  1. Yes true ,your build has inspired me.....you are doing a nice job,I won't reach your level but at least things will be as they should. Yes I was happy with how the rear muffler burnt out,I had no smoke from the centre muffler after heating @ max temp for 10mins,appears it has been cut open and gas welded back together @ some stage so thinks that why it didn't need burning out. Will attack the swingarm today, looks like I with jig it up ,cut one end and square it up,shock mounts have been removed and welded on it another place also, again the welding there is horrible,oh well the bushes are in good condition so that's a bonus.
  2. More crap stuff....top frame cracked so some monkey put a thick wall pipe sleeve over it,other pic is cracks around the upper steering head tubes. The swingarm is totally out of square and mods done are shocking....will be busy tomorrow .
  3. Yuk and double yuk ok,insurance company aren't answering my calls/email think they are swamped....a bit like my boat . I suspect my 4 stroke Honda is now a total loss, least its not the house Porsche or my bike. Remove swingarm today to sort previous cock-ups done in the past, its a real mess as is the frame.
  4. Thanks yes have flat blacked the exhaust cause that's the way the VHT ceramic paint was anyway, engine will be as you mentioned, may paint the frame another colour as black is too yesterday,I need to fix the frame in more ways than one .....horrible past owner repairs. Cheers Dean.
  5. Wondering if its matt or satin black ?,thanks in advance.
  6. Thanks for the replies, old brain has taken all onboard ,will check today, cheers.
  7. Picked up a chainsaw decomp valve yesterday,10 x 1mm thread ,plan is to gut out old 14mm long reach plug drill and tap it for the valve should work. My spares arrived from In Motion yesterday (thanks Pete) ,new Venhill clutch cable is a gem...well made item didn't know how knackered my old one was ,very close to breaking @ the clutch arm end.
  8. Welcome ,I'am new here also but the help I have received has been fantastic, great folks on here. Your bike is the same as the first trials bike I ever had,I think yours is a later model as mine had alloy mudguards, too far back for me to remember the year, you won't have a lot to do on this bike as it looks to have been well looked after, good luck with it.
  9. Bought the tool off In Motion came with no instructions but it seems straight forward enough (I think),I see conflicting info on here regarding setting ,my Spanish manual says 2.7mm BTDC is that when the points are fully open or do you set with points just open @ 1.8mm???. Bike starts ok or do I leave it??? not sure, can't have the timing wrong and kicking back as my leg is finally recovering after the last big incident . Thanks in advance.
  10. Thanks but that's the type I already have,I need the chainsaw one as it self closing when the engine fires, have been researching and the big bore 2S VMX guys are using them to good effect, appears many of these bikes have weak kickstarts,I did find one for Montesa,Bultaco Maico and others for 14mm plug thread but it was crazy money and only a modified chainsaw one.
  11. Thanks, just plan to have a headlight only, bike will never be made road legal, hot tip on the chainsaw decomp sounds like the ticket for me,I guess it would have to be modified to fit with the 14mm plug thread?? do you have any other details by any chance?,cheers. Edit.... have googled chainsaw decomp valves and appears they are a fairly small thread, appears 9mm and 10mm are common,I will most likely use an old 14mm sparkplug and make an adaptor, will visit local small engine place tomorrow, will update .
  12. That's SO true,if the bike falls over ,I'am keeping it as I have no kill switch also, think its handy to have besides, have stripped the valve cleaned it and relapped it,new cable bought today, levers a bit poo made of "muck metal" so may replace it later. Headlamp is 35w 6V hope I can find one that works in a later 12v headlight .
  13. Thanks all, makes sense ,I know 4 strokes will start with a decomp, never had a 2S with one so reason for asking. And yes charging system is 6volt as to it being AC or DC I still don't know,I guess when I next start the bike I can test, again I presume a DC system will only develop 6v constant,my Spanish manual says magneto flywheel so think that's the case anyway. Thanks again .
  14. I have changed my decompressor so it barely opens, will my 349 Cota start if I setup that way? previously it opened to far and the bike won't start as I think not enough compression?,anyone working this way As i'am going more trail than trials I would like to fit a headlight,I see a cut black/white wire off the coil wire and presume that's a 12v from the charging system which I again presume is a 12v DC dynamo ??? ,can I run a headlight off that?,if DC I won't need a rectifier correct? (thinks that's right) as most newer bikes are AC. Have found a semi period correct headlight which should do for my needs.

    Top End Carnage

OMG sorry to see that carnage.
  16. Well Porsche is sorted, more power from the 6 cyl and better idle...easy fix,not so for weather a few days on ,we had a ex-cyclone came via Australia,my boatshed was flooded and had saltwater 2m from my porch ,expected tide was 4.5m add 1.5m swell push to that and things weren't great, next doors had 500mm saltwater through their sleepout on the foreshore they lost everything. Our coastal entrance road was totally trashed so I have had to use an inland route to use on a local friends property,my boat got swapped (underwater) on my launching ramp but not to worried as many off worse than me. We had massive damage on the other side of the bay from me,my insurance company is swamped but hope to get all sorted soon.
  17. Well the way this it is going I should have made this a restoration topic because that's the way its heading...not a shiny showroom job but a nice tidy well setup bike which I'am really enjoying. I'm taking the day off the bike tomorrow to work on the Porsche, recieved a shipment of parts Friday from the states to improve my ignition problem ,which should be the solution,a pic for those interested,by the way parts for these cars are way more expensive than any Montesa part.
  18. That's clever have seen that before,IMO its a good remedy for this problem, well done.
  19. Cheers man, agree totally ,my base knowledge is from real experience remembering my budget for racing bikes and karts in those days was rather limited,I needed stuff to last or was out of the game. I guess if folks have the money they can run what they like but I will put my money on the right mix, thanks to all that have replied, cheers. Over and out ,Dean .
  20. Then I had a rethink and decided what I thought was just an expantion area in the front pipe appears to be a primary muffler which I'am sure will be full of crap like the rear muffler....don't know but I might burn it out also. The rear muffler still has rust in in but know that won't burn out so it stays, the method I used for the rear muffler is really good so hoping similar results. Put an order into InMotion but had to limit it due to brutal shipping rates and of course Kiwi $ to UK pounds is another issue.
  21. Are they the correct rear shocks with regard to length ? The rear wheel looks a long way down from the mudguard, somethings not right there I think. All good checked on that ,old shocks were infact 320mm ,swingarm has been chopped @ some stage,you are correct my bike is a like high....appears around 5mm more that factory manual,honestly not worried. Stripped old paint and rust off front pipe and painted with VHT flat black 1300 degree exhaust paint. Did a burnout on the rear muffler cause it was heavy and dropping lumps of carbon everywhere,results were great it smoked like a bugger for 20mins and then came clear...my hillbilly setup;

  23. Thanks heaps ,really thought I would stick to factory mix but putting " feelers " out for actual experience with this bike....have owned 2 YZ125's and Bultaco 175 not to mention one premix sprint ko-cart so failures left right and centre with people playing with mixture. Remember seeing early piston/ring wear on the YZ's and totally seizure on the karts @ the end of the main straight throttle off ,mine never did...right mixture and tuning. Cheers Dean.
  24. Thanks, oil I have is Spectro 2T which I was sold as a mineral oil, most of my riding will be slow trail riding as I'am old and a bit out of practice riding.
  25. Know the correct mix but need to get the least engine wear and hopefully reasonable amounts of smoke out the back lol, have picked non synthetic oil because oil hopefully has moved on since the late 70's ,really not a fan of synthetic oil so need an answer from folks that have been running the "right" mixture for a while, was thinking 1:30...comments please. As an aside it have exhaust off and not a mark on the piston, and same on the inlet side, want to keep it that way. Cheers Dean.
