  1. cheers zerorev ........................ looking forward to getting the ty motor back in one piece!
  2. Cheers Woody - that is reassuring.
  3. hello, anyone used them? my mate is rebuilding my ty engine and has sent cylinder off for a resleeve and new piston and crank for a rebuild and they are d r a g g i n g heels ..................... cheers Andrew
  4. Hi Ted - sooner you than me with that boat ride! pleased to read that the motor is in good shape ...... i'll keep feeding mine nice oil and keep my fingers crossed ....................
  5. Thank you; no more lockwire to the throttle! it is the domino one you describe (where as the domino on my endure bike has the screw down cover) I have left the carb end lockwired though. to try and prevent throttle jamming if dropped, I have cut the end of the grip and slid the throttle onto bar so you can see 5mm of bar end. I have then used a washer - slightly larger diameter than the throttle and grip - then made a bar end stop of bolt, washer, rubber tube then a nut so when inserted into bar end and tightened, the nut winds up then expands the rubber tube against the inside of the bar end .......... its worked so far!
  6. Hi Jimmie I underestimated the terrain; chalk and clay rendered wheels inoperable! it was so slick, sticky and plactic that everything jammed up, my wheels turned to near solid saucers and my boots turned to platforms. so, after the first section (0) everything wents tits up pretty quickly .......... didnt even finish the 1st lap - my riding comrades and I stopped and retired. took an hour to blast the stuff off the bike before it set. I hope that you got the forks sorted out in the end. cheers Andrew
  7. cleaned the bike to get it dirty again at a trial tomorrow. the deep clean included cleaning the brakes up, cleaning the chain, changing the oil, changing the coolant and checking everything over. I have a new 2t enduro bike which I have lockwired the throttle cable at both ends to prevent stuck throttle trauma, so i did this to the gas gas too. google earth tells me that the trial tomorrow is in a load of chalk. slimetastic :-]
  8. Thanks Jimmie. I'm with you on this ................. all of my bikes are without graphics! firstly, they get trashed through riding and cleaning and it seems sort of perverse to be paying for new graphics to advertise the manufacturer ......... the graphics can also date the bike as manufacturers seem to change them almost every year............. my 2008 road bike for instance looks a bit more 'stealth' without the graphics.
  9. no graphics on my gasser either; looks better in my opinion. I use the leonelli too, but I found that the stretchy lanyard was toooooo stretchy and would just eventually ping off and trash my knuckles, so I made up a non stretchy one using a nylon camera case strap............ this way it cuts out as soon as I chuck the bike away.
  10. I also use fully synthetic oils for engines and gearboxes. my ktm enduro bikes get new engine oil every 7.5 hrs and the gearboxes get new oil every 15 hours. My ancient van gets fresh semi synth oil every 5,000 miles. So, motors are well attended to. Chains on the other hand, aside from on my road bike, are sacrificial elements that together with brake pads, sprockets and tyres are on the bike for but a short time. Riding through the winter quogmyre here eats these consumable items and I have found that a lot of 'motorcycle specific' products are either inneffective or vastly overpriced - A well known brand of 'offroad' chain lube just doesn't compare to the longevity of chainsaw chain oil in testing conditions. My bikes are also worth 'big bucks' and they are looked after in that manner; I dont see how the use of different lubes on sacrificial consumable parts would suggest otherwise, which is what I assume you are implying? Must go - I have to get the ktm ready for the next mudfest: * two new tyres (maxxis it and michelin s12 xc) - these will last 15 hours * new oil/s (10w 50 castrol power 1 [fully synthetic]) - this will be renewed at 7.5 hours and 15 hours * new brake pads (gold fren sintered) - these will last a maximum of 7 hours * new chain (DID) * new rear sprocket (supersprox stealth) * new front sprocket (talon) - these will be renewed 3 times in the year. Like shovelling coal into the firebox. Forgive my semi rant.
  11. grease on the chain! noooooooooooooooo! grit will stick to the grease and wear your chain ........... I have found that gear oil is good for the trials bike and chainsaw chain oil is good for the enduro bike (low fling) ..............
  12. http://stores.ebay.c..._fsub=367442419 http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Product.do?method=view&n=2079&p=425233&c=215&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Base&utm_campaign=Grease&gclid=CPe2hZaVlrkCFVMPtAod6EoAGw I have been using this for a while now - top grease for all those wheel and chassis jobs. I also use the red rubber grease on inner tubes to prevent snake bite / compression type punctures. This is good grease for caliper pins too (the rubber boot doesnt rot)
  13. I use LHM (citroen spec - Liquid Hydraulic Mineral) in my clutch master cylinder, much better than ATF; makes for a light pull. For gearbox oil, I use castrol 10w 30 power 1 fully synthetic - approx 400ml, so it sits at about 1/2 way on the sight glass when cold. IMHO, putoline sucks (aside from the blue air filter oil) Sting - chill out yeah?
  14. Oh no; thats a gary glitter (sh*tter) - hope you have some good news in finding the bike - f*ck*rs.
  15. dont forget to grease the rim of the filter zipster ;-]
  16. fitted my apico bendy levers as recommended by matey Ted. Lovely bit of kit and highly recommended to you all. also changed the cheese philips head screws on the master cylinder covers for countersunk black alen head bolts from local bolt shop. 10p a piece and they wont mash up when trying to undo them (tried and tested on enduro bikes)
  17. Hi Ted - the ty engine is with my mate mark who is a brilliant engineer. he is putting right all of the wrongs that have been inflicted on it since 1976. I have been doing the same with the rolling chassis. its not being 'restored' just repaired, so it can be a reliable as it can be. hope that your trial went well matey. those little connect vans look good for everyday use and getting a bike in the back..............
  18. the engine is out of the ty and apart for rebuild by my mate up the road. turns out that the last (monkey) that ''rebuilt'' the motor left out the washers/shims on the clutch which created shed loads of play which in turn has knackered some bearings. I have a complete new (to me) clutch curtousy of a well known auction site, so this, a resleeved cylinder and a new wisesco piston and some mains and other stuff will hopefully see the motor good for a good few years. it will also then sound more like a 70's smoker than a fcuking dyke pump.
  19. After working on my workshop extension I rode my gas gas around the yard. walked into the house to make a cup of tea and looked at my engineless ty 175.
  20. try putting a carb rebuild kit in ............... fresh o rings will help with it running weak. check the air filter is good too. maybe check reeds are seated while you are there. my ty ran like poop till I did this.
  21. I rode a weekend trial with my gas gas and had a great time.
  22. see my earlier post - cut out the two stiffeners under the fender and you can bend it, twist it and still the cable ties won't break!
