Excellent - Thank You very much!!!!

Hi, Does anybody know where I can get an exploded parts diagram for the above? A PDF version or something similar would be great....cheers. J.

I hate it when people have better ideas than I do!!!!
Nice one, think I may give this a try - although I'd be surprised if the 6 year old will be able to pull it...but we will see.....
Thanks for the photo...I suspect you will have started something here!!!!
-
charlie....i don;t suppose you have a digital photo???

Hi, The previous owner had made a go at moving the standoff point. It has moved the lever, but nowhere near enough. I will tap a hole in the fulcrum and adjust it accordingly but I have this feeling that the travel won;t be enough to then actuate the clutch. Hence I asked the question.
I may give it a go tonight if the Aussie Open tennis is bad.....

My son has just started riding a Beta Rev 50. He is a big 6 year old and a capable rider of autos...BUT... while he tries very hard with the clutch lever on the Rev 50, I'd prefer to get a smaller one.
Has anybody made this change and if so, what bike lever and post did you use succesfully?
Cheers. J.

How61....
I did as you suggested....worked a treat. Drilled out the rivets gently, tapped the holes in the steel endcaps 6mm, drilled the existing holes in the aluminium casing a little larger (6.5mm) to make it easier to line up the holes.
Finished the job with stainless spring washers and hex cap heads.
The packing that came out was dripping with yuch like u wouldn't believe.
Cheers

Anybody got any pictures (or ideas/advice) of a modern Trials bike set-up with racks etc for carrying fuel and or over-night gear?
We are just getting into Trials (in Sydney, Aus) and I'd let to be able to kit out a modern full size Beta or Scorpa to enable a longer ride overnight etc....
We can travel light if we do the ride in the summer here as its 16C or greater at night.
Cheers. J.

Rob, VERY VERY COOL INFO.....you should start working on KTMs too!!!! You wrote that just like a KTMTalk guru....
You da' man!!!!!
PS. Bought the bike from Dennis R up your way...nice guy.

How61...Our KTM Minis have much the same exhaust system and we change the packing very regularly (its easy to do) with Rockwool (very very cheap).
I'm glad you mentioned about tapping the holes 6mm. I will do that instead of the self tappers (I wasn't sure how much metal I would find when I opened it up).
Not sure about the silicon though, I'd prefer a proper fit but I suspect that will be pretty tough to do unless I made up a 'clamp or pinch' arrangement. Hmmmm...??
We run 40:1 mix in the KTMs, but they are screaming and get very hot, hence most stuff is burnt unless the engine isn't tuned right. I'm new to these 2T Trials bikes and as they don't get hot and aren't ringed out....I would think that I'd run:
Motul 600T (or 800T) at 100:1 ?
Maybe lean out the carb at the fuel screw?
Leaner pilot jet?
Leaner main jet?
Slightly higher idle?
Any comments?

Thanks Guys. I didn;t think there would be an issue...but you never can tell!!! I reckon it'll drop a kilo in weight too....the silencer is very heavy...I reckon its full of oil and water!!!!
I have a follow-up question too....the rubber seal where the silencer slips on the exhaust pipe is not tight and is not a very clever design. Do you guys just buy new ones....allow the oil to drip and ignore it, or have some other neat way of making the seal???
-
Guys...Has anybody drilled the rivets and then re-packed the muffler? I'm just about to do it, but was wondering if you get any surprises!!!!
I was going to drill the rivets and replace with 10G stainless self tappers....
OK?

I tried - but nobody offered up anything.

Hmmm...I had a dig around the web. That carb seems popular on mopeds. If you don't have an airbox on that Minitial, then I imagine they went that way for space saving etc and chose that carb as a result. Hence, a stupid metal gauze.
That KTM motor runs a 12mm or 14mm dell carb on it, but they use an airbox.
I'll ask some guys on a KTM forum if anybody has fiddled with you setup and maybe even converted to a diff carb (NOT THAT U WANT TO WITH A BRAND NEW BIKE!!!)

That engine is the one used in KTMs (altough I think originally it was used designed and built by Beta).
Anyway...I tend to think this is a carb issue...as a coupl of us have mentioned, float does sound likely. If the dealer is close, get them to swap the carb for a new one and see what happens (pain in rs i know).???
BTW. The oild that was spilled was probably the clutch oil used in the clutch oil bath (there isn't a 'gearbox' as such). That whine is normal - sometimes at high speed in MX configuration it sounds like a Turbo whine!!! I'm not familiar with that carb. The 12mm is used in low power air cooled Mini Adventure and a 19mm is used in the high power, liquid cooled, SX Pro Senior. That same 19mm is used in our Beta engined Beta Rev 50.
I'd be surprised if oil movement was causing such an immediate problem when lifted. If that much oil was getting through, it would be smokier than a brothel on a saturday night all the time.

I just need to double check something. Is this the Beta Minitrial with the engine now used in the small KTMs? do you have a pic you can post?.....you got me thinking when you mentioned the crappy carb....they run a 12mm delorto in the little ktms and in general, its ok for those bikes.
sometimes with say a loose main jet or something, the crank case ends up with buckets of fuel in it...causes the weirdest problems. i had a non-start issue that came out of nowhere....checked everything under the sun.....then left the bike for two weeks with the plug out (it was off-season so didnt matter). came back...squirted fuel in (didnt connect the tank) and kicked it...it fired and ran momentarily.
pulled the bowl off the carb and the main jet was sitting in the bottom. ie. the bike flooded with fuel flowing straight from tank into the chambers!!!!
you also mention oil all over the place? was it lube from the clutch out of the breather? or is this bike injected....confused now as you can tell!!!!!!

My thoughts/questions are:
Easyish stuff...
1. If the odd idling is after a LONG run down hill, then I'd be looking at the float and its free movement or setting. ie. temporary starvation?
2. Does it matter if the bike is hot/cold. If hot, you may find temporary vapour locks in the fuel line if the fuel line runs close to the barrel (it does in the KTM Mini Adventure which shares that engine - and this is common issue).
3. Are the jets tight?
4. Enough fuel in the tank? (exposing the fuel inlet tube)
5. Rubbish in the tank (it wouldn't be the first time a new bike came with crap in the tank!!!)
6. Inline filter a problem?
7. Water in tank?
Slightly trickier stuff...
1. Wiring chaffing or pinched somewhere?
2. Plug cap secure and HT lead correctly fitted to cap?
3. Crankcase fuel of fuel from lying on side at some point? IT HAPPENS!
4. Water/Condensation under stator cover and/or stator with faulty wiring? There is a test for this you can run with the multimeter. let me know...
Tricky...
1. Air leak on engine side of carb? (Ignition side crankcase seal has failed? Crank case centre gasket failed? Reed block or carb not air tight) Unlikely to be these though on a new bike...
When engine is warm and bike on level, does the bike idle nicely and not idle up and down whole sitting there?
Good luck

Does anybody know of an online store that it can be found on? I can't find a supplier in Sydney you see.

Am 44 (yikes).
Ride bikes quite a bit.
Probably after a 200cc+
Will be for play riding, following son about on his Beta 50 or club use (fun though).

Hi, I am a rookie and am starting to look for a trials bike. I want a latish model bike. In Australia we can choose from Beta, Scorpa and Sherco....bikes like Montesa, Gas Gas are rare here.
I am leaning toward a Scorpa SY250 with the option to put the Longride tank on.....but I am keen to hear what you guys think is a good bike from a build quality and reliability point of view. (I will maintain and tune it myself).
Cheers. J.

Assuming you are talking about the auto clutch Beta Mini Trial...then....
Join KTMTalk.com and go to the 50cc (Minis) section. The engine and exhaust system is exactly the same as the KTMs....I have three sitting in the garage! Alex, Ken, Flounder, Pit and the giys there will help you out.
In answer to some of your questions though....
Premix - run 40:1 Motul 600T or 800T - you can go to 50:1 easily. If you run a cheaper oil - go around 32:1.
The stock plug is the BR8ECM but many of us run the BR9eix to help cool the chamber as we run the engines fast and lean sometimes.
Keep your electrics away from the head and keep the fuel line away from it too.
Use 200mL of Dexron III grade ATF in the clutch (or Maxima MTL75). 150mL is recommended by KTM. but we run 200 to 250mL. if you are running in very hot conditions, add Two2Cool.
Change the exhaust packing. Use ROCKWOOL insulation (not the fibreglass stuff). Its cheaper than the KTM packing and works fine. You need to keep this changed regularly especially of run 32:1. The packing gets soaked with oil (or water) and reduces performance and response)
For engine parts go to PVK.cc or 50ccparts.com. Both are in the US and very reliable and know more than KTM about those engines. I usually deal with Ken at PVK.

Join the KTMTalk.com forum....go to the 50s part and lodge a question. you will get the answer there. There is nothing those guys don't know about the KTM/Beta 50cc Auto

Take it to the local m/cycle shop where they will use a press. Take the new one along and they will put it on for you. my local guy did it free of charge while i went for a coffee....
