  1. evening, as per title - does anyone use a dave cooper rack to carry thier ty about? many thanks.
  2. Evening all, I have had a look on the www., but I cant find the answer to this simple question.... what is the standard gearing on the 2005 250 pro? mine has 10 42 on it and wondered if that was correct or if it could be improved upon. Thanks Andrew
  3. thanks frogger! any chance of a close up pic?.......... or if you are in negotiation wirth k*i*g* and want to keep things low key I understand ;-] seriously though, a very good idea and something that might appear on my bike. The only down side I can see is that the rear fender will have to have all its fixings back rather than one centre fixing and two cable ties?. Should be ok though if you cut out the reinforcing ribs from the underside of the fender (I posted a pic of this in an earlier posting on this thread)
  4. http://moto-oil.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=141_144_182_200 this is a great site for cheap oil ........ castrol tech said to use power 1 10w 30, but the 40 might be ok. this is where i get my 2t oil from too.
  5. it also says use 550 ml of oil!
  6. the great oil debate! All I can say is that I have used castrol gtx in an old drz and it was fine and a mate used castrol edge in his adventure and the clutch slipped...... there is a difference between bike and car oils; friction modifiers etc. hence jaso and api classifications.
  7. it might make your clutch slip; I would drain it out and put some correct oil in just to make sure. my pro likes the putoline light gear oil (I prefer this over atf; makes clutch feel better)
  8. but the gas gas is getting more use at the moment!
  9. its a 400 - I have used it for trails, enduro, rallies and supermoto (with 17 inch wheels)............... nice smooth motor that likes to rev. I have hit 75 mph on some welsh fire tracks on it - so it likes to go!
  10. linky is working now............
  11. linky doesn't work ben. thats a car oil right? some car oils can make wet clutches slip ................. I know that some people use car oil in thier bikes, but I wouldn't. not worth risking it!
  12. I am suprised that ktm don't sell them; they sell everything else!
  13. not keen on graphics on any bike!
  14. I have used fully synth oil and it has been fine - as long as its bike specific........................
  15. My manual for the 2005 txt pro says 'engine oil capacity 550cc. (10w 40)' a previous owner has lined through the 550cc and written '400' and had used atf. I use putoline light gear oil and slowly slowly slowly top up until the level is halfway on the sightglass - when warm, the level shows full or thereabouts. Castrol tech said to use the power 1 4t oil at 10w 30. I use the power 1 2t oil and the power 1 10w 50 for my enduro and road bike and can't fault it, so next oil change on the gasser will be with the power 1 10w 30.
  16. I have already posted this in the 'what did you do .............................' but thought it should go here too. my 2005 de-graphiced pro. nom-nom.
  17. putoline light gear oil for me. much better clutch over atf.
  18. today I practicedpracticedpracticed and am getting kind of good at riding in circles at full lock and getting around tight spaces in my back yard............ even to the extent that mrs shipdamite was called to watch one particularly tight 'section' outside the back door. This, fellow gassers, made me grin quite a bit Handgrips - a few years back I trashed a throttle by changing the grip whilst the throttle was on the bike..... so I now take the throttle off to change grips................ even using a smaller diameter push-bike grip can be put on with no lube/air/multiple swearing. if the grip is fairly stiff, warming in a mug of boiling water works a treat and the grip floats on.... The use of cycle grips - as i have recently discovered - negates the need for grip wire and they can be bought for £2. All the best to those with broken bones and broken bikes. cheers.
  19. Hi Jimmie - yes. of course; distance allows several to use the same excuse with little fear of plagerism (sp?) !!...................
  20. Looking for new grips on the tinterweb closely coincided with doing some grocery shopping at the evil empire (tesco) where they had some good looking grips for cycles at £1.99............... they ended up in the cart and the next day they were on the gasser! A bit of a snug fit on the throttle side, but they went on with no heating/silicone/etc ...........a good find. I have almost given up cleaning the bike as shyted's bike is an unreachable benchmark. The LHM has been a fantastic hydraulic fluid for the clutch lever..........................
  21. or is that a waterpump seal failure??
