  1. Can anyone recommend some wider footrests that will go straight on with minimal modding. Seem to remember something about KDX but may of dreamt that Cheers
  2. Good ideas guys....the linings do have holes which i assumed were dust relief ports....for want of a better phrase, but they could indeed be riveted linings which could explain a lot. Wheel bearings seemed fine when checked earlier but good shout.
  3. PS I thought at one point that maybe the cable outer was collapsing, but noise originates from drum area.
  4. Thought I'd post this here rather than Monty section as most t/s's run drums. Bloody odd this. Front brake creaks when applied when stationary and the lever feels spongy. The drum lining isn't split which was my first thought. Stripped the brake down and still does it...bit of a strange one? When moving the brake works ok but is still spongy. Any ideas welcome no matter how bizzare
  5. PS what are you running on the back....43T?
  6. Thanks for the tips. I had a taper fitting sprocket before on something...could of been a Parilla kart engine? I ground a slot in that and that helped with removal.
  7. Hi guys, looking at my 247C it appears that the only clutch adjustment is at the clutch perch? Is this correct? many thanks

    247C gearing

Just started sorting the 'new to me' 1978 247C. Current gearing is 10/43 and feels a tad high. Whats the recommend gearing gentleman? Did fork oil earlier 190ml of ATF and now have some forks that actually move....not sure what was in them before, it was clean but must of been a lot heavier weight than the ATF. Brakes are in good fettle no wear on cams and back plates.
  9. PS tank is glassfibre....no steel tank under a cover.
  10. Well I bought that old bus, thanks for your help guys. Got her home this evening and on first ride around the garden Monty makes my Speedy feel like a Rolls Royce, but then the Monty really does need some setting up to be fair. The Monty feels like a generation earlier than the Speedy yet I think it could be a damn good ride once sorted. The 247's got a bloody tight turning circle and is physically a small bike for a 250...or 237 and the gearbox is to die for..sweet changes and neutral is super easy to find. Clutch is fine..a bit on and off but cable is old. Gearing feels too high...I'll check what she's running tomorrow. Matching numbers and one of later of the 247C run. Was owned by Roger Giles whom I believe rebuilt the engine few years back...I don't know Roger but I believe he was quite active in the Dabbers area twinshock scene?
  11. Land crab was Austin 1800. Top right there is a Cavalier Sports hatch or possibly Manta Hatch they both came out 1978.
  12. So it's a standard 'feature', do we know what years had the 'fat bars'? Many thanks
  13. Noticed some 70's Cota's have packing pieces wrapped around handlebar to increase the diameter. So why were the handlebar and clamps clamps odd size to the normal 7/8"?
  14. would of said "you lucky people"..... found this whilst browsing, thought I'd bookmarked it, then lost it and took me hours to find it again. A 'Which Bike' test of the 1978 Monty 247 which I now know was called the 247C, the 'C' standing for competition. So it must be suitable for trials I guess cota 1.pdf
  15. piccy of the acutal bike. Been told she had recent new crank seals, tyres are couple years old but servicable....engine rebuilds unknown?
  16. Are the brake hubs chrome lined like the Bullies?
  17. Been offered a Cota 247 1978......up on its toes, easy starter, good compression and running ok, sound clutch, no dragging....tidy but unrestored. I could trial this bike next weekend....if ya fussy yes you would strip n tart her up. I've had a short ride on flat grass and feels small and well balanced. What is the form on these old war horses? I know nothing about them....are spares still an issue....is there the equivalent of the most fantastic 'Mr SWM' Mr Matthews behind early Cota's offering support 'n spares? Cheers guys PS my normal ride is an SWM...the Cota felt dated but quaint against the Speedy which won't be going anywhere...the Monty would be more an curio purchase.
