fit and cut the pipe where it joins the box with a very thin cutting disc to change them over.As i said the pipe isn't restrictive but do you know if there is any difference in the system inluding the "club foot" silencer between the 250/350 other than the flange? Don't wont to go to the trouble of sorting it out to find that it strangles the motor.
  6. Having recently opened up the "middle box" to replace the perforated tube and repack i thought i'd have a minor dry build to check the fit and see if i could improve what looks like a slightly loose fit to the silencer. So crankcases and barrel in the frame i offered up the pipe to the barrel to find the stud spacing on the exhaust flange and the barrel are different! The holes on the flange are 51mm between centres and on the barrel they are 57mm.My bike ( a 191 ) was a box of bits when i got it and was missing the top end .The barrel i've got is a 325cc one,i think off a 183,and it has the 159 stamp on it.I know the previous owner bought the bike as one of a pair with his mate and wonder if the exhaust was off the other Sherpa.I did think it might have been off a 250 but the diameter of the pipe does match the casting on the barrel. It wouldn't be difficult to engineer a solution, just wondered which bit's wrong.....any ideas?
  7. Add con-rod kit to shopping list then. Can anyone recommend engineers who specialise in crank rebuilds? there are some engineers locally but not sure how much two-stroke experience they have.
  8. Can't add to the above but having read it i thought i'd check out the price and availability of the big-end etc for my 191 while i'm preparing the crankcases.Con-rod kits listed by Bultaco UK and Sammy Miller for £110 and £156 respectively but i also found the France Trial Classic website which listed just the Big end bearing for 30 Euros! The question is why do they sell these on their own? presumably you'd need to replace the crank pin and thrust washers as well if they were available seperately .Are there service limits for the con-rods?
  9. My sentiments exactly....wouldn't mind betting the race commentators gloss over all that though and will tell us that everyone wants to see Rossi on a "competitive" bike again......or maybe just one thats easier to ride!
  10. Cheers all. If i can lose 17kg the weight wont be an issue!
  11. I've been riding / practicing on my nephew's '97 JTX 250 Contact while i'm rebuilding a '77 Sherpa 350.Obviously the Sherpa isnt going to be as competent as the JTX but we were wondering how much heavier it was.So does anyone know what the Gas Gas weighs?
  12. I realise it wont be as capable as a "modern" mono but we did wonder how much lighter things had got in the twenty years between the two bikes. 92.5kg!.......maybe i could lose the difference!!!
  13. With the 191 rebuild coming on slowly i've been out practicing with my nephew on his '97 Gas Gas ( JTX250 Contact ).We were speculating how much harder things might seem on the Sherpa and we were trying to work out how much heavier the sherpa is than the Gas Gas....so the question is what does a '77 191 Sherpa weigh in pretty standard trim ( ally tank, plastic mudguards ) ?
  14. Although the Rossi/Yamaha thing is a done deal it's not certain if he'll be able to take his crew with him.JB confirms Rossi asked him to go back to Yamaha with him but the the team hasn't said anything yet.In my opinion he'd be lost without him and may struggle if he had to get on with it working with the personnel the team supplies like everyone else has to.Check out Stoner's comments about VR's return to Yamaha.....It's brilliant and you'd have to say Rossi had it coming after the critisism that he and JB made about Stoner not trying on the Ducati!
  15. I'm with you on the Hayden thing and although i'm not Rossi's biggest fan you'd have to say he'd be faster on just about anything other than the Ducati. If the rumours Woody spoke about are true i'm really not sure how competitive he'd be without JB's input tho.
  16. I'd like to think Nicky Hayden got a decent rise as Rossi hasn't exactly shown him up has he! Maybe if Rossi thinks he's still got what it takes, and i'm not sure he has,he should put his money where his mouth is and offer to ride the Yamaha for nothing like Senna told Williams in '93(ish).One other thing...are the Italian fans still more into Rossi than Ducati? or would they treat him how they treated Ago when he left MV for Yamaha ( before he started winning on it regularly ).

    Rcvs Vs Crts ?

I can't be the only one who thinks Hondas offer to build ( and sell ) "production" versions of the RCV is a great idea.Apparently HRC say they could build as many as were needed whether it was 10,20 or 30!.Teams could buy them for about a million including spares backup and would have a bike faster than any of the CRT teams without having to spend on development. Some people are worried that Honda would have too much influence on Dorna given that they supply the Moto2 engines and about 75% of the Moto3 ones.I would suggest that it might spur Yamaha to do the same and perhaps it would help Suzuki if they knew they could generate income which they could put back into development of the works bike. When i used to watch GPs as a kid and when i was old enough to go and watch the British GP the grid was virtually all TZ and RGs and i don't remember anyone moaning about it.I'd rather see a grid full of prototypes than bikes with lower spec engines than some of the World SuperBikes. Discuss.........
  18. Cheers Woody, thanks for that.
  19. Just looking for another couple of missing parts for my 191 rebuild on ebay and found 199 ones. Are the inlet manifold and clutch assembly the same on these two models? If not what are the differences.
  20. Couldn't agree more. With the untimely loss of Marco last year and casey going at the end of this year Motogp will be all the poorer for it.At least here in the UK we have Cal to cheer on but with Valentino struggling it does make you wonder where the talent will come from to challenge the really fast guys.Do you think the 2013 motogp champion might be spanish?

    2012 MotoGP

Whatever's causing the Ducati's problem the fact is Rossi was the last Ducati to finish last time out,i can't help feeling if he'd got it to finish where Hayden did the commentators and pundits would be shouting about how great he was.Tony27 said his reputation as a development rider is taking a bashing, which i agree with, but it must be hurting Jerry Burgess' reputation as well.He hinted in a recent interview that Rossi might not be in Stoner and Lorenzo's league anymore, didn't seem a very positive thing to say.

I agree.I wasn't Rossi bashing, he's obviously very talented.I was thinking that if his stock hasn't fallen then Hayden's must have risen! Ducati aren't benefitting from the extra money they pay Rossi above what Hayden gets appart from the publicity, which is a double edged sword.

Is it just me or is anyone else wondering if ducati regret signing Rossi?
  24. I don't think the pistons are different because i was told that the 325cc barrels could be bored out to take the 340cc pistons and their oversizes. The porting must be different if the timing is so i suppose the position of the inlet and exhaust could differ as well.
  25. Just spoke to peter at Bultaco UK today about pistons for my 191 and as i'm in the process of sourcing a second hand barrel for it i asked which ones were compatible. The barrels on 159, 183 and 191 models are the same but the timing is different on the '78 on 199,199A.
