  1. Appreciate your concern for my bank account.. My wife would be pleased. If you read through my second post you will see that the shock is in fact shot, and I am too heavy for it at near 200lbs geared up. I'm leaning towards the used Reiger. It's about half price over new and Stu from jacks cycles rebuilds them in the U.S.. Sounds like a good investment.
  2. I can get a TRP for $850, Reiger for $1100, or a used Reiger for maybe half that.. Or an Olle replacement for $350. Haven't priced the ohlins yet. All usd. My thought is I can pull it when I sell the bike and sell it separately to get some money back on it. So a bit more digging on the Reiger.. Looks like there are two versions.. One with rebound adjustment only and one with compression and some other advanced stuff. I believe the prices above are for the basic version that came stock on the race models. This has definitely been a learning process. Parts for these things are so much more than for a relative compared part for mx bikes. It just doesn't make sense to try to maintain em. Now I understand why people just sell em every year and buy a new one.
  3. I'm fairly obsessive about having good suspension. Spent way too much time trying to learn techniques on my mx bike that just weren't possible without good suspension setup. I know I could do a lot on a crappy setup but if I have my choice I would have a good setup from the start. My shock is the non-adjustable olle that comes stock on the Eco model. That and it's in bad shape, and has the wrong spring for my weight. It's my understanding they are not rebuildable as well. So buy another low spec replacement.. Or upgrade. Seems like a pretty clear choice to me
  4. Hi, I have an opportunity to buy a Reiger shock for fairly cheap. Will this fit my bike? Is there different models of Reiger for different years of the GG? Thanks!
  5. If this video doesn't put a smile on your face you have problems
  6. Hmmm, well like i said im going to stick with it as is for now, but there has been people that said getting higher bars was the best thing for them. Im thinking its probably a matter of preference. Ill try adjusting them back a bit and give it a few weeks. Ya, i ride a ktm xcw300, mostly desert single track and woods. Also ride a cbr1000 on street and track. the trials bike feels just as different as my other two bikes. I have been working on turns as well. The picture above shows the terrain around my house, and where the bike is parked is much steeper than it looks.. Like steep enough that getting up it on my ktm would be pretty rough. Its anazing how much traction these things get. Anyway ive been doing tight turns over that rocky steep stuff and its very tough to keep from dabbing. specially at full lock and then the front tire stops on a football size rock. Ive been experimenting with trying to unweight the front without the tire leaving the ground to get over em. I still dont have my basic balance dialed yet so its pretty tough to do. Im more obsessed with jumping over rocks at the moment but just because its fun. Every day i go out i learn something new. Thats beautty of it. I kinds plateau'd on the ktm so now its all new
  7. Btw, thanks for the effort Lucas. That is a good visual. Maybe I'm going from one extreme to the other and somewhere in the middle is a sweet spot Back to technique, I did get over some bigger rocks, about 30" tall Im guessing. The little ones were good for timing and front wheel placement, but weren't forcing me to do the second motion properly as they were small enough I could just thrash over em. when doing the larger rock I realized two things, I'm not shutting off the gas quick enough, and I'm not letting the bike go forward under me. So when the back tire hit the top of it I lurched forward. Ended up tweaking my back so I'm out for a few days, but I did learn a bunch in the process and am anxious to go out and try it again
  8. I wonder if anyone can tell me what the stock bar height is? I have no way of knowing that this thing hasn't been lowered. I'll get out to the garage and take a measurement
  9. Ok, well I'll be staying stock for a bit longer because after the bike and boots I'm still broke. What happens is after about 30 minutes my back and neck are killing me, so I start heading home with my knees bent. But thn my legs start burning. Maybe I'm just not used to using the right muscles. I'll keep with it for a bit. It does seem though if the bars were higher I could lean back farther to get my weight over the rear fender easier.
  10. A lighter trials helmet is on my list for sure. My mx lid feels like an anvil strapped to my head. Turns aren't too bad for a beginner. I can do full lock .. Well on flat ground. No one around here to ride with so its just you guys. I didn't have time to go out today but I'll try to get some more photos or video. Looking at the video up top of this thread, bars don't look too bad. They sure feel awful though. That and the brake lever is too high.. Doesn't appear that it's made for adjustment. Damn these things anyway! Despite the frustration, and extreme lack of skill, I'm really enjoying it. Hopefully I'll be ready by spring to go to an event and not embarrass myself on the novice line. I did make some progress on balancing today. Just did a garage sesh due to time constraints. I learned that if I start with the bars only halfway to lock, then as I step up onto the foot peg I compensate by going to full lock. This helped me a huge amount. I guess just the way I was stepping up was throwing me off. I was getting 20 to 30 seconds on concrete with normal tire pressure. Quite relieved as I was struggling a lot. It is heartening to know that most of these skills can indeed be learned with some determination.
  11. I'm not sure where the correct place to post this is, but the help forums seem to be locked. I'm having trouble staying logged in, using an iPad. The forum kicks me out every few minutes and I have to renter my login info. Very annoying! Sometimes it says I'm still logged on but I can't post anything so I have to log out and then log on again. Settings or tips anyone?
  12. I'm 6' even. I'm fairly convinced I need higher. Having trouble getting my weight far enough back because of reach, that and it is physically very uncomfortable to be on the bike for long because I'm bent over really far with my neck bent up to see. I can only find 15mm over stock for risers so it looks like new bars
  13. So after a few rides with the Sidis, I thnk they are okay but they do tend to have a folding point that pushes on the shin a bit. I'm thinking that's probably pretty common and hoping it goes away after a bit more break in. I did put some quality foot beds in and that helps a whole lot with any boot
  14. Actually made it past the staging area today. The more time i spend on the bike the more i want higher bars. I traded emails with lewisport and they only have 15mm over stock risers. Cant seem to find anything close to 2" or more so im thinking i might have to go with different bars. Did i mention there is a lot of rocks around here?
  15. Thanks bestrial! Great video and the slow motion helps a lot. It seems to me that when doing the db, more emphasis is placed on the front when compressing the suspension and jumping, where as on the JZ most of the rider emphasis is jumping off the rear. I like how you are at a stop before doing the move, this keeps it nice and slow. Im going to go out and give it a try in a bit.
  16. From others comments not too much. I haven't been in a creek with em so can't comment
  17. Thanks for the reply. Ok so i have a ktm300 and a cbr1000 and neither of them do anything similar. If you hold the front brake in and push back and forth you can feel a clunking and the front tire rolls back and forth about 1/2". Copy on themuffker and shock Im about 6'. The bars are very similar to the ktm low bend bars. Not sure if thats stock or not. It feels wrong to me to bend down that far but maybe thats correct.. Not sure. Ill try to get a profile pucture of me on the bikr
  18. Forgot to mention that the bars feel really low to me. What is the preferred method.. Bar risers, or a new high bend bar?
  19. Thats funny, i was thinking of a football player as a lineman... Maybe thats a linebacker. Obviously not my sport.. Now motogp... That i can talk about
  20. Hi, i just recentky recieved a 2009 txt eco 280, and this is my first trials bike. Ive noticed a coupke things that seem odd. 1) with the front brake locked up the front tire will rotate back and forth about 1/2". Upon closer inspection, it is the rotor which is rotating due to play between the fastener washer-spacers and the rotor bolt holes. Take a look at the video below. Is this normal or do i need a new rotor? The gentlemean that sold it to me informed me that all Models do this. Seems very strange to me as the bike clunks back and forth due to this. Please let me know. 2) there appears to be a bit of a crack in the weld where the exhaust silencer attaches to the mid pipe, presumably from being lifted by the silencer. Is this something i should be worried about? Ive got a bit of spooge leaking out of it. 3) the swingsrm will move up and down just a bit more than id like so i think the pivot bearings need replacing. Also the bottom out bumper on the shock is torn. Is this a simple remove and replace or is there something unexpected that I should be aware of. Thanks a bunch!
  21. Thanks for the tips Rob, yes i need to embrace the slowness! Another thing im thinking about is how you throw your weight when you jump. I think im trying to jump off of both wheels. Now that im analyzing it maybe it will work better to jump off of the back wheel only
  22. I believe it! I spent 30 mins on the bike today and im pretty sure i got a better workout than i would have on the treadmill
  23. Well i got out and gave it a go today. I still have some setup issues like the bars feel too low and the suspension bottoms too easily and feels too slow in the rebound.. Might need different springs. Anyway i went up behind my house and tried a few double blips. Laughing because it seemed like i was going so slow and looking at the video i think i was still going too fast. The second one was the best i think. I set the front tire on top of the rock even though i was aiming for the face. The on top technique feels more natural so i might concentrate on that for a while before i go back to bashing the face. Despite what ive read all over the place, i still wasnt ready for how foreign these bikes feel compared to a regular Dirt bike. The good news is balancing was much easier out in the dirt compared to my garage. Ahhh, the beginings of a new obsession
