  1. I use the putoline in mine. previous owner had used atf and the clutch was terrible; much better now. spoke to castrol tech people yesterday - as I use castrol for everything else on my bikes - and they said that power 1 10w 30 (for 4 strokes) would be a good alternative. gonna give that a go next.
  2. are they just made of 'normal' plastic? why on earth did they make them in a material that would melt? the only non metal material I have seen on exhausts before is carbon fibre (ackropovic).......................... The c.t.c retro-fix isn't a cheap one. Does it have to be left on the exhaust, or can it be dispensed with?
  3. Thanks everyone, all of your comments have been really helpful - its also reassuring to see that its not as straightforward for others either!............. I will walk the section first, familiarise myself with it, get to the 1st section first and ride it last following the line made by others............ sounds like a plan.........
  4. Hi all, my first trial was taped out as one course, i.e there weere no options for easy, intermediate, expert. The couple of trials I have been to watch and the course layout looks confusing - lots of coloured markers and none of the routes appeared overly clear to me. My first trial taught me that I have a shed load to learn and get my head round, so the added confusion over where it is I am supposed to be riding is not helpful! Any useful advice or pointers please? Cheers Andrew
  5. the manual says set to a max of 3mm. Not sure if your year of bike has oil or brake fluid in the clutch master cylinder.......... mine is oil and I use LHM (liquide hydraulic mineral) which is available from halfords. IMO, it makes for a very light clutch lever. If you are finding the clutch lever a bit 'soggy' and hard to feel where the play is, it might need bleeding (or if the master is weeping, a master cylinder repair kit, which is easy to fit)
  6. might be worth popping the exhaust off to have a look up the exhaust port to see what the piston looks like first? This has happened to me the once but lubing the trottle cable with silicone spray fixed it.
  7. Hi Kev, I bought my 250 pro 5 months ago, I then joined a local club and have done my first trial (5th from last in an entry of 138) and quickly realised that it is far harder than it looks and is a million miles away from what I do on the ktm exc. But............ it is addictive, great fun and less expensive than anything else on two wheels to take part in. The best advice that I have been given so far is to practice slow, tight riding and turning............ practice slow tight figure of 8's in the garden.......... I am just getting to the point where I can sometimes do this on fullish lock. 2nd trial hopefully in a few weeks. I have found that getting the clutch set up right and using a slow action throttle is a big help. certainly swearing less at myself, so I cant be ****ing up as much as I was
  8. I have managed to post some pics..........
  9. And a pic of our new club sticker made by Christian at Crispy Designs (the club is so new, we number 3 in total ;-] .....)
  10. Thanks to Andy for sorting the pic posting issue I mentioned earlier.........
  11. Hopefully this will work..................
  12. I would if I could Neilh - I will glady email to you?
  13. I have never really been a fan of graphics on my bikes and invariably they get peeled off or plastics with imbedded graphics are replaced for plain ones. This, together with the fact that the graphics on my gasser were curling up at the edges and that I like the look of the unadorned bike in the owners manual, resulted in me removing the graphics from the bike today. A hairdryer and brake cleaner helped the removal and a polish up with silicone spray rejuvenated the plastics. The tank has also been stripped and polished up. I am pleased with the way it has turned out - it emphasises the shape of the bike. Does anyone else have a 'naked' gasser?
  14. Good luck with getting the knee properly healed!
  15. Ben - yes; as I mentioned in the other clutch thread............ a dremel would do this. cheers - Andrew
  16. ah, right, ok! - in that case, could you 'chain drill' with a small bit to form a slot to get a blade screwdriver in there? or is there no space for that either?? Not just a problem for the clutch; seems like gas gas like to use alan screws everywhere - I had to fit a new sump bolt yesterday as the old one was mashed up.
  17. Ok. I have no idea what the bolt looks like, if it is recessed or proud, or how accessible it is............................. but if I have a head on something chew up and I can get to it, I will use a dremel to cut a slot in it so I can use a blade screwdriver - is this possible in this instance?
  18. Today I walked past the gas gas as the ktm needed its mot. it passed. phew. Then I walked past the gas gas again as I had to get the stihl out to ring up some wood. After that I had to go and see Ray to get some oil, then I managed to get the gas gas engine oil changed - I thought I would try putoline light gear oil (which is cheaper than the expensive nano putoline stuff) and if anything it is much better - better clutch action, less clutch noise and neutral selection is approaching normal bike normal..... and no creep. too good to be true? hopefully not. by this time it was dark, so head torch on and practiced some figure of 8's and going round on 'lock' circles. I have been able to avoid needless clutch pumping; been difficult though.
  19. As a newcomer to the Gas Gas............................what would I do? in no particular order: drop the oil and check the magnet on the sump bolt and put in fresh take out the spark plug and drop in a bit of 2 stroke oil and turn it over without the plug in take off the header and see if you can see anything bad in the bore best of luck Andrew
  20. Thanks BMSeven - thought I was going a bit radio rental.................
  21. hello! my manual says 50:1 which is ok with castrol power 1 but smokier with putoline strawberry trials stuff (last time i'll use that - smells like a pungent car air freshener, while the castrol smells a little bit castrol R - ish.......)
  22. BPR5ES is the oem plug. when I first bought one from the local motor factors they said it was the same plug used in an old vauxhall! very cheap, less than £3 if i remember correctly. the BPR6ES will run cooler and the plug will foul.......... assume that this will help create the smoke if everything else is ok.
  23. Jimmie said ............ 'I did go out to the barn, and after squeezing my clutch lever a few times, thought I'd chance a ride. I should have just hit myself in head with a hammer instead. I went for about 5 minutes, and rode over a stump I've done dozens of times. I didn't clear it this time, and came down on the skid plate. I now have a an expensive sounding clattering noise coming from the clutch side of my bike............' hopefully its a long lost nut/bolt or something...........
  24. so, when i next go to the shed to squeeze the clutch lever, what can i do to it to make it less 'on and off'........... I have set the free play to (a measured) 2mm, new master cylinder repair kit, new mineral oil and no air...... fully synth putoline oil (which in my opinion has improved things over the atf that was in it when i bought it)............ or is it just a gas gas thing? it must be kind of ok as i can get neutral with my boot with the engine running........... one i saw yesterday didnt look so user friendly........ cheers Andrew
