What sort of MPG do people get from their Sherpa's? I'm wanting to do road trials and range could be an issue.

Thank you. I'm reliably informed by "in motion " trials who have the original docs and also vintage m/c club that is a 1976 model. Neil

Thank you for that. It's not my workmanship but as I bought it. I will get that sorted though. Cheers Neil

Timing had slipped. Why they don't put some timing marks on the flywheel I don't know. Put some tape on flywheel and crankcase and then used a cigarette paper to get the right opening point. Fired easily and ran until warm and ticked over. I stopped it and tried again and all well. I will see how things progress as there will be trouble with the seals at some point I'm sure. Thanks for all the advice.

Hi, Rain stopped so time to play. Just checking, Does everything look ok in this pic of the coil wiring. Going to check the timing hasn't moved since I set it first. It's been stood for quite a while and then used quite a bit of a week so I suppose it's possible the mains or the seals have given up. Is there a way to check this? Thanks for looking. Neil

If the rain subsides a little I'll try and re-create and film it. So many possibilities! Thanks for the help People.

Yes Larry, new points and condenser, re-timed and gapped. It ran beautifully apart from the fuel tank problem. I had to clean the carb out 3 times while on the trial and once done it started 1st or 2nd kick.

Spark plug is NGK BP 5ES which it ran well on before. Took the cover off and with plug out I can turn the flywheel and it turns the engine over.Should I take it off to be sure?

Stumped By My Sherpa.
All has been going well apart from paint from the tank clogging the carb. I changed all the fluids and put an inline filter in but now it won't start. Plug was oily so I assumed flooding and kicked it over for a while put new plug in and it started second kick. It wouldn't rev and was stuttering a little regardless of choke position. Suddenly it stopped. Kicked it over again and it fired briefly and stopped again. Gave it a few more kicks to no avail and pulled the plug. Really oily again. Any ideas? Cheers. Neil

How Should They Sound?
Halfords? Gosh no. I can only aspire to those dizzy heights. Most of my stuff comes from the car boot sale. Funnily enough there's a Scandinavian guy called Kev Larr there some times who sells underwear. I'll pop in and see what he's got.

How Should They Sound?
Have done the testing trial. All pretty good except discovered paint from the tank getting into the carb. Any good ideas for a clean and seal? Hey Billyt, check out the new helmet ! Can't be doing with gloves if it's not cold and not on tarmac

How Should They Sound?
Thanks for the advice. After 30 years of riding motorcycles I'd have never thought of that without you pointing it out. I take it my flip flops are ok ?

How Should They Sound?
Hi, Gave the Sherpa a run around today and it starts, from cold, first kick with choke on and no throttle. When warm it is wasn't so easy but didn't take long. Here's a bit of film I took. Please ignore the style and have a listen to the engine, I was told there was an engine rumble when I bought it and It seems to take a while for the revs to slow. Is this normal? I'm completely new to these beauties so riding blind. Any sharing of knowledge will, as usual, be gratefully accepted. Cheers. Netley

Worth Every Grazed Knuckle
Starts 2nd/3rd kick, oh joy. Thanks for the help and advice, really appreciated. I'd like to install a kill switch. Any ideas as to a simple way to do this? Cheers

Hi Just fitted new points/condenser etc. Kick start is not engaging? Obviously there's something amiss with the clutch. What have I refitted wrongly?

Following On From Sherpa Advice.
Phenomenal service from In Motion https://www.inmotiontrials.com/ Ordered just before 5pm yesterday and they arrived about 1/2 hour ago. Now, the flywheel looks rusty and possibly a little scored. Can I clean this up? also can the magnets mounted on the plate be "dressed" a little? Cheers Neil

Following On From Sherpa Advice.
Had a good run around a friends field today. Need to get a little practice as I've only ridden off road twice before as a solo rider. I do some sidecar trials in the chair of a 1950 Norton 500T but like the idea of having a go myself hence the Sherpa Purchase. It's now running nicely thanks to the new carb but is a little reluctant to start so I'm giving everything the once over as I'm booked on to the Launceston testing trial on Sun 7th Aug. Our first foray was Aug last year some of which you can see here, I have discovered a leak in the fuel tank around the front mounting point. Any advice on sealing this? I will take the tap off and clean it while I'm at it. Also the spark seems a little erratic(has new plug) so how can I test to see the cause? This could also be down to not owning a kick start bike since an MZ many, many years ago and not having"the knack". Thanks for looking. Neil
