Yes, as you say more road/trials. When pottering around a field or when actually on a trial it ran fine but i was being stingy with the oil I used but no more. I think I'll leave it at 130 then as I won't do any more prolonged full throttle runs.

Barrel had be re-bored and is now ready for re-assembly today. Just checked main jet in carb, 130. Is that correct? Neil
  3. Cases in the oven and bearings/crank in freezer
  4. Just found a supplier in UK who can supply one for £100 + post !
  5. Where from !!!!!
  6. Thanks, Those are great ! I have priced up replacing all the jets, gaskets etc. and it comes to 46 GBP (76 Austalian dollars). I recentley re-built a Bultaco which had the wrong carb on and replaced it with a new Mikuni from the same company, which works great. A new and ready jetted to suit the Montesa Mikuni would be £157 (259 Australian Dollars). Seeing as the one I have is getting on a bit I'm thinking of doing the same. Any thoughts? Neil
  7. Cheers, The bike doesn't run but has done briefly, split inlet rubber won't be helping. Trying to ensure the carburation is correct first. Neil
  8. Hi, Just giving the carb a good clean. It's an Amal L2627 410. The only info on the correct jets etc. for the 349 are for an L2627 216 and I have slightly different ones. Info taken from this site says; Amal carb as per MH359 manual Make;Amal type;L-2627/216 Mine; L-2627/410 diffuser diameter;27 27 Main jet;145 150 Low speed jet;20 20 Gas valve;no.4 ?? what's this ?? sprayer;107 106 position needle; 2a (2B1) Middle groove of 5 2B1 It looks like I can get all I may need direct from Amal uk. Should I go with what the manual says or stick with what I've got as it's a different model? The slide looks worn so I shall replace that. Thanks for looking. Neil

Barrel and piston are off and with My Motors in Redruth. He's seeing if I may get away with having the cylinder honed then I can go up a piston size. The piston itself just needs a rub over with some sandpaper and a polish, then it will make a perfectly good ornament. InMotion will want £175ish for a new piston kit. Ouch, indeed......You live and learn, I hope....

My local MOT station says the plastic tank is ok. Having cleaned out the tank and thoroughly cleaned the carb, it starts pretty easily. Definately need the de-compressor though. Could anyone give me some guidance as to what does what on the carb. It's an Amal L2627 410. There was a plastic tube that connected the 2 pipes shown under the AMAL names to the rear of the carb, one shows in 1st pic, but there is another on the other side, which was split so I have teaken it off until I can find a replacement. What does this do? I presume the screw pictured on the left is the slow running screw (?) and the one on the right is the tickover adjuster (?). Anything else I should be aware of? If anyone can enlighten me that would be a great help. Cheers. Neil

I'll have a chat with my local bike mot station. It's owned by Melroy Youlton who was pretty handy with Bultaco's and Montesas's, still trials to this day and will always be better than me !!! I'm juggling a few projects at the mo' and I'll report back as things come to light.

https://www.inmotiontrials.com/product/mikuni-trials-carb-complete/ Bottom end and crank have been re-built. Using original piston, head and barrel.

I'm a complete beginer so there's no danger of that. Will the plastic tank ( repaired with fiberglass) be road legal ?

Here's hoping the Honda hub is an improvement

I did say in my first post that when I tried it the next day it had compression and I tentatively tried to start it but it didn't quite catch. I'll try properly on Monday and report back unless you think I shouldn't ???

I can't really "like" this post as it doesn't bode well. I will report back, but I have an old vfr to finish before I get back to the Bultaco and I'd like to play a little with the Montesa as well. oh what a life I have !

Hi, I picked the Montesa up yesterday and I have a few questions. The frame/engine no. is 51M22445 there are definately not any lower frame rails. After a cursory glance it looks like the bash plate is just hooked on at the back of the engine and doesn't give any rigidity. Also, are the forks standard, is the fuel tank road legal, it looks like fibreglass, and is the carb original ? More pics to follow.

I am running 40:1 mix on advice from In Motion trials. I did an actual trial a couple of months back. All slow speed of course and it ran beautifully for about 4 hours without missing a beat. If only the same could have been said of me...

Timing is now electronic so nothing to mess with. I will whip the head off soon but have another few bobs and bits to attend to. One of which is pictured below.

Thought as much but good to hear from someone with more experience. I won't do it again. Will it have caused lasting damage ?
