    Exhaust Rubbing

If its just a bit bent (i.e. you've just dropped it on the exhaust side during an unexpected mid-section detour), a very quick and easy solution is to lay the bike down on its side, with the exhaust side up, and then pick the bike up by the rear silencer. The lug that attaches to the rear subframe usually bends just enough to stop the rear tyre rubbing. Worked on my Techno and has worked for me on the Rev-3. Don't swing on it obviously or you'll break something!!! In fact, I'm glad you've reminded me - need to do it myself. I'm probably going to get lambasted now for my non-scientific approach to fixing the problem!!!! Cheers KB.
  3. YOOOOOOOORK-SHA YOOOOOOOORK-SHA Must be something in the water...although myt plumbing must be connected to a different supply!!!! Well done Mr Dabill - truly a talent. Cheers KB.
  4. Don't suppose you know when it is do you (the Bicycle trial I mean) ? I think we might be having a run out at AMS on Saturday if possible... ...any takers? If you happen to be in the area, I'll be the one in the blue Saxo VTR... Cheers KB.
  5. Nice one Mr & Mrs L, Another chapter of the Lampkin Dynasty opens... ...but be prepared for a battle in 2023. Kinky Bootees might have something to say about that - but we'll have to wait till December to find out.... Best wishes to all the family Chris M.
  6. So, you were there then Stuart!! Think its about time I wandered over to a BDMC trial again - its been a while. Its always a pleasure to entertain different people with my unique blend of controlled aggression and astonishing balance... ...can't blame the bike this time, was just the jockey that was inept!!! Cheers KB.
  7. Well, I ride about once a month these days, so the fan won't get that much stick relatively speaking. If you've read my other blurb on the main boards you'll see if I just had it in for some tidy up jobs, and they didn't mention the fan being dicky on the job sheet, but I'll keep my eye on it none the less. Thanks. PS - Whats a continuity meter?!?!? I'm rubbish at technical stuff!! I know how the metal bits work pretty much, but the wiry plasticy electrical bits - I know nowt!!! Cheers KB.
  8. I suppose thats the case. I was just interested to know if the nice stuff was common place. I've only ever used the one place, so I have nothing to compare with. As I say, its been normal practise up to now, but a lot of the guys that used to work there when I first got the bike have moved on, and the dealer focus is now more on MX than trials, and I was wondering if we were getting overlooked in favour of the more lucrative MX business. But now that I know, I won't 'expect' the extras, and if I get them, then its a welcome bonus. Cheers KB.
  9. We might have had this before, but I'll take a chance as I'm in a rush and haven't got time to search (sorry all!) When I fire up my bike, the fan is on straight away. Is this usual? I can't remember, as I'm usually on top (although not for long, to be fair!) and don't recall ever noticing one way or the other before? Cheers KB.
  10. ...and they're excellent fun. Its just a shame I now live too far away to get up there for the evening series. Although Swain Woods is quite small, you'll be surprised at hom many good sections they manage to devise in there!! And its an excellent practise ground, available to Horsforth Members. I started riding the mid-weeks when I first started trials a few years ago, and also did the Novice & Beginner series. Wasn't long before I reached the heady heights of rubbishness that I have achieved to date!! There's a run out at Stump Cross tomorrow (19th), but its Club Championship class to if you are a genuine beginner it might be a bit hard. Worth coming along for a watch though...give you a feel for how things work. Hope to see you there - I'll be the upside down one!! Cheers KB.
  11. I recently had the bike in at the local dealer for a few tidying up jobs doing. Its the dealer that I have always used, and have bought two bikes from there, plus had all the various jobs done. In the past, whenever I've put the bike in for work doing, I've always awaited collecting it with eagerness, as it was like picking up a new bike. Above and beyond the work I had requested, she was always beautifully steam cleaned, chain lubed and greased, the carb tweaked (tickover and mixture I guess) to perfection, and a new sticker or two. This time, however, I got the bike back in more or less exactly the same state as I'd left it in. Admittedly, all the work had been done as per my request, but none of the 'niceties' had been done. There was even a note on the job sheet saying that the chain needed greasing!! Surely it would have been easier for them to actually do it than it would to write it down?!?! Am I expecting too much? I just felt a bit let down that the attention to detail of the past had gone. Yes, I got exactly what I paid for - but somehow that didn't make me feel good about the service. Any thoughts? How does your local dealer operate? Cheers KB.
  12. At HDMC, we tend to be a bit more simplified. We have two routes on at each trial, and two classes of trial. We have Novice & Beginner trials - with the easy route being for the genuine beginner, and the hard route a bit harder than the Clubman route on the 'Club Championship' trials. The Clubman (or easy) route at the Club Championship trials is for the average Joe like me, and the hard route is tough - sort of Centre Championship standard I guess. The likes of James Dabill have honed their skills on the 'Hard' route... The easy route is always white & yellow, and the hard route always blue & red. Dead simple. Suits me, as I'm slighty colour blind, and if you start chucking greens and reds all mixed in together I'd have a nightmare!! I occasionally miss red flags when I do N&B Hard Route as it is... ....and I'm sticking to it!!! Cheers KB.
  13. HDMC pay a tenner to the observers at weekend trials. And the entry fee is.....a tenner. So I usually end up owing the missus a tenner....sorry, I mean ANOTHER tenner!! Cheers KB.
  14. And if its the Chris I'm thinking of he's getting better every time I see him ride!!! Putting us old stagers to shame! A future National champion perhaps...? As for me, I rattle round the clubman route in normal club / Centre trials (if they have them), and the Hard route at Novice/Beginner trials... ...all badly!! Cheers KB.
  15. As far as I know, they're only building on half of it - or at least they were the last time I went that way. I think if you're coming from the Bay Horse end, the bit to the left hand side of the road MIGHT still be available. If you go over the bridge and up the other side, you'll eventually come to a house on the left which is a kind of yellowy peachy sort of colur. If you do a left there and go down the road a bit you can park up on the left and get in from there as well. I've seen a few vans and trailers down there.
  16. Fair point - my own fault I guess. I've not devoted the time I should to keeping the bike in trim...a little bit of love every now and then would have saved me all this hassle. Well, its certainly served as a kick up the proverbials...I'm respraying the scuffed and scratched levers, planning to repack the exhaust, new pads front and rear, fork seals to be replaced, new wheel bearings front and rear....she'll be like new when I've finished. Moral of the story - it was the bikes fault - not mine!!!!
  17. >> Whatever happened to natural sections with big climbs, cambers, roots, etc. I guess another problem is that TV tends to 'flatten out' severity of slopes and sizes of obstacles. I know when I've been to British Champ rounds and taken video, then watched it back at home it looks far easier than it did to the naked eye. And when I've taken the camera out to film me and my mates riding, when we play it back it looks like we're riding up kerbs and over lollipop sticks instead of the MASSIVE 3 foot steps and HUGE 18 inch logs that we normally manage. So, without those spectacular hops and steps, the TV viewing for the non-trials educated audience would be somewhat dull. Even the indoor TV coverage doesn't do justice...
  18. Now then BRev3, I'm now based in Wakeypulco, but have been a member of Horsforth for about 4 years now. In all honesty, other than the above-mentioned places (Addingham, plus the HDMC practise ground at Swain Woods), you're struggling for legal places to go. There is a bit of ground at East Ardsley you might want to try. It tends to be more 'crossers playground really, but its worth a go if you need some flat, open space. To get to it, take Jnc 41 off the M1 - and head west towards Tingley / Morley. After about half a mile, there's a pub on the right called the Bay Horse, turn rigth at the side of it and follow the road. It winds downhill, and eventually you come to a bridge which crosses the old railway lines. This area is used a lot by off-road bikes. You can get parked up somewhere here, and go and play. Now, I don't know if this is 'legal' or not - but I would imagine if you're a parent with a wee one on a little bike, the worst that will happen is you might get asked to leave. I doubt the rozzers will be clamping down too hard on you if you're seen to be responsible. If you're registered with the ACU, take you're license with you to show you're not a hooligan. The only other place I can think of is to head over to Cowm Quarry at Rochdale. There are big, wide open flat bits for the next World Champ to practise his skills on, and its all legal and above board, unless its changed recently. I think its
  19. And so it went... ...found out about change of venue 10 mins before departure. Bundled myself and Mrs Boots into the car and made off. Got stuck at the temporary lights in Harrogate. Eventually got through the 'beautiful, historic town' (read - place where all the old folk go when the sun shines...cluttering up the roads with their 25 year old Austin Metros which are still as shiny as new cos they only come out on Bank holidays), legged it up to the venue and arrived ten minutes late. Mrs Boots was attending to be an observer, but due to late arrivale, all sections have observers, and thus she is unemployed and spectating all day...when she could have stayed in bed. Got changed, zipped down to sign on. On sliding to a halt, bike packed in and wouldn't start again. Managed to get it going after much flapping of the left leg (Beta - left hooker!). So I'm knackered before I start. Signed on and zoomed to section 1. At the back of a huge queue - but eventually battled through 1 and 2 OK. Halfway through 3, bike packs up again. Suspect dodgy plug (well, it IS 3 years old, so I shouldn't be too surprised) - back to car for spanners, back to bike. Plug out and clean, back in. Bike starts, run for a few seconds and conks again. Fortunately, a very kind young fella went back to his car and got me a new plug...yes, I know - should have had my own...I forgot OK! Fitted new plug, and all was well apart from the fact I was at least a lap, and in some cases 2, behind the pack. Rode most sections without even a cursory glance, thus picking up marks galore. Fork seals have been threatiening to give up the ghost, and they chose this particular time to begin spewing oil at an alarming rate. Rest of the trial went OK apart from the rushed and frustrated riding style until I found the ONLY wet bit of ground on an otherwise bone dry venue -and by wet I mean crankcase deep bog...hit it at about 30mph en route between sections, decorating myself and the bike in brownness... ...got my results in the post this morning, and I was languishing in the relegation zone...I WISH I'D STAYED IN BED. Anyone else have days like this, or is it just me?
  20. I've got a Rev 3 (01) and my mate has an '02, and at the same trial, both of our bikes packed up and wouldn't start. Both had a weak spark. Turned out to be the CDI unit. Cost about
  21. Thats a pretty fair summary I'd say. If you're after streams and tree roots and bankings and that sort of thing, then its not the place for it, but if you like rocks and steps and a bit of a hill-climb, then its perfect. In terms of size, its huge. Plenty of space. You could spend maybe three or four days and ride new sections every day. Could be the best
  22. If you're still looking for the place, the single track raod that runs past the double gate is called Light Bank Lane I think. If you come out of Ilkley, you get to a nice wide straight bit of road, and Addingham Moorside is signposted left. Follw this - its a windy country road. You'll pass through a little hamlet of a few houses. Eventualy you come to a crossroads - go straight on. About half a mile or so, take the next left into Light Bank Lane. Follow this for about a mile or so - the gate is on the left. If you get to the bit where the road turns sharp right down a hill with a concrete road bearing sort of lefty, you've gone too far.
  23. Yep - its still available, I was up there myself a couple of weeks back. Farmer wandered down and collected
  24. Ooh crikey. Any ideas on provisional dates Andy? Just loosely? 1st half or second half of the year? I've got my holidays to plan, so any inclination would be much appreciated. Cheers KB.
  25. Now then Groovers, How are we all keeping? Its been a while since I last felt the urge, must be something to do with my age!! I'm not sure if this is entirely the right place, but it seems fairly logical so.... ...Anyways, its fast approaching that time of year again - you know, where we all work ourselves into a frenzy over the upcoming TC Trial. With only three months to go till the Spring Bank Holidays, I was wondering if we had any plans to run another fabulous TC Trial (courtesy of BDMC) again this year?? Not seen any noises about it on here - but then again I may have just missed it.... Cheers KB.
