  1. The results are on the clubs home page: http://www.motorclub.uk.net/ I always seem to ride well on the first punch card... then i fall to pieces 17 on my first card .... then 34 on the second, personally i think they counted mine wrong.. Alan C
  2. I am very happy that i started this thread,, we have all debated it from most angles...... But the people i would like to hear from are the ones who chose to ride a twinshock on a weekly basis in modern trials, these people are the true enthusiasts who chose to go out against the odds, i have done just this for four years..including nationals like the east yorks 2 day, the cleveland, the colonial, and done well, Yes every year i built a new Fantic for myselfe and each time pushed the boundries a little further, but it was as much about reliability as anything, disc brakes require less maintanence than drums, fantic 240 frames have a tendancy of stretching with to much abuse etc etc Why should it be "them and us" I say mix it up a little. And Woody, i think we can all tell that you hate anything that doesnt fall into what you see as acceptable, and thats ok. I am now riding a modern bike again... so the Fantic is retired for the time being, i pretty much have a bike for all occasions so look out for me at any twinshock/pre 65 trials that we have in the north Blue bar trial / lakes two day / Bill Pyes 3day and the ousburn trial next month... shake my hand or smack me in the mouth. you decide Scrumpyjack : a true twinshocker
  3. Hey Blocky,, you only have to look at Neil Gaunts bike for your answer... pre 65... hhhmmm
  4. Fun class only sounds good to me,, Hey John, if both my bikes fall into the modified class... isnt that a bit unfair, my greeves is 100% pre 65 or is there a seperate modified class for pre 65 bikes, after all people in the day used to swap alsorts from bike to bike! the engine has lived in the bike for the last 30 years. I would like to do the scottish on it one day, but would it be allowed?? Scrumpy
  5. "Entry forms now available: Highland Pre-65 & Twinshock Trial 16/17 June 2007, Alvie Estate, Aviemore, Scotland...be there!" Does this mean i can ride my Modded Fantic in your trial John?? (it is 100% fantic) or would it have to be my Greeves Scottish...but it has a C15 engine :-( Scrumpy
  6. I am all for riders who are out of class, or bikes that have no class riding on a non award basis, But i can see the need for strict rules on the pre 65 bike trials,, but as you know what is cleverly hidden beneath standard trim is often very "trick"... but we are moving away from the point, you say ride on a no award basis, i say have a modified class, either way it puts an end to the bickering and back stabbing that goes on far to much,, Personally i get great pleasure from riding against modern bikes on my heavily tricked up fantic...the look on their faces as i beat them is priceless. this is a long night shift: Scrumpy
  7. I think that is a very extreme argument,, and not very realistic..! but ok we will add a no liquid cooled bikes.. Happy?? Here in the north east we allow air cooled mono's to enter some of our twinshock trials "to keep the numbers up mainly" and even riding these new machines the riders never come close to dropping as little as the good riders on old machines (all riding the same course) My point is its mainly down to the rider not the machine... so it wouldnt bother me if someone went to the trouble of graphting some twinshocks on a gasgas... i certainly wouldnt be threatened by it. Scrumpy
  8. And yes JumboStu your works Bernie jumbo is nothing short of cheating..!! that thing rides better than a lot of modern bikes...lol Scrumpy
  9. I think "modded" rules are simple, disc brake is modded a converted mono to twinshock is modded, hydraulic clutch is modded... they are the basic mods on 99% of altered bikes. And the best thing for your fantic 240 is to have a spare fantic 301 front end to slip straight in, pm me and i can sort one out for you. Scrumpy
  10. Hi all,, I want to clear something up about twinshock trials bikes,,, I ride several different twinshocks, But the one i use in modern trials took me months to build and yes it has disc brakes, hydraulic clutch and a tubeless rear wheel, but at the end of the day is a twinshock.. and is a lot heavier than a modern bike, My point is when motorbikes were first used in trials they were just modded road bikes that people were trying to make as competetive as possible, So a lot of people get a lot of enjoyment from taking an old bike to the next level, and pushing the boundries of their bikes, But those of you who ride standard machines are constantly up in arms against these people... and even not letting them enter their modded bikes in twinshock trials in the first place..!! This is very wrong and a terrible shame that these people have such closed minds,, A much nicer, simpler solution would be to include a "modified" class for such bikes.. and for once enjoy the engineering skills and time it might have taken to build. I believe the "Eboracum" club of york will be having a "modified" class in their twinshock + pre 65 2 day trial at the end of next month... and i can only say one thing: WELL DONE LADS, lets hope the rest of the country follows suit and ends this silly witch hunt... at the end of the day we all just love riding our bikes. top Fantic builder: ScrumpyJack

    Herd Of Swms

I see more SWM's than that every time i go in JumboStu's garage...!! The whole world is going yellow
  12. Try mounting a condensor under your tank where it wont get hot, it doesnt have to be behind the flywheel.. and if you have a spare one piggybacked to it if it blows you simply swap the wire over and presto... i am giving away all my little secrets i hope this helps,, but personally i would splash out on elec ignition Scrumpy

    Ty350

I think you will find the kit came with new jets new heavier flywheel, new reedblock two pistons, barrel and cylinder head.....i share the same friend as jumbostu and he even has a full yamaha parts list for the kit (great if you have a side car atached) there might even be a new exhaust downpipe.. i will have to check. Scrumpy
  14. Not powerful enough is not the way i would put it... it just doesnt deliver the power as i would like it to, example: i believe you find the grip with good throttle control, and that is what i am used to,, suddenly having a bike that i feel has to catch up to what i am doing with the throttle is playing havoc with my timing (how i shift my body weight as i turn the throttle)... and no i am not centre champion...although i have been kicking ass on a twinshock fantic for a number of years!! "if anyone wants a pic of my trick fantic just ask" and my TYZ is still a great all rounder.. its nice to sit between sections in the bigger trials and nationals. Scrumpy
  15. Yes i have started to make changes,, i spoke to Birkett and he told me to try advancing the timing plate by 3mm, this is about half as much as the scorpa racing, it was instantly better and very simple to do, i still run with the heavy flywheel but i will be trying the lighter one from my TYZ at some point. I have also got a 135 main jet that i will fit next time i have the carb off, what i will do soon is go for a practice and try the timing in other positions. Another problem i seem to have is the rear shock gets more bouncy the longer i ride it..! has anyone else had this problem?? i think i will get it rebuilt to higher tolerences,, apart from that it is a great bike and i love being able to play about with it to get it how i like it,,, some times you buy a new bike and just have to live with it as is......but i loved my TYZ and the scorpa is getting there!! Scrumpy
  16. Thanks arnoux, that will be my mision this week..! i still cant believe how tame the UK spec bike is,, does anyone really like it like that?? Alan
  17. Hi all, i have just treated myselfe to an 06 scorpa sy 250, The problem is that i need more power from it, i am used to riding a TYZ that was breathed on by Nigel Birrket and that must be 50% more powerful in every way than the scorpa, dont get me wrong if you have poor throttle control the scorpa is the bike for you because it just bogs through the section, i am thinking of swapping the barrel and piston from the TYZ, but i dont want to do this if there is an easier option "jetting, timing etc", So if anyone out there can help i would be very grateful. Alan
  18. If anyone out there is interested in this bike send me a personal message and we can talk. Alan
  19. Well i couldnt ride it so i stuck it on ebay! i'm sure it will be taking the trip back to spain shortly
  20. It has a 300 series engine disk brakes and hydraulic clutch, improved swing arm etc etc here are some more pics....i will be happy to hear your thoughts Alan http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/7130/p4210001tf8.jpg http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/9462/p4210002jm4.jpg http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/5073/p4210003mb8.jpg http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/2694/p4210004gb2.jpg http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/7857/p4210005bk9.jpg http://img274.imageshack.us/img274/4715/p4210006ti9.jpg http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/9661/p4210007iy3.jpg
  21. This reply is for you Martin Mathews There is little difference between the two(300+my bike), i ride lots of twinshocks but the best so far is stuarts 1983 Bernie Schreiber jumbo SWM, rock steps, gulleys, huge slippy climbs, the thing just eats them! we practice once a week and next year we hope to ride both Bernies 82+83 bikes in our local twinshock trials (once we fix the 82 bike) Alan ps here is a pic of my bike from last year. http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/9923/p4210006ax4.jpg
  22. I live in the north east and ride clubmanA this is a mixture of the easier expert sections and the harder clubman sections, riding a twinshock at this level helps your riding because you have to put more effort in and work the bike... like i said there is nothing like beating people who are riding the latest and greatest bike! here is a pic of last years bike... http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/9923/p4210006ax4.jpg
  23. Yes sorry about that my son sorted it out for me when i had trouble putting the pic on! I will be looking for a new home for it shorltly (the bike not my son..lol)
  24. I think that you have not fully understood the reasons for me building this bike, if you ride at intermediate level and you do well in a section, you are just another rider, but with this you stand out....for however good the bike is it is always heavier and has worse rear suspension than any modern bike, so you have to be a better rider.....this isnt about twinshock classes and twinshock trials but more about all normal club trials at intermidiate level sections....so please dont get defensive about disk brakes and hydraulic clutches competing against pre65 and standard twinshocks... this is the next level,,,,yes taking twinshocks to compete against the latest bikes!!... and i can tell you first hand that there is no feeling like beating modern bikes on a bike of this caliber.....it really makes peoples blood boil, with statements like "oh no not you on that thing again" this bike was built for a reason, and it is the third one i have built all totally differant but with one objective in mind, TO WIN Scrumpy
  25. Hi all, this is my fantic that i built specificly to compete at a harder level than just the clubman route, although i did ride it in a few twinshock / pre65 trials this year, you will do well to spot all the mods, and it is 100% fantic, i now ride a TYZ as my main bike so this one is redundant :-( I would be interested in any oppinions Alan http://img87.imageshack.us/my.php?image=24102006171yg2.jpg http://img133.imageshack.us/my.php?image=24102006172mr1.jpg http://img83.imageshack.us/my.php?image=24102006173mi4.jpg http://img133.imageshack.us/my.php?image=24102006174qc0.jpg
