  4. Hi I have just got a ty 250 that needs a bit of TLC. Engine gearbox clutch all good, Frame wants just a good clean but the wheels , hubs , and forks need a bit of work to make them look nice again it's a1976 V5 matching numbers and original in all ways apart from oil tank removed , its identical to the bike I brought new In 1976 and rode in the SSDT, What is the rough cost of re spoking the front & rear wheels or do people clean them up a bit rusty Thanks all.
  5. Petert, Thanks that has solved part of the mystery , I did think it could have been part of the problem the dvla issues this for regesteration purpose . No you have not muddied the waters, So it's looking like it is S M frame but there is no sign of the Sammy Miller frame No . Maybe it's under the riveted on plate which contains the Vin No. Thanks mate for your help Cheers.
  6. Do any one know if Whitehawk frames used the following I D, letters on there frames SABTVR followed by 11 serial Nos, this is a mystery as for years this was believed to be a Hi Boy Frame but not according to Sammy he said all his frames started with SM, so do you know of any frame maker who used these letters , S M Products say it looks like one of his and so do a few people , the previous owner was under the impression it was a S M frame and he owned it for 20 years, Any help will be much appreciated . Cheers. Ps The bike has a V5 with frame No starting SABTVR.

Hi Spen/Bill , I am thinking hard on this one , from the ground level to the top of the pegs is 16in I don't know what the 175 TY is, I am 6ft so there should not be a problem I just did not feel right , I sat on a bantam stood up and I felt fine , I know I could borrow yours but I could not do that & it is a great offer thanks. I will put a pic up later and u will c the problems with lowering them , Don't think the bars are the prob & it would not be right to butcher the frame. ( HELP !!!!!! ) ha ha
  14. Ha Ha Ha , brill time , the bug bites even more , I have stiff joints ! To be expected , what a great bunch of lads a pleasure to be in there company . NOW big prob , I am to high up on this hi boy frame got to find a way of maybe lowering footrests ????, or different bike, (Bantam) ????? 16. Thanks Whitehawk, I am sorry to say I know nothing about 175 Yamaha , yes it's a Miller hi boy ok I was looking for a lightweight pre 65 as I was brought up on & with British bikes but was unable to find anything but am proud to say I did buy a new 250 Yamaha in 1976 and rode in the SSDT and got my silver medal that was one ambition of mine years ago, This little bike had been stored for 20 years in a barn , the guy brought it for his daughter and she rode it for 2 years then gave up he just put it away. I will find out tomz if I can manage it at my age if not we'll they are always looking for observers & so I will spend my time doing that I just want to be involved in something I loved years ago, Cheers
  17. Feel like a 5 year old on Christmas Eve so excited. First ride for 39 years. Off in morning to c if I can master the bike or will it master me, Shame it's not a pre 65 classic as it would be old like me & I was addicted to Castrol R. Any tips on the first practice. Cheers.

  20. Well I never, Well done Spen Thats George alright, Great memories , Thanks. Id say you never got to that museam what a shame.
  21. Do you remember the name of the person Len & George sponsored in classic road racing ? They never stopped talking about him to me as they knew I was mad on bikes, I also worked for the AA in the early 60s I have pics somewhere of me on the BSA combo. I used to patrol the A1 between grantham & Stamford South Witham was halfway between them and any breakdowns unable to be fixed on the roadside went into there garage, I spent hours with those brothers. Cheers ,
